13:17 The Thing

The thing about Season 13, Episode 17, The Thing, is that there are a lot of things to talk about. That sentence is infuriating to AI grammar bots and middle-school English teachers. We wade through so many tentacles to find out what happens in the Rhode Island Men of Letters Chapter-house. Lore talks about the first UFO cult, the Seekers, led by Dorothy Matin.

Speaker A:

On this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.

Speaker B:

Less tentacles, more occult cocktail parties.

Speaker B:

Let's do this.

Speaker B:

Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.

Speaker B:

I'm Diana.

Speaker A:

I'm Liz.

Speaker B:

And we're going to talk about season 13, episode 17, the Thing.

Speaker A:

The thing, which I'm assuming is named after the thing.

Speaker B:

Like the, like the universal thing.

Speaker A:

Like the universal of the thing.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

As opposed to like a thing or like the thing that was the car.

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, that thing, too.

Speaker B:

That's a thing too.

Speaker A:

That's a thing too.

Speaker A:

And then there's the thing, the Addams Family thing.

Speaker A:

And there's many things.

Speaker A:

But I think this was, you know, there's so many things.

Speaker B:

Oh, man.

Speaker B:

So what have you been up to?

Speaker A:

Well, this weekend was the annual Texas Paranormal Fest, and that's right, it was hosted by curious twins.

Speaker A:

And it was good.

Speaker A:

It was still warm and, you know, it's September and I forgot to bring a fan.

Speaker A:

And I was like, some.

Speaker A:

One of these vendors has got to be selling a fan.

Speaker A:

So, like, right around, I finally was like, fan.

Speaker A:

And I bought this cheap ass one for $5, which of course broke by, like, the second speaker.

Speaker A:

But I still just kept.

Speaker A:

They gave me something to.

Speaker A:

With, which is kind of good.

Speaker A:

So I had something to deal with my hands.

Speaker A:

And the speakers were, of course, interesting, as they always are, I would say.

Speaker A:

So the top ones were why you shouldn't be afraid to use Ouija boards.

Speaker A:

I thought that was a good one.

Speaker A:

And what's really funny was like, before the talk, Alexis was like, okay, so how many people here are afraid of them?

Speaker A:

Afraid to use it?

Speaker A:

And I would say, like, 10 people, like, raise their hands.

Speaker A:

We just, like, not afraid.

Speaker A:

They just, like, would not use them.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

And then afterwards, like, only.

Speaker A:

He only changed one person's mind.

Speaker A:

I'm like, you guys are a bunch of pussies.

Speaker B:

That's.

Speaker A:

That is really what I think.

Speaker A:

What I'm like, what are.

Speaker A:

But there's.

Speaker A:

There is some things I kind of disagreed with in his messaging about.

Speaker A:

I don't know, it's some discongity about what spirits come to the spirit board.

Speaker A:

And so one person who was talking about, like, spirits being all, like, one.

Speaker A:

There was one speaker who was talking about the spirits that are around you like, that are here.

Speaker A:

They're just the ones that are here and you can't, like, call them because spirits are busy.

Speaker A:

But according to, like, the Ouija board, he was like, you.

Speaker A:

You want.

Speaker A:

You need to summon the person you want to Talk to.

Speaker A:

So he's saying that you could summon them.

Speaker A:

I'm like, these things.

Speaker A:

Those don't.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So tell me.

Speaker A:

Which.

Speaker A:

Which way is it?

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker A:

And of course, you know, then there's you people who have the Q and A's during people's lectures, which are always fun.

Speaker A:

And there was a lecture by the.

Speaker A:

One of the people who helped install the altar for Santa Muerte in Kyle, Texas.

Speaker A:

And realize it's a really cool altar.

Speaker A:

I want to go see it.

Speaker A:

But sometimes people ask just, like, really?

Speaker A:

It's Q A.

Speaker A:

And people are just going to ask questions that are going to irritate me.

Speaker A:

And someone's like, is it true that people use Santa Muerte to, like, cast, like, bad things on other people?

Speaker A:

And, like, can she be dark?

Speaker A:

What do you.

Speaker A:

And it was like, look at her.

Speaker A:

Can you look and just use your eyes?

Speaker B:

Like, what do you think?

Speaker B:

What do you think?

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

And like, maybe.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

It's just.

Speaker A:

There's so much that, like, I.

Speaker A:

Maybe to live in a dark mood, it was like, why are you all so afraid of the darkness?

Speaker A:

Like, everybody there, you know, that was like, the things with, like, the Ouija board and with, like, calling spirits.

Speaker A:

Like, how do you make sure that you don't call the bad spirits in?

Speaker A:

I'm like, what is everybody so afraid of out there?

Speaker A:

But I guess I'm also not actually calling spirits into anything.

Speaker A:

So, anyway, yeah.

Speaker A:

I mean, I want to say no judgment on your beliefs, but sometimes I just want to be like, the demon's not coming through the Ouija board guy.

Speaker A:

Like, that's.

Speaker A:

Zozo was made up by the Internet and is not real unless it's, like, a tulpa.

Speaker A:

Zozo.

Speaker A:

Zozo, the demon who comes through Ouija boards, which is the thing invented on the Internet, could be a tulpa because.

Speaker A:

Or the other thing.

Speaker A:

There's another word for it when it's something that comes through the Internet, too.

Speaker A:

I can't.

Speaker A:

But, like, Slender man, you know, where enough people talked about it to make it a thing because we were just talking about it.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

I could see that happening, but speaking it into existence.

Speaker B:

Because belief.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but a spirit board's just a spirit board.

Speaker A:

And it's probably just you pushing the thing around.

Speaker A:

Anyways, sorry.

Speaker A:

But it was still a good day.

Speaker A:

As always.

Speaker A:

The best people watching.

Speaker A:

And the twins have gotten insane.

Speaker A:

There's an insane amount of vendors out there this year, and.

Speaker A:

And there's really starting to clean up the property, which is kind of nice, but also kind of sad because sometimes you're like, oh, man, this place used to be so shitty over here by, like, where the ducks were.

Speaker A:

Like, I'm pretty sure it was toxic and people were diseases.

Speaker A:

Like, this is.

Speaker A:

You know, it's one of the things that does make it adorable is they can't sell liquor there.

Speaker A:

So they just, like, give liquor away.

Speaker A:

Like, they have a punch that they don't like.

Speaker A:

It's got, like, tequila and rum in it.

Speaker A:

Like, those things shouldn't mix.

Speaker A:

You shouldn't have tequila and rum.

Speaker A:

You should have tequila or rum.

Speaker B:

Or rum.

Speaker A:

And my friend was convinced that there was no alcohol in it.

Speaker A:

And I was so.

Speaker A:

And I was like, I.

Speaker B:

Danger, danger.

Speaker A:

And I was like, honey, there is definitely booze in this.

Speaker A:

So drink it.

Speaker A:

Like, there is booze in it.

Speaker A:

Not like it's juice, because it's not juice.

Speaker A:

There's.

Speaker A:

And you're driving one.

Speaker A:

Like, because her wife was, you know, drinking.

Speaker A:

Because the other thing, they had beer, too.

Speaker A:

So you could either get the mystery punch, or you could get, like, bud light or I think they have a. I don't know.

Speaker A:

But it was just like.

Speaker A:

It was 100 degrees.

Speaker A:

I'm like, I'm not drinking.

Speaker A:

It's like.

Speaker B:

It was like, I'm drinking.

Speaker A:

It was too hot to be day drinking.

Speaker A:

It just was like.

Speaker A:

It was just.

Speaker A:

I was.

Speaker A:

And I didn't.

Speaker A:

I was sweating too much.

Speaker A:

I don't like drinking when I'm sweating.

Speaker A:

But anyway, so it was still.

Speaker A:

It was still a good time.

Speaker A:

And I'm glad the festival is very.

Speaker A:

As successful as it is.

Speaker A:

I didn't go into, like, every time.

Speaker A:

Each admission came with a free seance.

Speaker A:

Seance parlor admission.

Speaker A:

And that was basically takes you inside the house and you'll see all the artifacts that are in there now.

Speaker A:

And apparently there's the same artifacts that are there every year.

Speaker A:

I'm like, they're not going to get more haunted, but.

Speaker A:

And maybe, like, new things.

Speaker A:

I was like, I feel like they would get less haunted.

Speaker B:

But.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I did text a text to Diana.

Speaker A:

One of the.

Speaker A:

The better.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

I'm learning to use that adjective.

Speaker A:

So one of the speakers was talking about bigfoot.

Speaker A:

He was Bexar county bigfoot guy or San Antonio bigfoot guy.

Speaker A:

And he was talking about his squatching through the woods and how he was fighting all these, like, wooden structures that were built by.

Speaker A:

By the sasquatch or our neighbor.

Speaker A:

Our.

Speaker A:

Ours.

Speaker A:

Ours would be bigfoot.

Speaker A:

I think I forget what they would nomenclature.

Speaker A:

You get in Texas.

Speaker A:

If it's Bigfoot or Sasquatch, I think we're just a Bigfoot.

Speaker A:

Yeah, but Sasquatch is just more fun to say, is a fun word because you can get.

Speaker A:

They can go squatching.

Speaker A:

You can't.

Speaker A:

You can't go.

Speaker A:

Foot going is not the same thing.

Speaker A:

But he was talking about how you people should do their.

Speaker A:

Their due diligence and do their research.

Speaker A:

He was like, go listen to podcasts.

Speaker A:

I was like, yes, that is the best research you can do, man.

Speaker A:

Go listen to podcasts.

Speaker B:

Yes, that's it.

Speaker B:

Oh, man.

Speaker A:

Yeah, so that was.

Speaker A:

That was my weekend.

Speaker A:

And what about you?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So my weekend was actually fairly quiet.

Speaker B:

Before my weekend, I was in good old Nashville for a few days for work, but got to see some.

Speaker B:

Gotta go to an event at the Ryman, which is beautiful, and listen to a couple of songs and then catch some more music and, you know, got to talk to people that are like, I know, but I never get to, like, talk to.

Speaker B:

So it's nice to, like, have some time to catch up with some friends.

Speaker B:

Friends and I did go to the.

Speaker B:

It's a short run of a Dolly Parton exhibit at the Country Music hall of Fame and Museum, and it was as lovely as you would want it to be.

Speaker B:

And, yeah, that was my.

Speaker B:

It was a.

Speaker B:

A very whirlwind, fast, but exhausting few days.

Speaker B:

So I got to feel kind of cool for a couple times.

Speaker B:

And I'll take that any day when you're out and about and you're like, oh, I'm not supposed to be here.

Speaker B:

I feel very cool right now.

Speaker B:

Get me out of here.

Speaker B:

Yeah, but.

Speaker B:

Yeah, so.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that's it.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

Oh, I think we have one little bit of supernatural news this week.

Speaker A:

Oh, I have.

Speaker A:

I have no idea.

Speaker B:

They just announced that Jensen Ackles, like, just came out, is being cast in a new crime drama based on a book.

Speaker B:

And it is, if I can, he is going to be.

Speaker B:

It's an MGM crime thriller series called Rules of Prey, based on a book series I just came out today.

Speaker A:

Was he gonna be a cop?

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

I didn't get that.

Speaker A:

Oh, I'll see.

Speaker B:

But, yeah, so that's that.

Speaker B:

That's the only news I saw this week.

Speaker A:

Okay, well, more Jensen stuff.

Speaker A:

That's great.

Speaker A:

But, yeah, cool.

Speaker A:

All right, well, let's talk about the Thing.

Speaker A:

And so the thing was season 13, episode 17.

Speaker A:

So we're getting towards the end of season 13.

Speaker A:

,:

Speaker A:

And this season we saw him do season five's Advanced Scientology and was written by Davey Perez.

Speaker A:

And this season he did episode six, tombstone, and episode 11, break down.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And so in our recap, because we do get a recap this week, there is old school Men of Letters lore.

Speaker A:

The Aquarian star reminding us that Sam and Dean are Men of Letters legacies.

Speaker A:

There is Catch.

Speaker A:

Who is Catch working for?

Speaker A:

Oh yes, it's Asmodeus.

Speaker A:

And who is in the cell but the archangel Gabriel, who looks like.

Speaker B:

Correct.

Speaker B:

And his mouth is shut.

Speaker A:

His mouth is sewn shut.

Speaker A:

And it's very disturbing.

Speaker A:

to Portsmouth, Rhode Island,:

Speaker B:

Robes who are chanting, yeah, that's always a bad sign.

Speaker B:

And they chain her to this like stone altar while she is struggling.

Speaker B:

And they have a chalice and they've got this glowing liquid and.

Speaker B:

And then we get this purple rift in the ceiling and a tentacle comes.

Speaker A:

Through and it's just straight up tentacle porn.

Speaker A:

This is the beginning of this.

Speaker A:

And it is as bad as any anime that I had to like shut off when my mom came into the room.

Speaker A:

Version of tentacle porn.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker A:

It's very graphic.

Speaker A:

Ew, it is.

Speaker A:

And we go from there to the bunker.

Speaker B:

Yeah, we're.

Speaker B:

Sam has fallen asleep researching and Dean is putting sticky notes on his back.

Speaker A:

And they say, dumb, dumb, kick me ass face.

Speaker A:

I'm stupid.

Speaker A:

Ask me so very, very grown up things.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And Sam wakes up and he has found something about the seal of Solomon.

Speaker B:

It may be something about a jewel of the cosmos and being could be.

Speaker B:

Which could mean it's part of a meteorite of some kind.

Speaker B:

So they have now secured the blood of a holy man and fruit from the tree of Life.

Speaker B:

So all they need is a seal of Solomon and then an archangel's grace.

Speaker B:

So they are going to go research in the archives again.

Speaker B:

And so we get a big research scene in the archives and Dean says I love books.

Speaker A:

And I agree, Dean, that and every librarians all over masturbate to that sound bite over and over again.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

So yeah, in our montage scene, Dean fakes finding something and he snores.

Speaker A:

Then Sam finally goes past a mirror and he finally sees the sticky notes.

Speaker B:

about something in:

Speaker B:

And they.

Speaker B:

It might this is the file Earthly, not unearthly.

Speaker B:

Sorry, I feel like that in the.

Speaker A:

Show we need to make a difference between unearthly and unholy.

Speaker B:

Correct?

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

I'm sorry, I miss.

Speaker B:

Mis.

Speaker B:

Misread my writing.

Speaker B:

And they believe that there is a Men of Letters outpost in Rhode island where this file and.

Speaker B:

Or crystal might be.

Speaker A:

Yes, it is in capitulum 7.

Speaker A:

And capitulum means chapter house.

Speaker A:

And chapter houses were basically little annexes, little, little, little, little smaller Men of Letters which are just around.

Speaker A:

And Dean says jinkies, which irritates Sam.

Speaker A:

And Sam just wants to know how long he's going to be saying that.

Speaker B:

So they drive all the way to Rhode island and they pull up to this old brick building with that's got rotting cars and no doors on the outside of it and find a sewer lid with a Men of Letters logo or eye on it.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker A:

Well, is it.

Speaker A:

It's.

Speaker B:

It is.

Speaker A:

It was the Aquarian star, which is a metal logos letter.

Speaker A:

They now they've added this eye on it which is new that.

Speaker A:

That wasn't on the other one.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

But it looks familiar and so the key works for it and.

Speaker A:

But to get down there though they have to drop down into the space which seems stupid.

Speaker A:

Like, like was at one point was there a ladder or was this like the side entrance?

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

But it's obviously bigger than either Ackles or Padale.

Speaker A:

That's really tall.

Speaker A:

It's a really tall space and.

Speaker A:

But they go down there and of course there is electricity that works.

Speaker B:

But the place is kind of messy.

Speaker B:

There's like books on the floor and stuff.

Speaker B:

It's kind of like unkempt looking, but yeah.

Speaker B:

And all the rooms have the amount of letters the.

Speaker B:

As you said, the symbol that I will say wrong again.

Speaker B:

So the symbol with the eye on it.

Speaker B:

So it's different.

Speaker B:

And then they find a room full of books and files very quickly which is very convenient for them.

Speaker B:

And they are looking for the info on King Solomon.

Speaker B:

And while Sam is looking for that, Dean notices a bunch of old photos on this desk.

Speaker B:

But there's a pile of them and there's one that's separate and one is a woman.

Speaker B:

It's the woman we saw in the intro.

Speaker B:

And he, you know, like makes a sexy face at the picture because of course he is.

Speaker B:

But it says on the back that has her like bio info on it.

Speaker B:

Yeah, her name, height, weight, date of birth.

Speaker B:

So she was born in:

Speaker A:

So convenient.

Speaker B:

So convenient.

Speaker B:

And then they start hearing a woman crying out for help.

Speaker B:

So they have to run down the hall, and they find this locked door.

Speaker B:

but looks the same she did in:

Speaker B:

And Dean recognizes her from the photo.

Speaker A:

Ooh,.

Speaker B:

Weird.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker B:

And she.

Speaker A:

ow, I'm Sandy porter, born in:

Speaker A:

Like, okay, that's weird.

Speaker A:

So we go from there to Asmodeus's lair.

Speaker A:

And Catches walking down the hall.

Speaker A:

And we get to meet another demon we like, named Wallace.

Speaker A:

And Wallace refuses his entry, saying, asmodeus is busy.

Speaker A:

Catch ask him why he called him then.

Speaker A:

And Wallace is like, I just work here, man.

Speaker A:

You know?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And you can't go in.

Speaker A:

He's busy.

Speaker A:

So Catch asks him for something to read.

Speaker A:

And we go back to Rhode island where Sandy has received a flannel.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

explaining to her that it is:

Speaker B:

And he said, this is a car and this is a cell phone, so let's go get you loaded up in the car and drive somewhere.

Speaker B:

So they do.

Speaker B:

In the meantime, Catch is reading a children's book.

Speaker B:

And our demon guards are distracted by cat videos.

Speaker B:

So he's going to slip past them and he walks in for good.

Speaker B:

Old.

Speaker A:

You hear one of them say, I love cats.

Speaker B:

You hear Asmodeus extracting Gabriel's Grace and injecting it into himself.

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

And she.

Speaker A:

It's so gross.

Speaker A:

He's shooting it up and.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then Wallace comes in and he's like, I tried to stop him.

Speaker A:

And Asmdis like, sure you did.

Speaker B:

And Catch is just like, hey, remember, I'm like a freelance contract here.

Speaker B:

I'm not your help.

Speaker B:

And Asmodeus flashes his yellow eyes at him and tells him that he needs to wait and sends him out.

Speaker B:

So he goes and sits back down outside.

Speaker B:

But Sam, Dean, now have Sandy at Crispy's Diner.

Speaker B:

And we have a cute scene where Buck is flirting with Amy at the.

Speaker B:

At the register, and Joanne is making jokes to Marco the cook about it.

Speaker B:

All right, there's our.

Speaker B:

There's our scene set.

Speaker B:

So Sam and Dean and Sandy go in, and she is impressed with everything being so electric and wants to play with the jukebox and puts on.

Speaker B:

Better Luck Next Time Little Girl by Jay Ramsey.

Speaker B:

And they order clam cakes and stuffies and some other Stuff.

Speaker A:

But yeah, apparently Stuffies is like a Rhode island thing.

Speaker A:

I've never heard of them.

Speaker A:

I've never heard of them either.

Speaker A:

But it's like the clam things with stuff on them.

Speaker B:

Oh, okay.

Speaker A:

Which is weird because it sounds like it should be a potato based or something like inside a sandwich, but it's not.

Speaker A:

It's a clam thing.

Speaker B:

Weird.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Weird Rhode Islanders.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So Marco, our cook, though, sees Sandy and he is kind of concerned and calls this woman and is like, hey, we have a problem.

Speaker B:

And yeah, so we're like, oh, this is not.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And you can see on his arm that he's got the Chapter House symbol tattooed on him.

Speaker A:

And the woman that he's calling also has that.

Speaker A:

And she is standing in front of the empty altar room.

Speaker A:

So we know that they're connected to this somehow.

Speaker A:

And Sandy, though, wants to know how she's still alive and how are they so calm.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And yeah, basically they're like.

Speaker B:

She explains that some dude basically told her that he was in this, like some secret club and she thought it was a speakeasy and that's how they convinced her to go there.

Speaker B:

Anyways, that's who chained her up.

Speaker B:

And Ian's like, no, it's fine.

Speaker B:

We do weird stuff all the time.

Speaker B:

And we'll protect you.

Speaker B:

That's just how it works.

Speaker B:

So we get a flashback to the intro and we see the rip in the air, the rift, and we see the tentacles around her.

Speaker B:

And apparently it's like she.

Speaker B:

They.

Speaker B:

You.

Speaker B:

She's claiming that they used her to feed the monster.

Speaker B:

Then she's like, I need to go to the bathroom.

Speaker B:

And so she runs off and leaves salmon at the table.

Speaker B:

And then we see Marco pulls out a little bottle of a little dropper and is putting something on all of their food.

Speaker B:

And he also has this really crazy knife, which is just weird thing to carry around in the kitchen.

Speaker A:

It is.

Speaker A:

It's a very large curved knife and does not look like something that you would use for fish.

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

So we go from there to Asmodeus's lair.

Speaker A:

And Asmodeus has finally decided he has time to see Catch.

Speaker A:

And he knows about the Winchesters gathering pieces for a big spell.

Speaker A:

And Catch says, yeah, I knew their pet angel was just in the Holy Land.

Speaker A:

And this pisses Asmodeus off because he knew and he didn't tell him.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

And as a day is tells him that the last prophet was trying to open a portal to an even more ethically fucked up world.

Speaker A:

And to do that they needed some ingredients and they were going to try and save stop them.

Speaker A:

So he starts giving the recipe from the demon tablet.

Speaker A:

And he's like some blood and a few other things.

Speaker A:

Like just the way he said some blood was just like some blood.

Speaker A:

And then you also need a whole mess of Archangel Grace.

Speaker A:

And as soon as he says that, Gabriel starts shaking in his cage.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he doesn't like that.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And we've got, you know, he.

Speaker B:

We get also get.

Speaker B:

Asmodeus refers to Gabriel as a.

Speaker B:

His juice box.

Speaker B:

And I don't like it.

Speaker B:

But basically Asmodeus wants to reset his relationship with Catch.

Speaker B:

And he says, I own you.

Speaker B:

Get in line, boy.

Speaker B:

And Catch is like, nah, I'm out.

Speaker B:

I'm done.

Speaker B:

This is fine.

Speaker B:

But Asmodeus is not going to accept that.

Speaker B:

And he just basically knocks the shit out of Catch until Catch is bleeding on the floor.

Speaker A:

Yeah, he's air choking him.

Speaker A:

He's beating him.

Speaker A:

He's kicking him and just doesn't want him to think about sassing him ever again.

Speaker A:

And then he's suplex flexes him like he does like straight up wwe, like pieces him up in the air and just chomps his ass on the ground.

Speaker A:

And that makes his ugly white suit be covered in blood.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I mean, he's all.

Speaker B:

He's all hyped up on Gabriel's grace and that's why he can probably do this, I guess.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Is it really strong?

Speaker B:

He is.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Is it like angel grace rage?

Speaker B:

Like,.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

Well, at the diner, Sam and Dean are talking how Sandy passed their normal tests of holy water and silver.

Speaker B:

And they're just very confused why the Men of Letters would have kidnapped her and are talking about this rift and the monster.

Speaker B:

But also all the Men of letters died 60 years ago.

Speaker B:

So what the do we do with this chick?

Speaker B:

And the food arrives and at.

Speaker B:

In the meantime, Buck is ready to leave and he notices there's some weird dudes in hoods standing outside of the diner now.

Speaker B:

And Sam has already dug into his food at this point and is immediately rendered incapacitated.

Speaker A:

But yeah, then Sandy comes out and the Rogues come in and they just start attacking and cook.

Speaker A:

Marco joins in the fight and Dean fights and he breaks out everything in the diner.

Speaker B:

He breaks a lot of things and Sam kind of recovers, but Marco takes him outside and.

Speaker B:

And even Sandy gets in the fight and stabs one of the hooded guys.

Speaker B:

But so it kind of winds down.

Speaker B:

Sam's been stolen.

Speaker B:

And then it's just the diner staff and Dean and Sandy inside.

Speaker B:

And Amy and Buck and Joanne are like, so we need to call the police.

Speaker B:

But everybody's phones are dead.

Speaker B:

And then they realize that one of the hooded dudes there is the police.

Speaker B:

So that.

Speaker B:

That's not going to do a lot of good.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And Dean's making Molotov cocktails.

Speaker A:

Sandy wants to know what Dean is doing and he says he's going to get Sammy back.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So outside Sam asks the Marco and the other hooded person who is of his is Ophelia, the woman that he called earlier.

Speaker B:

And they're like, we want what you stole.

Speaker B:

You stole our monster.

Speaker B:

And they're like.

Speaker B:

And then they correct themselves.

Speaker B:

Less monster, more God.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, but we're also Men of Letters.

Speaker B:

What are you talking about?

Speaker B:

So they explained that their family also was Men of Letters kinda.

Speaker B:

And their great grandfather went psycho Jim James style after he came back from World War I. Jim Jones.

Speaker A:

I said the wrong name.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

It was like nobody to correct you.

Speaker A:

But that one.

Speaker B:

That's worth correction.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

World after world.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Not the.

Speaker B:

Not the current musician about the cult leader.

Speaker B:

To be clear, just to be clear, just to be clear.

Speaker B:

And yeah, but he wanted to fix all the blood and violence in the world.

Speaker B:

So he was going to summon forth a God from another world to cleanse it.

Speaker B:

That never.

Speaker A:

That never seems to go.

Speaker A:

Well, it doesn't.

Speaker A:

And Ophelia quotes Diego, upon us shall we call forth new gods.

Speaker A:

Yokoth and her make lithor like which such Lovecraftian names.

Speaker A:

And they will cleanse this world of hate and bring a new paradise.

Speaker A:

Marco says they summoned Yoko, but that didn't exactly bring paradise.

Speaker A:

And we're going to talk about some other people who thought things were going to be summoned.

Speaker B:

And we're going.

Speaker A:

oing forward in time from the:

Speaker A:

So we're going to the:

Speaker A:

Although I'm going to hesitate to use the word cult to describe this group.

Speaker A:

But most people call them the first UFO cult.

Speaker A:

So we need to know about Dorothy Martin, who began automatic writing about a year before she met the authors of the book that would make her infamous When Prophecy Fails, which is also the main source for this.

Speaker A:

It is a problematic book and we'll.

Speaker A:

We'll find out why.

Speaker A:

Before that she was interested in theosophy and the occult gurus of the time, she also met with a Dianetic group and went through a clearing with an auditor who later moved in with Dorothy.

Speaker A:

Dorothy said of the group, I prefer to call it Scientology, which is the art and science of taking someone back as far in his life as he can go.

Speaker A:

My friends have helped me take myself back to the period of my birth.

Speaker A:

In fact, even before my birth, I can remember the day I was conceived.

Speaker A:

Gross.

Speaker B:

I don't want to.

Speaker A:

I don't want to know that that's gross anyhow.

Speaker A:

But to say Dorothy was one of the early members of.

Speaker A:

Who was interested in Scientology, which I always find fascinating, like the.

Speaker A:

The first.

Speaker A:

First online for.

Speaker A:

For some, L. Ron Hubbard.

Speaker A:

So because of her past interest in the metaphysical, receiving messages from outside of herself wasn't alarming to Dorothy.

Speaker A:

Without knowing why, I picked up a pencil and a pad that were lying on the table near my bed.

Speaker A:

My hand began to write in another handwriting.

Speaker A:

I looked at the handwriting and it was strangely familiar, but I knew it was not my own.

Speaker A:

I realized that somebody else was using my hand, and I said, will you identify yourself?

Speaker A:

And they did.

Speaker A:

I was much surprised to find that he was my father who had passed away.

Speaker A:

So, thankfully, it wasn't her alive father.

Speaker A:

It was her dead father who was coming through.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And the message itself was rather mundane.

Speaker A:

It was mainly her father telling her mother how to plant flowers the coming spring.

Speaker A:

Just man slaining for beyond the grave.

Speaker A:

The message came with indecipherable words and weird structure, which Dorothy blamed on her own lack of knowledge receiving messages from the beyond.

Speaker A:

When she gave the message to her mother, her mother reprimanded her and ordered her to stop such nonsense, or at least to stop inflicting it on her living parent.

Speaker A:

That discouragement didn't stop her, and she worked to develop her new ability, soon channeling beings other than her father.

Speaker A:

She received messages from the elder brother, who told her her father needed instruction to advance to higher spiritual levels.

Speaker A:

But since he was a terrible student, the elder brother would focus on developing Dorothy's spiritual awareness.

Speaker A:

Dorothy came to call those who guided her the guardians and began receiving messages from Sananda, a being alive during Jesus's time, and perhaps Jesus himself.

Speaker A:

Dorothy began sharing her writing and messages.

Speaker A:

A friend introduced her to an informal circle of housewives who met in various high veil homes to discuss Dianetics, Scientology metaphysics, and occult topics over cocktails and assuming Tupperware.

Speaker A:

I want to be at these:

Speaker A:

That sounds amazing.

Speaker A:

So she goes, tupperware, cocktails, Tupperwares in the occult?

Speaker A:

Yes, please.

Speaker A:

So then she started sharing the messages with them.

Speaker A:

She attended talks by a lecturer on flying saucers.

Speaker A:

And then she started getting interested in flying saucers.

Speaker A:

She's certain messages with this guy who impressed shared them with Dr. Charles Laugh Head, a frequent attendee of the Detroit Flying saucer club.

Speaker A:

Now Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head was a physician.

Speaker B:

That sounds like a fun club.

Speaker A:

It does sound like the Detroit Flying Saucer Club.

Speaker B:

It would be a good bar anyways.

Speaker B:

It would be get with it.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head was a physician who lived in East Lansing.

Speaker A:

He and his wife Lillian served as medical missionaries in Egypt for about five years for a liberal Protestant church.

Speaker A:

During this time, Lillian suffered a nervous collapse.

Speaker A:

And when she had nightmares of violence and bloody death and was obsessed with the idea that her loved ones were in imminent danger from sharp objects like knives and swords.

Speaker A:

To me it kind of sounds like she had ocd.

Speaker A:

Those are things that, you know the, you know, having intrusive thoughts about people being harmed and like harm coming to those.

Speaker A:

It's a very categorization of it.

Speaker A:

So just armchair diagnosing her from the past, from the future.

Speaker A:

So to find a solution to these upsetting visions, it was not psychiatry.

Speaker A:

The Laugh Hats began exploring the mystical and the occult, including Theosophy, Rosicrucianism, New Thought, the I am movement and Christian mysticism.

Speaker A:

So upon they come Back to the U.S. Dr. Lefthead joins the student health service staff at Eastern Teachers College, which I'm not sure is a.

Speaker A:

It could be it.

Speaker A:

Most of my stuff came from the source.

Speaker A:

When prophecy fails, they use pseudonyms for everybody.

Speaker A:

And I try to trans like.

Speaker A:

So like Chicago is called like Windy or something like.

Speaker A:

And Detroit is called Steel City.

Speaker A:

Throughout most of it I had to be like every time he said Steel City, say Detroit.

Speaker A:

So Eastern Teachers College could be a pseudonym for another college, but.

Speaker A:

Or it could be a real one.

Speaker A:

Who knows?

Speaker A:

So at the non denominational Protestant church the laugh heads attended, Dr. Laphead organized a group named the Seekers, consisting mainly of college students who met once a week to discuss ethical, religious, metaphysical and personal problems.

Speaker A:

And soon, Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head's ever expanding interest in flying saucers.

Speaker A:

Dr. Laphead also began talking about UFOs to his colleagues and patients.

Speaker A:

When word reached the community church staff, they asked him to either stop talking about aliens or to stop holding meetings in the church.

Speaker A:

He chose the latter.

Speaker A:

And the Seekers began to meet at his home on Sunday afternoons.

Speaker A:

The Laugh Hats wrote to Dorothy telling her about their interest in the strange and unusual.

Speaker A:

And Dorothy got A message from Sananda to go to the East Lansing.

Speaker A:

There is a child there to whom I am trying to get through with light.

Speaker A:

Dorothy decided the child must be Lillian, who agreed because she thought her earlier non reception to the Guardians is what had triggered her nervous collapse in Egypt.

Speaker A:

Soon a great friendship developed between the three and they took turns staying with each other in each other's homes.

Speaker A:

During the next few months, Dorothy continued to receive messages on a diverse range of topics, from descriptions of life on other planets to warnings about the coming disasters to Earth.

Speaker A:

The messages would vary, but the gist of the ideology presented is that beyond our solar system there are other planets populated by beings of superior intelligence and advanced technologies who exist on a, quote, higher vibrator frequency.

Speaker A:

Vice my word document really wanted me to change vibrator frequency to vibration frequency, but no, it said vibrator and we're sticking with them.

Speaker A:

That so these beings exist in a higher vibrator frequency and they possess telepathic skills.

Speaker A:

The Guardians exist in the planet Clarion, which they said is a beautiful place to live, and also the planet Cirrus.

Speaker A:

The Guardians are instructors or teachers in a school of the universe called the Lazolo, which is located on Cirrus, and they are commun.

Speaker A:

They were communicating with Dorothy so that she could teach humans all of these principles and ideas so that the human race could advance dance.

Speaker A:

They also promised visits from outer space.

Speaker A:

So as she's getting these messages.

Speaker A:

Dorothy got a message to go to Lions Field, a military base to witness a UFO landings.

Speaker A:

The laugh heads were in town as Dorothy's guests and they accompanied her to the field.

Speaker A:

A few other acquaintances joined them and they gathered on a road near the field with a good view of the Runway.

Speaker A:

We didn't know what we were looking for.

Speaker A:

Oh, we were looking for flying saucers.

Speaker A:

Dorothy said, describing the incident as we stood there eating our lunch in the back of the car, just standing in the fields alongside the road and looking up at the sky through our Polaroid pieces that we had brought with us.

Speaker A:

We must have looked very silly to the ones who didn't sit around the table or those outsiders.

Speaker A:

Dorothy became aware of a stranger approaching the party, a man she had not seen walking towards them, though the road was long and straight.

Speaker A:

He got nearer the group and Dorothy saw a strange look in his eye and noticed his rigid bearing.

Speaker A:

One of the women in the party told Dorothy, be careful, that man is crazy.

Speaker A:

Instead of being afraid, Dorothy offered the man a sandwich and some juice, which he declined.

Speaker A:

Certainly no saucers.

Speaker A:

So other than that nothing particularly eventful happened at the field and certainly no saucers were seen landing.

Speaker A:

Soon though, Dorothy went home and she wanted to get further clarifications of the events that happened.

Speaker A:

And according to her pencil, it said it was I Sonata who appeared in the roadside in the guise of the Sikh or S I C E. I'm not sure pronounce that because it's a word Dorothy made up that she concluded that the word meant one who comes in disguise.

Speaker A:

Sorry, I don't know if she made that word up, but so I'm assuming she did.

Speaker A:

This filled Dorothy with joy, as to her she had just met Jesus and offered him a sandwich.

Speaker B:

Dang.

Speaker A:

In August, the first explicit messages about a coming flood came.

Speaker A:

The earthling will awaken to the great casting of the lake seething and the great destruction of the tall buildings and local city.

Speaker A:

The cast that the lake bed is sinking to the degree that it will be as great a scoop of wind from the bottom of the lake through the countryside.

Speaker A:

You should tell the world that this is to be for such it is given to you.

Speaker A:

The date only is secret.

Speaker A:

For the panic of men knows no bounds.

Speaker A:

So she was, Dorothy was the only one they're going to give the date to.

Speaker A:

And she wasn't supposed to tell anybody because men were going to freak out.

Speaker A:

Later of the expansion later expansion of the warning included that the purpose of the flood was to purify the earth and to create a whole new world order of the light.

Speaker A:

But it wasn't limited to Chicago.

Speaker A:

For the cast of the country of the USA is that is to break in twain in the area of the Mississippi in the region of the Canada, the Canada Great Lakes and the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico into the Central America will be as changed the great tilting of the land.

Speaker A:

The US to the east will throw up mountains along the central states, along the great new sea along north, to the north, along north and south.

Speaker A:

The new mountain range shall be called the Argonne range, which will signify the ones who have been there and are gone.

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Like.

Speaker B:

Like the gas was my first thought.

Speaker B:

Like Argon.

Speaker B:

But no, no, no.

Speaker B:

Terrible.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

So Egypt will become a fertile valley.

Speaker A:

Mu would rise from the Pacific.

Speaker A:

The Atlantic seaboard would be submerged.

Speaker A:

France and England are going to sink to the bottom of the ocean and Russia would become great big sea.

Speaker A:

So Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh head like got all this out and made a seven page mimeograph open letter to American editors and publishers detailing the coming catastroph and sent that out and he did not include the specific date because they were instructed not to say that, but just said that it was near.

Speaker A:

During the early fall, Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head was able to move the Seekers meetings back to the community church by promising not to talk about flying saucers.

Speaker A:

Those who wanted to keep talking about UFOs continued to meet at the Laphead House, and those became the advanced Seekers.

Speaker A:

And those meetings would typically have about 15 people, mainly college students.

Speaker A:

And they opened with a brief meditation and Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head would instruct everyone to adjust their vibrations and get in tune with each other.

Speaker A:

I think this is really interesting.

Speaker A:

So like:

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker A:

Like I, I just think it's fascinating.

Speaker A:

This is like one of the first times this is happening, right?

Speaker A:

So the doctor would say a non sectarian sort of Christian pair to the father for guidance.

Speaker A:

Then he would read the latest lesson from Dorothy, sometimes stopping to explain the meeting and often just going off on tangents about some phase of mysticism, geophysics, interplanetary travel, whatever came to mind that he wanted to talk to his audience about.

Speaker A:

Yeah, the students would ask questions, but mainly they just sat around listening to them.

Speaker A:

One meeting concluded with a letter to President.

Speaker A:

President Eisenhower.

Speaker A:

They asked everybody to sign, asking him to make public any information he had on flying sauce.

Speaker A:

Saucers.

Speaker A:

I was like, to this day, human government, tell us what you know about UFOs.

Speaker B:

Still happens.

Speaker A:

One meeting, the girls served tea and cake covered in pink and blue frosting in the design of a mothership and three small flying saucers burying the words up in the air.

Speaker B:

That sounds adorable.

Speaker A:

It does.

Speaker A:

While they had refreshments, others pulled out a ouija board, which Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh had said wouldn't work because his house was positively charged and the Ouija board was negatively charged.

Speaker A:

Then some people tried to levitate each other to no success.

Speaker A:

When the conversation got serious again, a student raised the issue of being mocked for believing in the upcoming catastrophe.

Speaker A:

And Dr. Laff had told him not to explain the prophecy to anyone who wasn't ready.

Speaker A:

And those would be ready.

Speaker A:

We're just going to be sent to his house, right?

Speaker A:

Other topics discussed during meetings, including reading, included reincarnation.

Speaker A:

Some of the fortunate, notably the two adult Laugh Heads, their college age daughter Cleo, and Bob Eastman, a convinced student member, have been told through Dorothy's automatic writings what identities they'd had when Jesus of Nazareth was on earth.

Speaker A:

Dr. Laffa did not play a large part in the discussion of reincarnation, but he made it known that someone in the room had been positively identified as Joseph and later let slip the fact that Dorothy had been Mary, the mother of Jesus.

Speaker A:

Jesus.

Speaker B:

Whoa.

Speaker A:

Also discussed were the negative effects of the spiritual state of eating meat and smoking, neither of which damnation, just a dampening of one's spiritual development.

Speaker B:

Boring, right?

Speaker A:

So throughout the study, the authors of when the prophecy fails observed 33 people who either attended meetings of the seekers or visited the home for an errand related to this movement.

Speaker A:

Of these, eight were heavily committed individuals, that is, those who had taken some action consistent with the belief that the flood was going to occur on December 24th, 21st.

Speaker A:

These actions ranged from simply making a public declaration of their beliefs to quitting their jobs or otherwise freeing themselves from further obligate future obligations and committing things that could not be undone.

Speaker A:

So, for example, the laugh head daughter Cleo, who attended meetings, the one she skipped to go caroling with her friends like a bad girl.

Speaker A:

She said those who are always talking about the future disaster got on her nerves.

Speaker A:

But in early December, she bought a bunch of clothes because she wanted to wear pretty things before the flood came.

Speaker A:

She told guests to use up what was in the house because soon they wouldn't do them much good.

Speaker A:

She also spoke of losing everything if the flood didn't come, because her father would be a laughingstock and unable to continue to fund her college education.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

She also had been told her biblical identity was Martha Lazarus's sister.

Speaker A:

She often fought with her father about how meaningless Dorothy's messages were.

Speaker B:

Whoa.

Speaker A:

Yet by mid December, she did refuse to accept a medium and Detroit's claim that the date was wrong.

Speaker A:

Another of the eight was Bob Eastman, an undergraduate majoring in educational administration.

Speaker A:

Older than most students, he had served three years in the army, which, by his own estimate, had made him a pretty rough fellow.

Speaker A:

He drank, he smoked, he swore, and he was cynical about religion and Christian ethics.

Speaker A:

But after his discharge, he joined the Detroit Flying Saucer Club and on the recommendation, made himself known to Dr. Laphead.

Speaker A:

They quickly developed a strong relationship, something like master and disciple.

Speaker A:

He gave up smoking, drinking, swearing and other quote unquote rough habits, and soon developed into one of the most apt and serious students of the movements.

Speaker A:

He kept attending classes, but only to maintain an appearance of normality because he did not want to cause panic among his classmates.

Speaker A:

But he just gave up studying for his courses and devoted all his spare time to the lessons.

Speaker A:

For enlightening his bees, he sold some property he valued a great deal in order to get money to pay off debts.

Speaker A:

He spent his Thanksgiving vacation in Detroit.

Speaker A:

Winding up his affairs and saying goodbye to his parents and friends.

Speaker A:

He did not sell his car because he thought it might be useful transportation for him and other believers during the last days.

Speaker A:

But he drove it hard, demanding utmost performance from it.

Speaker A:

And once remarked, I don't baby it anymore.

Speaker A:

I've got to use it up.

Speaker A:

There isn't much time left.

Speaker A:

So this guy's like ripping up his car.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Awesome.

Speaker B:

Ragging it out.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So he was open with the other students about the coming flood.

Speaker A:

And trying to convince his parents was not successful.

Speaker A:

He did pull in a woman named Kitty o'.

Speaker A:

Donnell.

Speaker A:

Now, Kitty worked in the production line of a nearby factory.

Speaker A:

She had been married twice and had a small child and an unseen husband when she met Bob in a bar.

Speaker A:

Soon she was one of the most devoted members of the Seekers.

Speaker A:

She quit her job at the plant, left her parents home, and moved herself and her child in a costly apartment at East Lansing.

Speaker A:

Because at any time she'd be picked up by UFOs, so why not spend it?

Speaker A:

She worried about whether her son was going to be get picked up by the UFOs, like whether or not he was advanced enough.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

But she also gave him his Christmas presents three weeks early because she thought he was going to get them because of the flood.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker A:

She told.

Speaker A:

She said that she had to believe the flood is coming on the 21st because I. I've spent nearly all my money.

Speaker A:

I quit my job, I quit computer school, and my apartment cost me $100 a month.

Speaker A:

I have to believe.

Speaker B:

Soon.

Speaker A:

Because of the complaints from parents and students about his using his position to teach about UFOs and his religious beliefs, Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head was fired.

Speaker A:

Meanwhile, the children from the grade school across from Dorothy's home would come over and ask her to tell them about flying science saucers.

Speaker B:

Oh, no.

Speaker A:

A special PTA meeting was called and Dorothy was warned to stop talking to the children or to be taken before a psychiatric examining board.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

In late November, about 10 people attending a gathering at Dorothy's house.

Speaker A:

Among them was Bertha Blatsky.

Speaker A:

A tall, robust, powerful looking woman in her early 40s.

Speaker A:

Bertha was married to a Chicago fireman, had once been a beautician, and was currently working as a clerk.

Speaker A:

She had felt frustrated in her life until she opened a beauty shop and met a woman who introduced her to dianetics and metaphysics.

Speaker A:

So at this meeting, we once again we got something that was started with meditation, led by one of the authors.

Speaker A:

Slash, I'll say infiltrators of the group.

Speaker A:

Then Dorothy said A few words and the the room returned to silence for 20 minutes.

Speaker A:

Oh my God.

Speaker A:

So they're just sitting in a room.

Speaker B:

Meditating for 20 minutes?

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

Then Bertha couldn't take it anymore.

Speaker A:

She was sitting on the couch and her head started getting thrown back and her eyes closed and she began to breathe very deeply in short, sighing breaths.

Speaker A:

She continued almost panting and interspersing in an occasional low moan for perhaps two minutes, then began to gasp.

Speaker A:

I got the words.

Speaker A:

I got the words.

Speaker A:

Over and over again.

Speaker A:

Her heavy breathing continued at a more rapid rate and she began to sob.

Speaker A:

Within a few minutes, Dr. Laphead and Dorothy had crossed the room to help her.

Speaker A:

They stretched her out on the couch.

Speaker A:

Dr. Left had felt her pose her pulse, and then motioned for her to be left alone.

Speaker A:

Dorothy sat next to her, but said not a word.

Speaker A:

The rest of the gathering just sat rooted to their chairs in uneasy silence.

Speaker A:

So awkward, so awkward.

Speaker B:

Love silence.

Speaker A:

So much silence.

Speaker A:

Bertha's panting and sighing became louder and became great racking sobs followed by swift lip quivering in her late inhalation, all interspersed with breathless phrases.

Speaker A:

I got the words then.

Speaker A:

I am the Lord thy God.

Speaker A:

Thou shalt have no other.

Speaker A:

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Speaker A:

Her eyes closed.

Speaker A:

Her whole body quivered with emotion.

Speaker A:

Then she said that over and over again, and then she paused.

Speaker A:

Then she said, this is Sananda.

Speaker A:

Sananda speaks.

Speaker A:

Sananda speaks.

Speaker A:

I am Sananda.

Speaker A:

These are my civics.

Speaker A:

My precious civics.

Speaker A:

She broke off suddenly with the shriek, a cry of pain, and began to protest.

Speaker A:

Oh no, not me.

Speaker A:

Not me.

Speaker A:

He can't be me.

Speaker A:

I give you my civics.

Speaker B:

Oh no.

Speaker A:

He can't be me.

Speaker A:

Me, me.

Speaker A:

Oh no.

Speaker A:

Her voice trailed off into moans as Dorothy sped to her side, cloudly and clearly repeating, oh yes he does, Bertha.

Speaker A:

Yes, Bertha, he does mean you.

Speaker A:

Later, when Bertha was faltering, giving messages out, Dorothy said to her, this is just the beginning.

Speaker A:

You haven't seen anything yet.

Speaker A:

If you think the evening is over, you are mistaken.

Speaker A:

We don't know what this is all about, but I have the feeling they want us to go ahead.

Speaker A:

They all doing they are doing this for a purpose.

Speaker A:

If anybody thinks he's going to get any sleep tonight, he's got another thing coming.

Speaker A:

There isn't time for sleep.

Speaker A:

They've got work for us to do.

Speaker A:

You after an hour later, another round of precious Civics.

Speaker A:

Bertha speaking in her maybe her own voice suggested that it might be advisable for them to stop for the night.

Speaker A:

But Dorothy said, no, no, Bertha, you haven't Gone the last mile.

Speaker A:

Yet the session continued to 8 in the morning.

Speaker B:

Ew.

Speaker A:

One of Bertha's last acts in her early morning trance was to call a second meeting for that very night, Nov. 24, at 11pm she asserted this time would be favorable for receiving messages.

Speaker A:

It later turned out that her husband, who disapproved of her explorations the occult, worked a swing shift and would be on duty after 11pm that makes more sense.

Speaker A:

The meetings continued and Bertha was rolling along in this new role until she told her husband, who thought she was out practicing Dianetic Therapy, that she was a medium for the Creator and that she had elected to bear the Christ child.

Speaker A:

She went into a trance and threatened to strike him dead if he was disobedient.

Speaker A:

He did not take any of this well, and he forbade her from leaving the house without his permission.

Speaker A:

Remember, this was the 50s.

Speaker A:

Her husband declared that if she had not voluntarily given up all connection with the group by January 1st, he was going to send her to a psychiatrist and destroy all the books and writings associated with the movement.

Speaker A:

This psychologically defeated Bera.

Speaker A:

On December 14, each member was issued a passport, a piece of blank stationary and a 3 cent stamped envelope to show when boarding the flying saucer that would pick them up.

Speaker A:

I want one of those passports so much.

Speaker A:

I. I want to.

Speaker A:

I want to craft them.

Speaker A:

I want to be there at the craft session.

Speaker A:

During private consultations with Dorothy, members were also told the password.

Speaker A:

I left my hat at home to use that day.

Speaker A:

Some members were even assigned a numbered seat on a specific saucer.

Speaker A:

Sometime before noon On Friday the 17th, Dorothy received a phone call from a man who told her he was Captain Video from Outer Space.

Speaker A:

He informed her that a saucer would land in her backyard to pick her up at 4 o' clock that afternoon.

Speaker A:

The telephone message was undoubtedly the work of a practical joker, but the believers took it seriously and began preparing for the pit pickup.

Speaker A:

All things had to be taken seriously.

Speaker A:

And so by noon, all five of the regular members of the group were ready to go.

Speaker A:

They had removed every scrap of metal from their persons, including zippers, metal, metal clasp, buttons of metal backing, bobby pins and belt buckles so they can't wear metal on the saucer.

Speaker A:

Four o' clock finally came, and the chosen ones gathered in the kitchen with their coats, simply walking out on whatever visitors happen to be in the living room.

Speaker A:

Dorothy was ecstatic.

Speaker A:

Hardly able to stand still, she ran between the back porch and the kitchen window, looking up at the sky.

Speaker A:

Everyone started doing the same thing for about 10 minutes.

Speaker A:

This happened then.

Speaker A:

Dorothy just removed her coat, told other ones to keep watching, and went back to the living room.

Speaker A:

It was like, I guess, no saucer.

Speaker A:

At midnight, Dorothy received a message that a flying saucer was then on its way to pick up the Chosen and it would not wait for anyone to was not ready.

Speaker A:

came back to the house around:

Speaker A:

The front door was unlocked.

Speaker A:

The lights were on.

Speaker A:

The house was empty.

Speaker A:

I went upstairs and looked around.

Speaker A:

There was no sign of a soul in the house.

Speaker A:

When I returned downstairs, Mark Post came in the back door and said, do you have any metal on you?

Speaker A:

I said, I did not.

Speaker A:

And then he told me to come with him.

Speaker A:

We went out in the backyard.

Speaker A:

It was cold, it was snowing, and the ground was very wet.

Speaker A:

Marian, Lillian, Thomas, and Edna were all there.

Speaker A:

Dorothy told me about the message and asked me again about metal.

Speaker A:

She wanted to know about my shoes.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And Edna said I would have to take my shoes off because they had nails in them.

Speaker A:

She got back in the house, take your shoes off.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

So he started ripping the heels from her shoes.

Speaker A:

And she was like, don't do that.

Speaker A:

Just get me some socks and some bedroom slippers.

Speaker A:

So then she ripped the buttons off her coat because they had metal on them.

Speaker A:

Then we got back outside, and Edna took me aside and said, how about your brassier?

Speaker A:

It has metal glass, doesn't it?

Speaker A:

So I went back in the house and took my brassiere off.

Speaker A:

The only metal on me was the fillings in my teeth, and I was afraid someone would mention those.

Speaker A:

So about 1am Dorothy started saying that she was very cold.

Speaker A:

And she added that if they wanted her to go into the house and get a message, she would do it.

Speaker A:

She said she would only do it if they really wanted her to.

Speaker A:

I mean, she was getting cold, but she didn't want to, you know, take this was not on her.

Speaker A:

And then finally she was like, all right, all right, right.

Speaker A:

I'll go in.

Speaker A:

I'll get a message.

Speaker B:

Oh, my gosh.

Speaker A:

And if I blink that light, that means you'll be able to come back in.

Speaker A:

That is a test.

Speaker A:

And she, the woman who was the observer, was like, I expected her to go back in and blink the lights and we go back inside.

Speaker A:

But she just came back in and was just like, you guys have to stay outside.

Speaker A:

And the flying saucer was gonna arrive within the hour.

Speaker A:

So they waited outside until 2am Everybody was super happy.

Speaker A:

And, you know, they all had this anticipation, anticipation.

Speaker A:

And they kept seeing a bunch of lightning in the sky, and they thought those were signals.

Speaker A:

Dorothy said she saw a bright spot of light hovering around the chimney.

Speaker A:

The light, she said, would come and go.

Speaker A:

They went to go warm up in the car.

Speaker A:

Dorothy got a message that said they should go back inside and get some rest and at the proper time, a man would come to lead them to the place that they were going to be picked up.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

At about 10 o' clock in the morning of December 20th, Dorothy got a group for the whole message for the group saying they're going to be picked up that night at midnight, together with seven people in the house, including a bunch of Infiltrators, about 15 people who prepared for departure.

Speaker A:

That night, only Dorothy's husband was missing.

Speaker A:

He had apparently decided this vigil was not for him and he went to bed.

Speaker A:

So at about:

Speaker A:

They instructed everyone to sit quietly.

Speaker A:

Is that this just like an ordinary group of friends?

Speaker A:

Because she didn't want any, like, cops outside or anything, any newspaper people or any neighbors.

Speaker A:

And they, like, know that this was the time that they were coming.

Speaker A:

They were about ready to go when one of the members suddenly remembered that his shoes had metal toe caps and it was too late to remove them.

Speaker A:

From the ensuing excitement emerged the suggestion that he should simply loosen the laces and step out of his shoes before entering the saucer.

Speaker A:

About:

Speaker A:

This knowledge produced a near panic reaction.

Speaker A:

They rushed him into the red bedroom where Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh had hands trembling, eyes darting to the clock.

Speaker A:

Every few seconds, slash the zipper with a razor blade and wrench the class free with wire cutters.

Speaker A:

Now, this seems very dangerous for a man with shaking hands to be near a zipper, near someone's penis.

Speaker A:

Yes, I'm just saying this is very dangerous.

Speaker A:

peration was complete, it was:

Speaker A:

Midnight was almost on hand and everyone must be ready.

Speaker A:

And the last 10 minutes were terse ones for the group.

Speaker A:

In the living room, they sat around with their coats in their lap with two clocks ticking loudly.

Speaker A:

One was about 10 minutes faster than the other, so they're not even tying together.

Speaker A:

faster of the two pointed to:

Speaker A:

And a chorus of people replied that midnight had not yet come because a slower clock was Current.

Speaker A:

Correct.

Speaker A:

So then those four minutes passed and there was a complete silence.

Speaker A:

And then when the slower clock showed only one minute remaining before the guide to the saucer was due, Dorothy exclaimed in a strained, high pitched voice, and not a plan has gone astray.

Speaker A:

The clock strike 12.

Speaker A:

Each stroke painfully clear.

Speaker A:

In the expectant hush, the believer sat motionless.

Speaker A:

One might have expected some visible reaction.

Speaker A:

Midnight had passed and nothing had happened.

Speaker A:

The cataclysm was less than seven hours away.

Speaker A:

But there was little to see in the reactions in the people of that room.

Speaker A:

No one spoke, no one made a sound.

Speaker A:

People sat stock still, their faces seemingly frozen and expressionless.

Speaker A:

By:

Speaker A:

A miracle that would be wrought that very night.

Speaker A:

He gradually developed the point that the group had gathered this night to witness a miracle, namely the death and resurrection of Dorothy's husband.

Speaker A:

Now, this is the man who went to bed.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So before the end of the night, three times Dr.

Speaker A:

Laugh Head and one of the observers were sent to to his room to see if he had died yet.

Speaker A:

Three times they returned, noting that he was still alive and breathing normally.

Speaker A:

The miracle did not seem to be happening.

Speaker A:

And finally, the Creator, floundering for a solution, announced the miracle had already occurred.

Speaker A:

Mr. Martin had died earlier that evening, but had been resurrected and was once again alive.

Speaker B:

Oh, okay, we just missed it.

Speaker A:

Missed it.

Speaker A:

Or perhaps the Creator began reworking the miracle.

Speaker A:

Maybe that it was a spiritual death and because Mr. Martin had been spiritually dead and just a walking shell and it only had begun to take a new interest in the beliefs of the group.

Speaker A:

And you know, tonight while he was sleeping, his process was completed and he was being spiritually resurrected.

Speaker B:

Got it.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

Most of the group at this point was like, what?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

At about 2:30, Dorothy received a message from Sonata urging the group to take a coffee break.

Speaker A:

I appreciate that these gods are coming in with messages saying, you need a cookie.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

You need some coffee, some caffeine and a cookie.

Speaker A:

At about 4:45am, Dorothy received a message that the cataclysm had been called off because their group, after sitting all night long, had spread so much light that God was going to spare the world from the storm destruction.

Speaker A:

Oh, they did it.

Speaker A:

They saved the world.

Speaker B:

They did.

Speaker A:

Unfortunately, soon Dorothy would receive a message that doomsday was back on for Christmas Eve and all the members of the group were to go outside and sing Christmas carols and the UFOs would come to get them.

Speaker A:

And this they did.

Speaker A:

They went out in the snow.

Speaker A:

And much to the delight of newspaper reporters around the world, they went out in the snow and sang Christmas carols, waiting for the UFOs.

Speaker A:

But once again, no flying saucers game.

Speaker A:

In:

Speaker A:

Fessinger and his co authors offered the following explanation of this mechanism.

Speaker A:

When beliefs collide with reality, a person enters a state of cognitive dissonance.

Speaker A:

Dissonance, yeah.

Speaker A:

To relieve the internal tension, one can either abandon those beliefs or they are too deeply entrenched.

Speaker A:

Reinterpret events themselves.

Speaker A:

Once the aliens fail to appear, the seekers are forced to make this choice.

Speaker A:

Since this publication, the concept of cognitive dissonance has been applied to explain the behavior of cults and dictatorships.

Speaker A:

And this why.

Speaker A:

Said it at the beginning of the earlier.

Speaker A:

Why?

Speaker A:

I said at the earlier.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

What I meant earlier about this hat this being problematic was the fact that they were doing a study where they just like inserted themselves.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Into a group.

Speaker A:

And that's not really how you do science.

Speaker A:

And they were, they were shaping like they were pretending, participating.

Speaker A:

Then they were participating, saying that they, they were having dreams and messages and all, all sorts of things that they were, they believed in the UFOs.

Speaker A:

So they were.

Speaker A:

They were not.

Speaker A:

Not that there was.

Speaker A:

The biases were.

Speaker A:

Yeah, were there.

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker A:

However, this is where the idea of cognitive.

Speaker A:

Cognitive dissonance comes from.

Speaker B:

Interesting.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Dorothy would later become known as Sister Phaedra.

Speaker A:

Moving around Arizona, California, Peru and Bolivia, she continued to channel messages from the higher realms, focusing more on transformation, cosmic evolution and metaphysical guidance than on doomsday for all prophecies.

Speaker A:

,:

Speaker A:

Her spiritual organization continued disseminating her messages even well after her death.

Speaker A:

Wild.

Speaker B:

Interesting.

Speaker A:

I love it.

Speaker A:

So I mean, they're, they're, like I said, they're called one of the first UFO cults.

Speaker A:

I'm not sure I would call them a cult just because they do have the charismatic leaders and, and Dr. Martin and.

Speaker A:

I mean, not.

Speaker A:

And Dorothy Martin and a doctor laughed.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

But I'm not sure they're really like cult leaders, you know what I mean?

Speaker A:

Like, people gave up their stuff, you know, like.

Speaker B:

But not to them.

Speaker A:

Yeah, Kitty.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

They weren't giving the money up to them, so I don't know.

Speaker A:

I mean, I definitely think they were ufo, like group, but I don't know if I'm cold, but yeah.

Speaker A:

Anyhow.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

So that's the story of ufo, the UFO group, the Seekers.

Speaker B:

Interesting, huh?

Speaker A:

Well, back in supernatural land, we're going back to some more tentacle porn.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So we're gonna see Sandy getting attacked by the tentacles of this God, and her eyes glow purple.

Speaker B:

And then she apparently ate Diego and all the rest of them.

Speaker B:

And she was trying to.

Speaker B:

Some.

Speaker B:

And she was trying to summon her mate, but they were able to shut it down and bind her.

Speaker B:

So ever since then, Marco and Ophelia's family have looked over this.

Speaker B:

Bound Sandy.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So somehow they've been watching over this monster stuck inside this woman's body.

Speaker A:

And they dress up in robes and chant because somehow they had to keep the robes going.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So we go from.

Speaker A:

It's very kind of confusing.

Speaker A:

I'm kind of confused about who these members are, who watch them over.

Speaker A:

Like, why was the sheriff in it?

Speaker A:

Because he clearly wasn't part of their family.

Speaker A:

Sheriff's not, you know, so I don't know.

Speaker A:

That's a little.

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker A:

I thought that was a little off.

Speaker B:

To me, it's a little confusing.

Speaker A:

So we're gonna go back to the Asmodeus layer.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Who.

Speaker B:

He's still shooting up Grace, and Catch is just watching him.

Speaker B:

And he starts monologuing about Catching.

Speaker B:

And that how he's as bad as any demon.

Speaker B:

But Catch is like, no, no, but I have a soul, and I know who I am.

Speaker B:

And Asmodeus is like, no, no.

Speaker B:

You think you have a code, but you work for me.

Speaker B:

And you just want redemption, but you can't be redeemed.

Speaker A:

Our kind never gets it.

Speaker A:

We just spread our pain around.

Speaker A:

Blah, blah, blah.

Speaker A:

You're mine.

Speaker A:

And then we pan to Gabriel, and I'm like, poor Gabriel.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And we're gonna go to the diner where it looks like the guys in the robes are gone.

Speaker A:

And Bob.

Speaker A:

Buck's gonna go outside to take a look.

Speaker A:

Brave, brave Buck.

Speaker A:

And it turns out in his pocket knife.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

But we've got.

Speaker B:

Ophelia and Marco are explaining that to Sam that Sandy is a God who only wants to eat and breed.

Speaker B:

And they cannot figure out how to kill her.

Speaker B:

That's why she's been locked up until y'.

Speaker A:

All.

Speaker A:

I think she might be immortal, because as far as they know, she can't die.

Speaker A:

Die.

Speaker A:

So that's a problem.

Speaker A:

And that's why they were keeping her locked up until you guys came in and did her.

Speaker B:

Thanks.

Speaker B:

So Buck does find some of the hooded figures on the ground, which is not great.

Speaker B:

And that mean.

Speaker B:

Then Sandy approaches and she punches a tentacle into him.

Speaker B:

And he calls out,.

Speaker A:

Tentacle eats him.

Speaker A:

Dean comes out.

Speaker A:

And then Sandy opens her tentacle mouth to Dean.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So now we go back to Catch and he is pulling out one of his teeth.

Speaker B:

And I don't like that.

Speaker A:

You can wait till the Later.

Speaker A:

We didn't need this.

Speaker A:

And Gabriel is watching him.

Speaker A:

And Catch wants to set Gabriel free.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

He's like, look, let's.

Speaker B:

Let's do this.

Speaker B:

And so he is gonna open Gabriel's cell and grab the archangel blade that Asmodeus had gotten button.

Speaker B:

And they are going to run.

Speaker B:

But Gabriel's struggling.

Speaker B:

It's really kind of annoying.

Speaker B:

But either way.

Speaker B:

So they run and Catch kills our demon.

Speaker B:

That we are funny, Wallace.

Speaker A:

Oh, yeah.

Speaker A:

We barely knew you, buddy.

Speaker A:

And so we lost another demon minion.

Speaker A:

And we're gonna go back to the diner where Joanne, who has like, I've noticed as a waitress, like she was always like interrupting them, like the worst moments.

Speaker A:

And this now she continues this.

Speaker A:

So she almost hits Sam the frying pan.

Speaker B:

She does.

Speaker A:

Joanne is like inconvenient waitress.

Speaker B:

She is.

Speaker B:

And then she's like, hey, yeah, your brother Dean went to go check on Buck.

Speaker B:

And then all of a sudden, they all finally notice.

Speaker B:

And Ophelia, Marco are there.

Speaker B:

There's a bunch of bodies there.

Speaker B:

And that means that our.

Speaker B:

The God Sandy.

Speaker B:

The.

Speaker B:

The God inside Sandy got food in her belly.

Speaker B:

And if he.

Speaker B:

She took Dean.

Speaker B:

If she's not feeding, she's breeding.

Speaker A:

Title of my next album.

Speaker A:

Back at the altar, Dean is tied up.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And he's kind of funny.

Speaker B:

He's like, sandy, what the hell?

Speaker B:

And we get.

Speaker B:

So we get a little Ghostbuster easy exchange.

Speaker B:

And I very much appreciate it.

Speaker B:

That's what it reminded me of.

Speaker B:

It's like Sandy's dead.

Speaker B:

And so she defines herself as the.

Speaker B:

As the.

Speaker B:

What is the.

Speaker B:

What's the God?

Speaker B:

I can't.

Speaker B:

I always.

Speaker A:

Yoko, star of madness, Ravager of galaxies, mother of faceless hordes.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And she's got her little chalice and she's all ready.

Speaker B:

And she's like.

Speaker B:

It was supposed to be her and her mate, but the.

Speaker B:

But the rift got shut.

Speaker B:

And I think that Dean's like.

Speaker B:

Like a Hallmark movie with tentacles.

Speaker A:

Oh, my God.

Speaker A:

That's tragic.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And so at least we got someone record.

Speaker A:

And at least I'm not the only one and does get pointed out.

Speaker A:

Out again later.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

But she likes Dean and she likes looking at his Face.

Speaker A:

So sue is going to allow him to be Glitter's host.

Speaker B:

And this universe is just so full of light and life.

Speaker B:

And yeah, they're gonna undo that.

Speaker B:

So he.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So she opens this rift and through with the little chant after using the stuff in the chalice.

Speaker B:

And our tentacle is trying to get Dean, but Dean's too spry for that.

Speaker B:

He is dodging, dodging.

Speaker B:

And luckily then Sam, Ophelia, Marco run in.

Speaker B:

And they're all trying to fight.

Speaker B:

But luckily Dean's able to pick the lock on his wrist, which is great news.

Speaker B:

And we find out that apparently this like necklace thing that.

Speaker B:

That Sandy has is the Seal of Solomon.

Speaker B:

It's like this glowy stone on a chain.

Speaker B:

So there's.

Speaker B:

We get a.

Speaker B:

Finally we get an incantation going on.

Speaker B:

And the tentacles grab Sandy and pull her back through the rift.

Speaker B:

So she's got.

Speaker A:

With her mate.

Speaker A:

So that's cool.

Speaker A:

So at least they're romance this thing.

Speaker A:

And Dean is fine.

Speaker A:

And Ophelia, Marco hug.

Speaker A:

And then Sam has to explain to them why they need this.

Speaker A:

The seal.

Speaker A:

And Dean wants to take it to the ones.

Speaker A:

Dean wants it to take them somewhere other than tentacle porn land.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So they're like that.

Speaker A:

They need a guide from something who has been there.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

And Ophelia is like, yeah.

Speaker B:

By the way, when you go, when you do open your rift, you're going.

Speaker B:

The rift is only going to be open for 24 hours.

Speaker B:

So keep that in mind when you go.

Speaker A:

How do they know that?

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

It's confusing.

Speaker A:

So apparently they know that.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And so you go to the bunker.

Speaker B:

Yep.

Speaker B:

And anyway, so Dean's talking about the.

Speaker B:

He's glad that he didn't get pulled into an interdimensional booty call, but.

Speaker B:

And now all they need is archangel and archangel grace.

Speaker B:

But who is waiting for them?

Speaker B:

Catch.

Speaker B:

And they are going to pull their guns immediately.

Speaker B:

But he's like, I have a gift.

Speaker B:

Look at this.

Speaker B:

Ta da.

Speaker B:

It's Gabriel.

Speaker B:

And Sam and Dean are like, wtf?

Speaker B:

He's dead?

Speaker B:

And he's like, nope.

Speaker B:

Asmodeus had him and I freed him.

Speaker B:

You're welcome, basically.

Speaker B:

But Sam's like, cool.

Speaker B:

Well, by the way, we need your grace, Gabriel.

Speaker B:

And Gabriel is not into this because he's been.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Tortured.

Speaker A:

And he's just so agitated by this.

Speaker A:

And Catch is just like, no, no, no, no, no, no.

Speaker A:

I got your grace.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he's got the little vial he stole.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So salmonine finally lower their guns.

Speaker B:

And they're just like, but why would you.

Speaker B:

Why would you do this?

Speaker B:

Why would you help us?

Speaker B:

Whatever.

Speaker B:

And he's like, look, I. I was working for Asmodeus, and now I need protection from him.

Speaker B:

So, yeah, I'm gonna.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna help you because this is the only safe place that I. I can go.

Speaker B:

It's with y', all, basically.

Speaker B:

And Dean's like, deal.

Speaker B:

Like, Dean goes for this fast.

Speaker B:

And Sam's kind of like, are you sure?

Speaker B:

But Dean's like, no, we're gonna get mom back in.

Speaker B:

Jack and Jack back.

Speaker B:

Duh.

Speaker B:

This how we do it.

Speaker B:

Whatever.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

And then we get to uncomfortably watch Sam cut the stitches from Gabriel's lips.

Speaker B:

I don't like it.

Speaker A:

I don't like it.

Speaker A:

But I also don't like his lips being shut.

Speaker B:

So I know it's both.

Speaker B:

It's both.

Speaker A:

It just seems satisfying at the same time.

Speaker A:

So Dean comes in, and he is gung ho and ready to go know.

Speaker A:

But of course he wants to do this alone.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he wants Sam to stay just in case, and he can stay with Gabriel.

Speaker B:

And catch is like, well, I'm going with Dean.

Speaker B:

Asmodeus is hunting me.

Speaker B:

I don't want to be on this earth, so I'm going to go with him.

Speaker B:

And Dean's like, sure.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, what, you're cool with him going, but not me?

Speaker B:

And Dean's like, I don't care if he dies.

Speaker B:

I'm kind of rooting for it.

Speaker A:

Funny.

Speaker B:

But Sam's pretty bummed about this.

Speaker B:

But Dean's claims part of his reason is that if something happens or if time runs out that way Sam can come save them.

Speaker B:

But Sam points out the obvious that we've learned through 13 seasons is that they are safer together.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

And Dean's like, no, I know you.

Speaker A:

Don't like it, but it's how it's going to be.

Speaker B:

Me.

Speaker B:

And so Sam does the spell, and our rift appears, and Dean and Catch go through.

Speaker A:

And while not named in the episodes, the chants that are used to open the rifts are designated as Necronochian in their respective scripts.

Speaker B:

Wow.

Speaker A:

Because it's like Cthulhu, Lovecraft, Necronomicon.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Mixed with Enochian.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Interesting.

Speaker B:

Ah, so.

Speaker A:

So do we have some cast People.

Speaker B:

Talked about casting couch.

Speaker A:

It's the casting couch.

Speaker A:

Were they on that show that time with that guy?

Speaker B:

We do.

Speaker B:

So Sandy talks about Wallace.

Speaker B:

I do have him in here eventually.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Sandy was played by Magda Apenowitz.

Speaker B:

She's been in Hellcats, the mentalist, travelers, magicians iZombie and Flash.

Speaker B:

She was the teen punk girl in Butterfly Effect, reoccurring character named Andy and Kyle xy.

Speaker B:

She was in Caprica as a reoccurring character.

Speaker B:

And then Sandy, funny enough, as her character name in the miniseries you Ophelia Avilia.

Speaker B:

So Ophelia Avila was played by Tiffany Smith.

Speaker B:

She's been in Jane the Virgin and Cisla Landman and Quantum Leap.

Speaker B:

She is.

Joanne was played by Enid Ray Adams.

Speaker B:

She is in a couple episodes of Supernatural, but she's been in Taken, Dead, Like Me, Fringe, Eye, Zombie, Bates Motel, Lucifer and Arrow and Riverdale, Van Helsing and Travelers.

Speaker B:

She was a prostitute in Lonesome Dove, maid of honor in a guy thing, and a doctor in Final Destination 2, which is the one that ruined most people for driving behind a vehicle with logs in the back.

Speaker B:

Marco was played by Ivan Juan Ruiz, and he's in a couple episodes the Supernatural as well, but he's been in Hellcat, Smallville, Fringe, Supergirl, Designated Survivor, Reacher and Doc.

Speaker B:

Our head cultist, which was implied, was named Diego, was played by Carl Montoya.

Speaker B:

He's been in the Flash and Siren and more.

Speaker B:

Our demon Wallace was played by Lee Page.

Speaker B:

He's been in Once Upon a Time, I, Zombie Arrow and Firefly Lane.

Speaker B:

Buck was actually played or actually I'll Come Back.

Speaker B:

He's Victor as a reoccurring character in Deadly Class, Chip in Live Hard, and Brett as a reoccurring character in Riverdale.

Speaker A:

There we go.

Speaker A:

Yeah, there you go.

Speaker B:

So I thought this was an interesting episode.

Speaker A:

You didn't say Paul is.

Speaker B:

That was.

Speaker B:

Oh, I did.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

It was Lee Page.

Speaker B:

He was our demon.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I did.

Speaker B:

But, yeah, I thought it was an interesting episode.

Speaker B:

I think.

Speaker B:

I like that it kind of had an.

Speaker B:

I think there was some inconsistencies, which made it hard.

Speaker B:

But I also liked that we tied in other Men of Letters and they got the ingredients and they.

Speaker B:

We were moving forward with the mission.

Speaker A:

Mission, yeah, that makes sense.

Speaker A:

I do like that we're moving forward with the mission, although I do not like how fast we move forward with the mission.

Speaker A:

Like, I'm glad that we're moving forward but as from a.

Speaker A:

A what the are you doing?

Speaker A:

Stance, I feel like maybe we could have had a little bit more planning.

Speaker A:

I know I'm a control freak, and I like to plan stuff out, but, like, maybe just being like, okay, we got all this stuff done.

Speaker A:

Let's go.

Speaker A:

Like, where the.

Speaker A:

Is Cass?

Speaker A:

Cass.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

There's not a lot of talk about that.

Speaker A:

Are you just not, like, telling him that I'm going over, like, I don't know, let's mix them.

Speaker A:

Maybe cats would be a better choice to go with you than catch.

Speaker A:

Than catch.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Oh, maybe he needs to know about Gabriel.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Yeah, there's all sorts of, like, things like maybe, like, slow down, take a breath, and I. Yeah, that's Dean you're.

Speaker B:

Talking about, you know?

Speaker A:

I know.

Speaker B:

So, yeah, that's all I got.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Oh, and, you know, it's.

Speaker A:

I. I like the.

Speaker A:

The aesthetics of the.

Speaker A:

Obviously of the.

Speaker A:

Of the ritual of summoning of the.

Speaker A:

The interdimensional beings.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

I thought the way that they tied in because, you know, this also ties in with the Lovecraftian things they did back in season six.

Speaker B:

Six.

Speaker A:

So having that tie in is cool.

Speaker A:

Too much tentacle, though.

Speaker A:

Like, that was just too much.

Speaker A:

That was just.

Speaker A:

We don't need that much.

Speaker A:

You could.

Speaker A:

I mean, I'm glad that y' all got really into this, but maybe somebody.

Speaker B:

In effects was having too much fun.

Speaker B:

A little.

Speaker A:

A little too much there, guys.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker A:

I think on Too much tentacle is the.

Speaker A:

As a note, we'll leave.

Speaker B:

Cheers, bitch.
