Liz:

On this week's episode of Devil's trap podcast.

Liz:

It's a boner.

Liz:

It's an adventure.

Liz:

It's a boner.

Diana:

Venture and be gone, Satan.

Diana:

Happy Halloween.

Diana:

Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.

Diana:

I'm Diana.

Liz:

And I'm Liz.

Diana:

And we're Gonna Talk Season 9, Episode 17, Mother's Little Helper.

Diana:

But first, we're coming up on we're in spooky season, which is spooky all year by most people's feelings.

Diana:

But, yeah, it'll be a happy Halloween on episode day.

Liz:

Yeah, true.

Liz:

The day we drop will be Halloween.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

It came so fast.

Diana:

It did.

Diana:

It did.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

One of my coaches this week was very excited that it's almost time that she can put up her tree.

Liz:

And I was just like, oh, my God, will you?

Liz:

Or oh, my Satan or whatever.

Liz:

But I.

Liz:

I haven't even got my Halloween yet.

Liz:

You're trying to already push it aside for your happy shiny tree.

Liz:

Like, no, let me please have my spooky season at least until the end of the week.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And see, I'm.

Diana:

You know, me.

Diana:

You know, I'm a fucking.

Diana:

I love my Christmas decorations.

Diana:

I love all.

Diana:

I like Halloween.

Liz:

You also like your Halloween decorations.

Diana:

I do, yeah.

Diana:

Like, don't let me get through this.

Diana:

Like, I.

Diana:

I don't.

Diana:

I'm not a purist about the Thanksgiving rule on your Christmas decorations at all.

Diana:

Like, I'll be.

Diana:

Probably put mine up before Thanksgiving because honestly, it's just easier sometimes.

Diana:

Usually busy.

Diana:

This year I might not.

Liz:

We'll see.

Diana:

But.

Diana:

But like, before.

Diana:

Before talking about it before Halloween is just nonsense.

Liz:

It is, but she also said she didn't like Halloween, so clearly she's not.

Diana:

Oh, well, I don't understand her at all.

Diana:

Yeah, I don't trust her anyways.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

Person should be investigated.

Liz:

Possibly a pod person.

Liz:

Maybe a lizard.

Liz:

I don't know.

Diana:

Yeah, she's really bendy.

Liz:

People shouldn't be able to hang like that.

Liz:

I'm just saying.

Diana:

I just, like, I don't know.

Diana:

That's just weird.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

I can't even process liking Halloween.

Diana:

Like, well, a little bit.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

But like, also, like, I don't know.

Diana:

I mean, I feel like people.

Diana:

I get people, like, being, like, I don't know, ambivalent about it, but, like, actively disliking it or I also, like, have a mental association with people that are, like, into unique arts like that.

Diana:

Tending to be a little more open to holidays in general, especially spooky ones.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

I mean, but that's a stereotype, and I guess I should never.

Liz:

They just weren't a trick or treating family, so.

Liz:

But I mean, I.

Liz:

I would say, like, that maybe cruel and unusual punishment as a child, like, what kind of sick parents don't take your children to get free candy?

Diana:

That's rude.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

It was a huge ordeal.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

It was a huge thing in our neighborhood.

Diana:

We like a whole group of us.

Diana:

It was a posse.

Diana:

It was a thing.

Liz:

Well, yeah, but then we moved when I was in fourth grade.

Liz:

And that's kind of the point too, where you're kind of on the edge of whether or not you trick or treat her or not.

Liz:

And.

Liz:

And at that point, they would have had to.

Liz:

My parents would have had to take me somewhere to go trick or treating, and they weren't going to do that, you know, my parents.

Liz:

So, you know, once it was no longer a convenient Halloween kind of stuff stopped.

Liz:

But I.

Liz:

And maybe that's why I love it so much too, is I had it taken away.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Oh, I don't know, man.

Diana:

I.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

I.

Diana:

I enjoy it.

Diana:

And like, you think that they would lean into it as they got older because they're like, I didn't get to do this, but I don't know.

Diana:

I'm on.

Diana:

Dave and I have been going through the Halloween candy.

Diana:

I keep.

Diana:

I keep buying it because my whole, like, strategy a couple years ago was I'll buy like a bag a week lead like in, like, leading up to Halloween so that I've got a whole bunch for Halloween to give out.

Diana:

But I've eaten a couple bags worth.

Diana:

I think over this time, strategy is failing me.

Liz:

Seeing my strategy has been to not buy the Halloween candy so I don't eat it.

Diana:

That's a better one.

Liz:

And that's been working.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

I have not been eating the Halloween candy that I did not buy.

Diana:

That's one strategy.

Diana:

That's a strategy I shared with you, I'm sure.

Diana:

I think I sent to you the Atlas Obscura.

Diana:

What?

Diana:

Yeah, that's who it is.

Diana:

Right.

Diana:

Atlips Obscura did a.

Diana:

An interesting article, busting the myth of poison candy.

Diana:

Well, I know, but there's a term I never heard before I didn't remember hearing before.

Diana:

And it's not specifically about that.

Diana:

The candy, but it was.

Diana:

I thought it was just really an.

Diana:

I know we've talked about it, but.

Liz:

It'S Halloween show to you.

Diana:

I.

Diana:

The term that they used.

Liz:

I think so I'm pretty sure I use that as an article, as a research.

Diana:

I know you did, but I was just.

Diana:

I was sharing that it came out again, like, okay.

Liz:

I was like, that's so like, okay.

Diana:

No, because it was timely this week either way.

Diana:

I just thought it was.

Diana:

It was just a good timely one.

Diana:

I thought to mention again about the myth of poison candy.

Diana:

Anyway, so nobody's putting.

Diana:

Nobody wants to give their drugs to your child.

Diana:

That's.

Diana:

That's the other part of it that we always.

Liz:

No, nobody wants to give their drugs to your child.

Liz:

Maybe some people want to slip some razor blades in there.

Diana:

The term was Halloween sadism.

Diana:

I thought that was a.

Diana:

Interesting term.

Diana:

So anyway.

Diana:

But yeah, so I had my car show this weekend and it went well.

Diana:

And now we'll wait a year and do it again.

Liz:

That's exciting.

Diana:

That's about all I got going on.

Diana:

How about you?

Liz:

I have nothing going on.

Diana:

You need to go play with fire again.

Liz:

Yeah, the tomorrow.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

It's just not as exciting as you would think it is.

Diana:

Playing with firestat always sounds exciting.

Liz:

All I do is hang upside down and play with fire.

Liz:

I don't know.

Diana:

Are you a bat?

Liz:

Liz?

Liz:

Bats don't play with a fire.

Liz:

Well, that's true, but I would like to see a bat that does.

Diana:

Okay.

Liz:

That would be adorable.

Diana:

That little fire eating bat.

Liz:

Fire eating bat.

Diana:

Halloween next year.

Liz:

Technically, I'm not being taught to fire eat.

Liz:

I'm only being taught to fire flow or whatever hippie that is.

Diana:

Fire dance.

Liz:

Well, it's fire flow is what they're calling it, but I really just feel like it's twirling around the fire.

Diana:

I mean, isn't it kind of is.

Liz:

Well, like weird.

Liz:

Last week we were learning to do jellyfishes, which are cool, but I'm not good at it.

Liz:

And it's basically you're making bubbles of fire and then you can make the fire like the bubble.

Liz:

Then you can use that to put it out.

Diana:

That's fun.

Liz:

It is, but I can't practice this at home.

Diana:

Very true.

Liz:

I can't get any better and it takes me a long time to learn things.

Diana:

You'll get there.

Diana:

Well.

Diana:

Do we want to talk about this episode?

Liz:

I can.

Diana:

Let's talk about your girl.

Liz:

Yeah, the thing is, it's like.

Liz:

Also, I'm kind of bummed because I spent a whole week doing like, I like this was going to be a lore and a more lore this week.

Liz:

And then I threw it all out like three hours ago after I wrote two scripts.

Diana:

No, to do something else.

Liz:

So you guys will never Hear about the nuns that went to the guillotine?

Liz:

I just think it was spooky enough.

Liz:

It was a bunch of.

Diana:

It was like.

Liz:

It was a bunch of nuns who died, but they, you know, they just, you know, martyred themselves.

Liz:

And it wasn't spooky.

Liz:

I mean, one of them came back as a ghost.

Liz:

So you gotta hear about something else instead.

Liz:

Sorry, you'll never know.

Liz:

Maybe one day it'll be a bonus episode or something.

Liz:

So this episode, though, is titled Mother's Little Helper.

Liz:

And also, I keep getting that song stuck in my head every time I look at the title of this.

Liz:

a Rolling Stone song from the:

Liz:

Mother's Little Helper is also a code word for Valium, because moms used to take it to deal with their children when that was okay to do.

Diana:

Oh, now they just drink a fuck ton of wine, right?

Liz:

Sure.

Liz:

Whatever mothers do.

Liz:

I don't know.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

No, that's like a whole thing, like this whole mom culture around it.

Diana:

Like mommy juice.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Anyways.

Liz:

Yeah, I think they got past that, though, right?

Diana:

Are we past that now?

Diana:

I think that was a Covid thing.

Diana:

I don't know.

Liz:

I think that was a Covid thing.

Liz:

I don't know what the moms are doing now.

Liz:

Probably just, like, snorting fentanyl or something.

Diana:

Oh, they're.

Diana:

They're going to.

Diana:

They're getting fancy, fancy sodas and.

Diana:

And iced teas, I think.

Liz:

Anyways, so this episode was Season 9, Episode 17.

Liz:

,:

Diana:

What?

Liz:

Yeah, this is Misha Collins, AKA Cassiel, if you don't know.

Liz:

And he's not in this episode.

Diana:

Right.

Liz:

So it was his first episode that he ever directed of the show, which I also think is interesting that his first episode, he was not in this.

Liz:

And it was written by Adam Glass.

Liz:

So in our recap, we start off, there's Henry, there's Abaddon, there's Crowley, there's odt Old donkey teeth.

Diana:

Oh, donkey teeth.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So we know this is going to be a very Men of Letters heavy episode.

Diana:

So likely we open in Milton, Illinois, and a dude is watching golf on tv.

Diana:

An ad for golf clubs and golf whatever on tv.

Liz:

Clearly, he is evil.

Diana:

Yeah, I don't trust this guy.

Diana:

And this woman, his woman, who assumed to be his wife, comes home with groceries and her own flowers.

Diana:

Apparently she's buying herself flowers and she's making meatloaf.

Diana:

For dinner again.

Diana:

And he's bitching about it.

Diana:

And she calmly says that he.

Diana:

She wishes that he wouldn't criticize her.

Diana:

And then she starts beating him in the fucking face with a candlestick holder.

Liz:

They were also having potatoes and broccoli.

Diana:

I mean, it sounds like a fine dinner to me.

Diana:

Sounds like a while back in my rotation.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Like, I'm gonna meatloaf in a minute.

Diana:

I'm ready.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

I'm not saying that you should, you know, mash them to death with a candlestick, but, you know, Misha Collins said in the audition, I asked if this actress had ever bludgeoned anyone before.

Liz:

She said she didn't want to talk about it.

Liz:

But when I asked if she never experimented with cannibalism, she was full of stories.

Diana:

Oh, okay.

Diana:

Well, she basically beats the fuck out of this guy as she describes this dinner menu.

Diana:

And we get blood splatter, and he dead.

Liz:

And we do also see these drawings.

Liz:

So we can.

Liz:

We, like, figure out, like, they look like teacher drawings.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

And not like they're her kid drawings.

Diana:

Right.

Diana:

There's drawings by young children all over the place to give you the feeling that this is wildly out of character for this woman.

Liz:

Yes.

Diana:

Back at the bunker, Dean is researching and living on whiskey and not sleeping and slamming books.

Liz:

I don't know if he's like, he's just throwing books around.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And Sam's like, well, I'm gonna drive because we need to go check out this first grade teacher who killed her husband.

Diana:

And Sam thinks it's a possession.

Diana:

And Dean's like, yeah, just go without me.

Diana:

We just, you know, and I just need to keep researching.

Diana:

He's just super obsessed with continuing to research to locate Abaddon also.

Diana:

What are they going to find?

Diana:

Like, are they trying to find in the book, like, where Abaddon, like, where her house is, like, how to summon her.

Diana:

Like, what are they researching so intently here?

Liz:

I don't know.

Liz:

I.

Liz:

I don't know what they think they're doing.

Diana:

Okay.

Diana:

I was just making sure.

Diana:

I'm like, the premise here is confusing to me.

Diana:

Like, I don't know, are her coordinates going to be there?

Diana:

Because she could move.

Liz:

I think they're just looking for information.

Diana:

About out her or maybe like, a.

Liz:

Secret to, like, take out a knight of hell.

Liz:

But they have the thing to take.

Diana:

Her out, so they just have to find her.

Liz:

I don't know.

Diana:

Well, Dean's just basically been totally obsessed with killing Abaddon and researching it since he killed Magnus.

Diana:

And Dean's just Like, yeah, it's like, my job, duh.

Diana:

I gotta kill her so that I can kill Crowley.

Diana:

And it sounds like it's fine.

Diana:

It's cool.

Diana:

I'm just checking in.

Diana:

But I'm gonna go check on this murder now.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So Sam goes on the road.

Liz:

So he takes baby.

Liz:

And he takes baby up to Milton Sheriff's office.

Liz:

And there we learned that the husband was not abusive and he did not smell sulfur.

Liz:

And her eyes looked like eyes.

Diana:

And they go to visit her, Karen, in her cell, and she dead.

Diana:

She hung herself and used her own, like, fingertip blood to write all over the walls.

Diana:

I'm gonna tell you, this is this.

Diana:

They're like, oh, I just got goosebumps again.

Diana:

It's so.

Liz:

See, you get goosebumps, and I just get angry at this prison system or this jailer.

Liz:

I'm like, what the were you doing leaving your inmate when they're so long without any sort of attention?

Liz:

This took time.

Liz:

This was not like a.

Liz:

I accidentally, like, didn't check on you for, like, a minute.

Liz:

And like, this.

Liz:

She wrote all over the walls with.

Diana:

Her blood from her own fingertips that she scraped off.

Diana:

It looks like.

Diana:

No, that's what gave me.

Liz:

You're bad.

Liz:

You're a bad institution.

Diana:

Well, either way, the sheriff's freaked out about it.

Diana:

Not that's okay.

Diana:

But he should be.

Diana:

So Sam calls Dean, and Dean looks like total.

Diana:

Like, Dean is not taking care of himself and.

Diana:

But he's trying to play cool and ask about Mrs.

Diana:

Manson and demons, blah, blah.

Diana:

And Sam's like, there's no signs of demons or ghosts, but if nothing kicks up here, it's just not a case.

Diana:

So I'm just gonna see what happens the next 24 hours or so.

Diana:

And Dean's like, cool, good luck.

Diana:

Bye.

Diana:

And hangs up as he finishes his bottle of whiskey.

Liz:

And he just keeps having flashbacks about odt.

Liz:

Is this his time with it and how much he misses it?

Diana:

Yeah, he's having definitely weird flashbacks about this blade.

Diana:

Odt.

Liz:

And he does pick up his phone and he calls somebody, but he hangs up after one ring.

Diana:

I've done that call right.

Diana:

He's a.

Liz:

Though it is.

Liz:

And we'll get you every time.

Liz:

Or the worst is, like, when I don't mean to call somebody, I'm not really, like.

Liz:

And I'm just like, accidentally hit a button.

Liz:

And then you're like, shit.

Liz:

And then they call you back, and they're like, what's wrong?

Liz:

You're like, well, I didn't know.

Liz:

I just hit the button.

Diana:

Well, and then.

Diana:

And then they're like.

Diana:

Do you mean that?

Diana:

Are you just saying that?

Liz:

They're like, no, I really didn't want to talk to you, but now that you're here.

Liz:

So we cut to a guy who is hitchhiking.

Liz:

It's not a good thing to do.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And we figure out this kid's kind.

Diana:

It's actually kind of a young kid.

Diana:

He's talking to his chick on the phone, and you can tell he's definitely young.

Diana:

He's like, going to play with my mom trying to get you, babe.

Diana:

And.

Liz:

But he's not that young.

Liz:

He's a teenage.

Diana:

Teenage.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Well, I mean, teenager.

Diana:

Probably got a fight with his mom and she wouldn't let him drive the car.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So.

Diana:

But a van pulls up and he is.

Diana:

As he tries to stick his thumb out to hitch a ride, which.

Diana:

Whatever.

Diana:

And it's the kid, the guy that was walking knows Mr.

Diana:

Richie.

Diana:

And he's like, oh, what are you doing?

Diana:

You know?

Diana:

And he's like, oh, get.

Diana:

He gets a ride.

Diana:

So in the van says Saint Bonaventure.

Diana:

Is that how you say it?

Liz:

Bonaventure.

Diana:

Bonaventure.

Liz:

I go with Bonaventure.

Diana:

Bonaventure.

Diana:

Boner adventure.

Liz:

Boner adventure.

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

Anyways.

Liz:

Adventure.

Diana:

This guy.

Diana:

All I know is that this kid goes in the back of the van with this dude, and he is very confused about what this guy's doing.

Diana:

And there's a flash of light.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

There's a struggle and a white light.

Liz:

But we actually don't know if he goes in the back with a dude.

Liz:

We just hear the struggle.

Liz:

Someone else can be pulling him back there.

Diana:

That's true.

Diana:

That's very true.

Diana:

So we go to the diner, and someone did.

Liz:

Maybe someone had a boner adventure.

Liz:

So now we go to a diner, and Sam is in there.

Liz:

And I'm so jealous because Texas hates diners.

Liz:

Or at least, like, where I live hates diners.

Liz:

And there's no diner around me, and I've been craving one.

Liz:

All we have, like, the closest thing I have is, like, a Denny's and an ihop.

Liz:

And that's not a diner.

Diana:

I shouldn't say that.

Diana:

I have two.

Liz:

I know.

Liz:

Dallas has good diners.

Diana:

A couple good ones.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

But Sam gets a salad at the diner, which.

Liz:

That's a Sam thing.

Diana:

I know, but.

Diana:

Man, at a diner.

Diana:

Oh.

Diana:

Anyways, you never know.

Liz:

It could be like a Cobb salad.

Liz:

Like a diner.

Liz:

Cobb salad.

Liz:

Or sometimes, like, they have that trio of, like, of the deli salads.

Liz:

Like.

Liz:

So it'll be like, a tuna and a chicken, and then, like, his third.

Liz:

Like, him.

Liz:

Maybe, like an egg salad, macaroni salad.

Diana:

There you go.

Diana:

There you go.

Diana:

Okay, I'm in.

Diana:

All right, good.

Diana:

Fair enough.

Diana:

You've turned me on the diner salad.

Diana:

Our hitchhiker, we find.

Diana:

His name is Bill or Billy.

Diana:

He comes in and he sits down at the bar and then looks at, like, the counter, not the bar, but sees a plate abandoned next to him and takes a handful of the rice and starts shoving it in his face.

Liz:

Oh, I thought it was mashed potatoes.

Diana:

Oh, that was rice.

Liz:

Okay, whatever.

Diana:

It's still food.

Diana:

That's hard to eat with your hands.

Liz:

On someone else's plate.

Diana:

Oh, yes.

Diana:

And the waitress scolds him, and so he fucking yells at her.

Diana:

And so Sam tells him to take it easy.

Diana:

And the waitress knows this kid's mom.

Diana:

She's like, what's going on?

Diana:

And so he takes.

Diana:

He does the most cat move ever, though, is all I could think of.

Diana:

I'm like.

Diana:

He's like a cat.

Diana:

He just, like, turns and, like, uses his hand to, like, knock a glass off the.

Diana:

Off the counter with his hand and just shatters on the floor while making.

Diana:

While maintaining eye contact with this waitress.

Liz:

I was like, that is.

Liz:

Yeah, I can see that.

Diana:

It was a cat movement anyway.

Diana:

And she's like, what's eating you?

Diana:

And he's like, you my mom?

Diana:

Him?

Diana:

I'm like, oh, Angus, 18.

Diana:

Okay, here we go.

Diana:

And she's like, yeah, I'm gonna call your mom.

Diana:

And then Billy puts a steak knife through her hand.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

And then Sam knocks him out.

Diana:

Yeah, Steak knife through her hand.

Diana:

He gets an elbow to the face.

Diana:

And there we go.

Diana:

Crazy.

Diana:

It's at the jail now.

Diana:

And Billy's still pissed.

Diana:

We got.

Diana:

Billy's pissed.

Diana:

This zoned out lady.

Diana:

This woman there.

Diana:

Or this man, like, using his bloody fingers to write on the walls more.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

And some dude with his forehead all bloody, banging his face on the bars.

Diana:

So we got, like, four people that are, like, not.

Diana:

Not doing so great in the jail now.

Diana:

And.

Diana:

Yeah, and, like, the sheriff's trying to, like, tell Sam.

Diana:

Like, Sam's like, what do they have in common?

Diana:

He's like, nothing.

Diana:

They're all, like, straight as arrows.

Diana:

I know that a van picked up Billy, but that's about it.

Diana:

And so while the sheriff has to step away to take a call, Sam's like, hey, Billy, I'm gonna throw this holy water on you.

Diana:

Oh.

Diana:

And he doesn't really react at all.

Diana:

He's annoyed, but that's it.

Liz:

He's clear.

Liz:

And he's a Scientologist.

Diana:

Clear.

Diana:

Yeah, he did that.

Diana:

He did the test.

Diana:

He had to pay a lot of money for that, but.

Diana:

And then he's clear of everything.

Diana:

And Sam wants to know why.

Diana:

And Billy's like, you think there's a why?

Diana:

So, anyways, in the meantime, the sheriff has gotten Sam surveillance from the grocery store where Karen was before she murdered her dude.

Diana:

So Dean call.

Diana:

Or Sam calls Dean and asks if he's working.

Diana:

And as.

Diana:

And Dean says, sure, sure.

Diana:

I'm totally researching, but he's definitely at the bar.

Diana:

And also, that background noise will be very evident, I think.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

But also would just not be surprising.

Diana:

No.

Diana:

So Sam's like, well, now we've got a handful of folks acting out.

Diana:

Acting aggressive and violent and impulsive and mean's like, oh, it sounds like a gold gym.

Diana:

And he's like.

Diana:

Sam's like, oh, less steroid, more basic instinct.

Diana:

But then Sam has a.

Diana:

Has a memory.

Diana:

He has this flashback of being soulless Sam.

Liz:

And he was so hot.

Liz:

He was so much more attractive, but he didn't have a soul.

Diana:

He was like, well, you weren't out of control now.

Diana:

And he's like, yeah, I.

Diana:

Everybody's different.

Diana:

And I could really use your help here, Dean.

Diana:

Dean, no, no.

Liz:

Working too hard to help him.

Diana:

He's getting too close.

Diana:

He's gonna.

Diana:

He's gonna figure it out.

Diana:

He's gonna solve it.

Diana:

But Dean's not alone at the bar.

Diana:

He's got company.

Liz:

Because Crowley is there.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

So there we go.

Diana:

Sam is watching the surveillance footage and sees Karen getting out of this van at the grocery store.

Diana:

So I don't know why she got in the van.

Diana:

But this woman without the grocery store that she normally goes to in her small town, and somehow they got her in and out of a van, and.

Liz:

Maybe they said there was, like, a kitten in there.

Diana:

Or goats.

Liz:

Yeah.

Diana:

Or candy.

Liz:

Yeah, there's a lot of reasons.

Liz:

I get in van.

Diana:

So while he's watching this, he overhears a woman at the desk telling the young deputy about demons and that it's happening again.

Diana:

And he is being very patronizing and dismissive of her.

Liz:

And she tells him, don't patronize me, you little turd.

Liz:

Yes, and becomes my hero for saying that to a sheriff's deputy.

Diana:

Well, Sam pulls her aside and gets her cup of tea and wants to hear what she has to say about demons.

Diana:

And she calls out that he does not even blink an eye when she says this.

Diana:

And he says that he's more open minded than most and she wants to know if he's one of the Men of Letters.

Diana:

What?

Diana:

How does she know about the Men of Letters?

Diana:

emembers them coming there in:

Diana:

Okay, then.

Liz:

're gonna have a flashback to:

Liz:

And this flashback is fine.

Liz:

I'm okay with this kind of flashback.

Liz:

This is all right.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Well, we've got a flashback to a nun, AKA Sister Julia, who is the young version of this.

Diana:

And polishing some silver.

Diana:

And she gets a knock at her door and it's Henry in a priest outfit and Josie dressed as a nun.

Liz:

Sexy.

Diana:

And he says they're from the Office of the Inquisition and they have a wax seal note that they have to take to Mother Superior.

Liz:

Yeah, that's a weird thing to say to somebody.

Diana:

It's very weird to say.

Diana:

And then.

Diana:

And then the Inquisition song starts going in my head.

Liz:

You just don't expect it.

Liz:

So then we cut to Crowley and who is who Dean called and hung up on earlier.

Diana:

Yep.

Diana:

And yeah, he and.

Diana:

And Crowley calls him out too.

Diana:

Like you're at the bar when you should be finding and killing Abaddon.

Diana:

She's probably not here.

Diana:

Hello.

Diana:

And Dean calls out that Dean is stalling.

Diana:

Wants to know how Dean felt holding ODT and killing Magnus because he thinks he felt powerful and afraid.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

So he chats him up about that.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

And we cut to.

Liz:

Do you think I'll say about that?

Diana:

No, go ahead.

Liz:

Then we cut back to my hero and Sam.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Julia is going to tell Sam all about Henry and Josie because he knew them.

Diana:

But it's complicated.

Diana:

And so, yeah, she's like, I'm an ex nun.

Diana:

Complicated is my middle name.

Diana:

So I love her.

Diana:

Yeah, she's pretty awesome.

Diana:

They basically, Henry and Josie were investigating Sister Mary Catherine who killed two people and then jumped from the bell tower.

Diana:

So she takes them to see Mother Superior and they her Mother Superior and this Sister Agnes read this letter and assign Julia to be their guide.

Diana:

And Josie gets real pissed because Julia is listening, deferring to Henry for all instructions.

Diana:

Because yes, the Catholic Church has a lot of patriarchal components, but either way.

Diana:

But what's really happening is we've got a little bit of a conversation between Josie and Henry about their lives outside of the Men of Letters because Henry's not thrilled about being out in the field.

Diana:

He thinks it's risky even though this is their last assignment between being coming full members.

Diana:

And wonders if he's being selfish because if Something happens to him.

Diana:

Then what happens to his son and his wife?

Diana:

And basically says, but you don't have that problem, Josie, because you don't have a family outside of here.

Diana:

Which is not very nice.

Diana:

And she is sad about it.

Diana:

So at Mary Catherine's quarters, we get to this room where there's blood stains over the wall.

Diana:

Where apparently she wrote all over the wall.

Diana:

And they couldn't clean it off.

Diana:

I.

Diana:

I have questions about the inability to clean blood suddenly, but I don't know, I feel like that should be.

Diana:

And are these nuns that busy?

Diana:

They couldn't like, get the blood off the wall?

Liz:

They said it wouldn't come off the wall.

Diana:

I guess paint over it.

Diana:

I don't know.

Liz:

Either way, it was wallpaper.

Diana:

Yeah, I don't know either way.

Diana:

Apparently there is a pre Enochian crest carved into this wall.

Liz:

The.

Liz:

Do you know what pre Enochian is?

Liz:

Pre Nokian isn't even a thing.

Diana:

Pre Enochian crest.

Diana:

That means knights of hell.

Liz:

And that means trouble.

Liz:

It starts with T and it rhymes with P and that.

Diana:

So apparently Julia wasn't allowed to leave a room after 10pm but she saw someone walk by her room in the hall that night.

Diana:

And she.

Diana:

She snuck out and sees this.

Liz:

She was reading her Bible in the cutest bonnet ever.

Liz:

It was just a cute little nun bonnet.

Liz:

Sleep.

Diana:

Yep.

Diana:

Yeah, that was good for her hair too.

Liz:

Yeah, I'm pretty sure.

Liz:

Like, she's not getting, you know, it's not any breakage.

Diana:

I know.

Diana:

Bonnets are like making like a big, like multicultural comeback right now.

Diana:

Kind of intrigued.

Diana:

Anyway, so Julia follows this nun.

Diana:

She's a.

Diana:

She's a possessed nun dragging someone up the stairs.

Diana:

But then she gets hit in the face and wakes up tied to a chair.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

Sister Agnes has knocked her out.

Liz:

And then she sees Sister Agnes coming and dragging a girl out.

Liz:

It's just crazy.

Diana:

And there's like five people in this room, like, tied up to chairs.

Diana:

And apparently there's.

Diana:

They're taking them one at a time into this other side room that is not very.

Diana:

Like the.

Diana:

The wood slats on this door are not very well made.

Diana:

There's a lot of light gap between them.

Diana:

But between.

Diana:

Because of that, you can see a bright light flash from this room.

Diana:

So Julia starts praying and God didn't answer, but Henry and Josie did is what she says.

Diana:

Because they bust in and they start throwing holy water and yelling exorcisms.

Diana:

Oh, and there's cock smoking out.

Diana:

Like it's a whole.

Diana:

It's a scene.

Liz:

Yep.

Liz:

But he tries it on the Mother Superior who just flings him and then makes a crack about Hunters being nosy.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And Josie's like, no, we're not Hunters, We're Men of Letters.

Diana:

And she's very impressed that there's a woman man of Letters now.

Liz:

So am I.

Liz:

Like, Josie's like the only one.

Liz:

You know, they're treating her like shit.

Liz:

They're already making her get coffee.

Liz:

Like she's having a bitch of a time.

Liz:

She's having to like, dress up like a nun and having these stupid little novice nuns who haven't even taken their fucking perpetual vows yet.

Liz:

Coming up.

Liz:

And like, not listening to her and deferring to fucking Henry.

Liz:

Like, what the hell?

Liz:

A lot of times reading about nuns speak, sorry.

Diana:

Oh, well, the Mother Superior is like, well, that's fine, whatever.

Diana:

I want to trade up to Henry's body from this old bag of bones.

Diana:

And Josie's like, no, no, no, no.

Diana:

Don't touch him.

Diana:

Take me instead.

Liz:

Why are there no anti possession charms in either of these two?

Diana:

I don't know.

Liz:

Why is that not the first thing Men of Letters do?

Diana:

I don't know.

Diana:

Because they don't go.

Diana:

They know about it.

Liz:

They're minute letters.

Diana:

Yeah, it's real weird.

Diana:

It's weird.

Diana:

And yeah, so.

Diana:

But Josie's like, no, I'll be more useful and leave him be.

Diana:

And Mother Spirit calls out that Josie's in love with Henry.

Liz:

Oh, yeah.

Diana:

Oh, indeed.

Diana:

She just wants to spare him.

Diana:

And nun's like, look, Abaddon takes what she wants.

Diana:

So you don't even have to offer yourself up.

Diana:

But whatever, I want everything.

Diana:

So she smokes out into Josie.

Liz:

She also tells Josie that Henry loves her, but loves her like a sister and it's a big burn.

Liz:

And when she smokes into Josie, her smoke is black.

Liz:

And.

Liz:

Yeah, wasn't it some point?

Liz:

Why isn't it red?

Liz:

I don't know.

Liz:

Like, I feel like her.

Liz:

What?

Liz:

I don't know.

Diana:

It was back in the.

Diana:

When they were doing the trials.

Diana:

I thought it was.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So I know Crow and Crowley sometimes is red.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

Sometimes he's not, but I don't know.

Liz:

Get your colors consistent.

Liz:

So anyway, she tells the cute, you know, the other nun to keep it going until she returns and to play dead.

Liz:

So this is where we were gonna talk about dead nuns, but we're not going to talk about them.

Liz:

We're gonna talk about something else that's more spooky.

Liz:

Because I wanted to and because I would just wanted it to be spookier because it's.

Diana:

Yep.

Liz:

So we're going to talk about Anna Eklund, and this is the.

Liz:

I think it's called the earling.

Liz:

Possession sometimes.

Liz:

But it is the story of Anna Eklund, AKA Emma Schmidt, who was possessed and exercised in a convent.

Liz:

So convent.

Liz:

There were nuns there.

Liz:

It works.

Liz:

rn in Marathon, Wisconsin, in:

Liz:

Her claims of possession first surfaced when she was 14, and she was repulsed by holy objects and having thoughts about unspeakable sex acts.

Liz:

The spirits tormented her every night from 12 to 3 by arousing her passions and tempting her to commit sin.

Liz:

For years, she saw these horrid figures, male and females, doing the most revolting acts of impurity before her eyes, arousing her passions and inciting her to sin.

Liz:

So if you're horny, you may be possessed.

Diana:

Okay.

Liz:

Theoretically, her real name may have been a Enoch Schmidt.

Liz:

That is debatable.

Liz:

I don't want to go into it.

Liz:

The pseudonym comes from Carl Vogel, who was a priest and a theologian.

Liz:

hlet titled Be gone, Satan in:

Liz:

And we'll get to back to him and we'll bit.

Liz:

inger, was born in Bavaria in:

Liz:

That's up the monkeys.

Liz:

That's the branch of the Franciscan order.

Liz:

fore moving to the Midwest in:

Liz:

The very same year, he would perform his first exorcism on Anna Eklund.

Liz:

And apparently his interest in exorcisms may have been why he was sent to Appleton, Wisconsin, because the church in New York had enough of his exorcism nonsense.

Liz:

Little was documented about this first exorcism, but it was supposedly successful for a little while.

Liz:

But then her father cursed her, or so it is said later by demons.

Liz:

By:

Liz:

She could not pray, take communion, or even pronounce the name of Christ.

Liz:

Doctors couldn't find anything physically or mentally wrong with her.

Liz:

And I don't know, those are the only sentences.

Liz:

I think she's still getting the horny things and some other stuff is going on.

Liz:

But like, I mean, those are only, like, the three things.

Liz:

Like, I mean, you can't pray.

Liz:

You can't take communion.

Liz:

You can't say Jesus.

Liz:

I mean, that's.

Liz:

Is that really going to interfere with their life too much and you can, you can go on.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

Just don't do those things.

Liz:

Anyways, so Father Theo feels like there's work.

Diana:

Feels like there's workarounds.

Liz:

I feel like there's workarounds.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

So the, the priest was approved by the bishops of Des Moines to exorcise her again.

Liz:

So that priest, Father Theophilus, was friends with The Monsignor of St.

Liz:

Joseph's Parish, Joseph Steiger, and he agreed to host the exorcism at the convent of the Franciscan sisters.

Liz:

Hopefully he worked there and wasn't just like, we can use their convent.

Liz:

They'll be fine with it.

Liz:

So Anna was brought there on August 18th.

Liz:

Someone sprinkled holy water on her food and she started hissing like a cat and wouldn't eat it.

Liz:

She also wouldn't eat blessed food.

Liz:

So clearly this is all starting off well.

Liz:

The next morning, the first of 23 days of exercising begins.

Liz:

As soon as the words of exorcism left the priest's mouth, Anna went unconscious, levitated and clung to the wall above the door.

Liz:

Is also said, like a cat, she's up there, like by her fingers.

Liz:

It's like, ah.

Liz:

And though she was unconscious, voices and howls could be heard coming out from her.

Liz:

Her health deteriorated during this 23 days of exercising.

Liz:

Well, duh, right?

Diana:

She's not eating.

Diana:

She's running around and hissing all the time.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

And like, love you.

Liz:

Levitating has got to be calorie burning.

Liz:

I don't know.

Liz:

Like, I'm assuming that's got to take a lot out of you, right?

Diana:

That sounds tiring.

Liz:

And since she's only drinking like small sips of water and milk, but she's still like vomiting up a bunch of and is supposedly foul smelling debris often resembling tobacco leaves.

Liz:

And look, as somebody who, like, I've.

Diana:

Thrown up a lot.

Liz:

And I'm just saying that.

Liz:

And I'm just like, did she, did she eat cigarettes or like smoke a lot?

Liz:

Because I'm kind of thinking that's what she did.

Liz:

I think she was secretly eating cigarettes and then that was making her puke because it would, it would definitely make you Dipping.

Liz:

She was dipping or like swallowing it.

Liz:

They also said her face swelled up and her eyes bulged and she could speak in a lot of different languages.

Liz:

And she delighted in telling the childhood sins of the exorcism participants, which I think is a fun game just because there's like at least nuns and priests around you.

Liz:

She's like, this is what you did as a kid and that Sounds like I would be like, do me next.

Liz:

Do me next.

Liz:

Tell me what I did.

Liz:

Then she also started saying some prophecies to Father Theophilus, who's taking this stuff kind of to his head.

Liz:

So remember, he really liked exercising things.

Liz:

So according to a:

Liz:

This was in Time magazine.

Diana:

Like, wait, what?

Liz:

Yep.

Liz:

So when the priest approached with a relic of the true cross concealed under his cassock, there were howls.

Liz:

I cannot bear that.

Liz:

Oh, it is tormenting.

Liz:

It is unbearable.

Liz:

She's 40.

Liz:

But, you know, whatever.

Liz:

The possessed recoiled at the mention of St.

Liz:

Michael the Archangel, protested at a relic of the little flower cried, that burns, that scorches.

Liz:

When holy water was sprinkled, a prayer to the to marry.

Liz:

The Immaculate Conception caused a bloating of the woman's body, which is just a mean trick.

Liz:

It's just me like, aha.

Liz:

Like, pray to Mary.

Liz:

And then just like, you're bloated.

Liz:

That's up, man.

Liz:

She mainly seemed to be possessed by Beelzebub, Jonas, Judas Iscariot, and the spirits of her father and his supposed mistress, her Aunt Nina.

Liz:

When he was the dad, it was often stuff about how he wanted to commit incest with his daughter.

Liz:

And since he couldn't do it on earth, he was going to get her to get her to kill herself to.

Liz:

And do it in hell.

Liz:

And that Beelzebub was okay with this plan.

Liz:

And there's a whole bunch of things that get said about this dad and incest in her.

Liz:

And so there.

Liz:

There are theories that that is something that may have happened to her as a girl.

Liz:

And this was like her acting it out or that she was just really up.

Liz:

So, all right.

Liz:

,:

Liz:

And she looked like she was about to levitate.

Liz:

And I think they're like, at this point, they knew like that was about to pop off and they're just like, no, get her.

Liz:

And so the nuns like strapped her down.

Liz:

And Father Theophilus roars, depart, ye fiends of hell.

Liz:

I don't know why he all of a sudden, he was German, not Irish, but be gone, Satan.

Liz:

I'm laughing because I've got a typo and it's a Santa.

Liz:

But because Satan, the line of Judah reigns.

Liz:

Anna fell on the bed as a terrible sh of Beelzebub, Judas, Jacob, Mina, followed by Hell, Hell, Hell, repeating until it faded off.

Liz:

Anna cried out, my Jesus mercy.

Liz:

Praise be Jesus Christ.

Liz:

And then they had to open up all the windows, because the room sank, and they're like.

Liz:

I said, it just smelled like sulfur.

Liz:

Like, when the devil departed, he just, like, let out a big fart.

Liz:

Like, oh, God, it's so bad.

Liz:

It's so bad.

Liz:

Open a window.

Diana:

Oh, no.

Liz:

But Also, I'm thinking 28 days of, like, a vomiting woman.

Liz:

Also, it's gonna be pretty rank.

Liz:

Like, there's no way that's gonna smell good.

Diana:

No.

Liz:

So most of that account is, according to the Begone Satan pamphlet, was circulated over 10,000 copies the first year was published.

Liz:

And Monsignor Sager, that friend of the priest who did it, who let them use a convent, he went to Germany and he told Vogel.

Liz:

So pretty much all the priests that are involved in this were German.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

And they think that there's a possibility that that's also how Anna, you know, Emma Schmidt met them.

Liz:

Right.

Liz:

Like that.

Liz:

It was all kind of like this German, like, world that kept together.

Liz:

And there's a second account by his associate, Frederick J.

Liz:

Bunse, and in that one said that the exorcism was not successful, and Anna was almost immediately possessed again.

Diana:

Like, repossessed.

Liz:

Like.

Diana:

Or like.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So that's what was going on with her.

Liz:

Like, so she was 14.

Liz:

She'd get exercise and then be free and then come back possessed again, possessed again, possessed again.

Liz:

Just like, you know, like.

Liz:

I don't want to say it.

Liz:

You say it.

Liz:

It's possession, Herpes.

Liz:

But, yeah, I don't want to say it, but I had to.

Liz:

But I couldn't think of another metaphor.

Liz:

But, you know, like, it just keeps coming back.

Liz:

And there wasn't, like, a Valtrex for it.

Liz:

So it's, you know.

Liz:

But so the price.

Diana:

I was trying to hold it back.

Liz:

So.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

But I also just think it's fascinating how well known this exorcism became.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

Yep.

Liz:

So that's the story of Anna in her inner wild and her possession and.

Diana:

Her possession beyond Satan.

Liz:

Beyond Satan.

Liz:

I'm sure in German, it sounded much more harsh.

Liz:

Oh, I bet I do find everything.

Diana:

Damn.

Liz:

It's probably, like, 9,000 letters.

Diana:

Right?

Diana:

And a lot of consonants.

Liz:

A lot of consonants.

Liz:

Well, so back to nuns and their possession.

Diana:

Now we know how and when Josie got possessed by Abaddon.

Diana:

That's what's, I think, a critical component of this story.

Diana:

So where we're at in the.

Diana:

In the episode.

Diana:

So she's gonna make eyeballs at Julia and then wake up Henry and be like, oh, look at this.

Diana:

We won.

Diana:

We stopped the demons.

Diana:

Ta da.

Liz:

So Henry's So stupid.

Liz:

I'm sorry.

Liz:

He's just so naive and dumb through all this.

Liz:

So she pretends they're successful and that whatever she was doing was at.

Liz:

So I'm just excited because I haven't read in my notes now.

Liz:

So the convent of Saint Bonaventure.

Liz:

That's how you say it.

Diana:

Bonaventure.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

And so in modern times, Sam's like, julia, what.

Diana:

What was.

Diana:

What was Abaddon like doing?

Diana:

And what was the name of this convent?

Diana:

Like, what's happening here?

Diana:

And so that's when she shares that information.

Diana:

But apparently it's on the outskirts of town and it's been closed for many years.

Diana:

Well, Dean and Crowley are still at the bar, because of course they are.

Diana:

And Crowley is still just like telehealth and a Dean calling him out for being scared, but he should look at the Mark of Cain as a gift.

Diana:

And Dean's like, I'm a hunter, not a killer like Kane.

Diana:

And Crowley's like, you met the guy, right, y'all?

Diana:

You saw how much alike you guys are, right?

Diana:

Okay, cool.

Diana:

But Crowley is going to take a break.

Diana:

Break and go water the lily.

Liz:

And my first thought is as old as, like, what?

Liz:

He pees?

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Wait, since when does.

Diana:

Since when does Crowley have to go pe.

Diana:

Demons pee.

Liz:

And.

Liz:

But then Dean's just having flashbacks of.

Diana:

ODT and you're no Good by Linda Ronstadt plays on the jukebox.

Diana:

And there's a guy sitting at the bar, a couple bar stools down that Dean notices, and he's got a rosary wrapped around his hand, and he's got a knife in his belt, and he is following Crowley to the bathroom.

Diana:

So Dean goes and stops him, introduces himself, because, you know, the Winchesters are famous, and everybody knows who Dean Winchester is and says he knows a hunter when he sees him, and that you don't stand a chance if you've never killed a demon.

Diana:

And if you try to go after this guy and you fail, which you will, he'll go after everybody in your family then.

Diana:

Everybody you know, and blah, blah, blah.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

So he gives this dude this condescending speech, and that makes himself out to be a hero and whatever.

Liz:

And the kid's like, okay, I won't do it.

Diana:

But also, wouldn't every other hunter we've ever met been like, the.

Diana:

Why are you protect.

Diana:

Why are you defending a demon, then?

Diana:

And this guy doesn't really ask many questions.

Diana:

So Dean tells Crowley, hey, we got to go, and goes outside.

Diana:

In the meantime, Sam has made it to this Convent.

Liz:

Yes.

Diana:

It sounds like somewhere Liz would go visit.

Diana:

Abandoned convent.

Diana:

And the van's outside, but Crowley comes outside the bar and meets up with Dean.

Diana:

And Dean's like that, you know, by the way, I know that demons don't pee.

Diana:

Oh, let's see.

Liz:

Yeah, everyone saw that.

Liz:

Okay.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

I was like, wait a minute.

Diana:

And he assumes that Carly was shooting up.

Diana:

And Crowley's like, yeah, I'm gonna embrace my addiction.

Diana:

And I've got, you know, just like.

Diana:

You know, just like, Dean's his own addict and got his own junkie for his odt.

Liz:

And he's just like, you just want to touch that precious again.

Diana:

Dean's like, no, I'm just all in on my one chance to kill Abdon.

Diana:

I'm gonna find her, and then you're gonna bring me the blade, and that's it.

Diana:

And he leaves.

Diana:

And then our fake hunter, Jake, walks up to Crowley and was like, oh, he was a plant all along.

Diana:

He did exactly what Crowley said he would.

Diana:

What Dean would do.

Diana:

And that is saved Crowley from this rando hunter.

Liz:

Because they're besties.

Diana:

For now.

Diana:

For now.

Diana:

But Sam has now entered this convent.

Diana:

I will say I appreciate having something other than a warehouse.

Diana:

So I'm not.

Liz:

It's dusty and full of crap.

Liz:

And I want to investigate the out of this place.

Diana:

And he finds this room that has rows of jars with glowing lights in them.

Diana:

And then he gets attacked.

Diana:

And then he's able to use the demon blade just in time on Mr.

Diana:

Richie.

Diana:

But there's someone else that attacks him, too.

Diana:

It's a nun.

Diana:

This is Agnes.

Diana:

Sister Agnes.

Liz:

Hey, Sister Agnes.

Liz:

You look good.

Diana:

Yeah, she's still.

Diana:

She's still kicking it, and she's got the blade, and she's like, yeah.

Diana:

These souls are precious, and they're fragile.

Diana:

If you break a jar, they're just gonna go home.

Diana:

So you can't with the jars.

Diana:

Let's get some good insight.

Liz:

No, thanks.

Liz:

Letting you know.

Liz:

Don't do that.

Diana:

Thank you for the intel.

Diana:

Oh.

Diana:

In case you're wondering, right.

Diana:

So Agnes has been continuing doing this despite, you know, while Abaddon's been gone.

Diana:

But she's like, yeah, it's even dirtier now because people don't just walk into a church looking, you know, for a religion anymore.

Diana:

I've got to go find people instead.

Diana:

And so she has to ride shotgun with a smelly handyman.

Diana:

That's how she describes it.

Diana:

But it's worth it because there.

Liz:

Smell that.

Liz:

Great.

Liz:

She's been dead for, like, she's in A rotting.

Liz:

How does a meat corpse not rot?

Liz:

I guess it's not a rotting meat corpse.

Liz:

I guess it's just a living.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

This is weird.

Liz:

It doesn't decompose, so.

Diana:

Yeah, but I don't know.

Liz:

I still don't think Sister Agnes smells good.

Liz:

I'm just saying, I'm.

Diana:

I would doubt it.

Diana:

Do demons care about the personal hygiene of their meat suit?

Liz:

I doubt it.

Liz:

No, I mean, she's living in abandoned convent.

Diana:

Yeah, I mean, like, is there water?

Liz:

How is she watching her habit?

Diana:

Well, she's saying that their soul stealing souls is winning and that Hell's crown is not gonna wait for these demons to pick a side.

Diana:

And if they can't, if Abaddon can't just win that way, she's going to force them.

Diana:

So she is turning souls into demons and making a demon army that is loyal to her.

Liz:

But they're not demons.

Liz:

She's making soulless people.

Diana:

Or she.

Diana:

Yeah, it's very confusing.

Liz:

I don't understand.

Liz:

She's.

Diana:

Or are they using the souls?

Diana:

But are they using the souls for something?

Liz:

No.

Liz:

I mean, unless the cells go to hell.

Liz:

Like she takes a soul to hell and then makes a.

Liz:

To a demon.

Diana:

That's.

Liz:

I don't know.

Liz:

This is not how you make demons.

Diana:

I was unclear.

Liz:

It's wrong.

Liz:

All of us, wrong.

Diana:

Sam mocks them and is like, that's gonna take you a couple million years, so whatever.

Diana:

But Agnes is like, what, you think I'm the only one?

Diana:

We've got factories spread out all over and victory is nigh.

Diana:

And they want Sam to be on their team.

Diana:

And their only recruitment is to rip his soul out of his body.

Diana:

So Sam's gonna start exercising her.

Diana:

But she chokes him so he can't talk.

Diana:

But Sam has the voice memo of the exorcism on his phone that he.

Liz:

Starts playing, which is about damn time.

Liz:

Yes.

Liz:

So smart.

Liz:

Please do that.

Diana:

Yes, I'm impressed.

Diana:

But.

Diana:

But it gets thrown out of reach.

Diana:

He throws out of reach.

Diana:

And then she crawls through it towards it and smashes it in a really fun way.

Liz:

Yeah, like there's lots of weird possession things like, coming.

Diana:

Like, face is flickering.

Diana:

I don't like it.

Liz:

I didn't think you would.

Liz:

I.

Liz:

Scary.

Liz:

It was scary.

Liz:

But I also had that kind of.

Liz:

I was watching that fast, so it was like, oh.

Diana:

Oh.

Diana:

I had to look extra creepy then that looks super creepy then.

Diana:

It was fun.

Diana:

But as she.

Diana:

Right.

Diana:

When she smashes the phone, Sam's able to stab her with the demon blade and starts Releasing the souls, and they fly out the window and go into the jail cell.

Diana:

And the Billy.

Diana:

Billy gets his first, and then he's watching.

Liz:

He just eats it.

Liz:

I don't know if I would just be, like, come into me giant soul light.

Liz:

I mean, would you feel connected to it?

Diana:

I think you would just know.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

I mean, I don't remember.

Diana:

I don't know.

Liz:

If I saw a giant light coming through.

Diana:

Through the window, coming towards your face, you wouldn't just go, ah.

Liz:

And like.

Diana:

No, no, no, no.

Liz:

I don't just open up, and I'm gonna stop this now.

Diana:

Okay.

Diana:

You didn't want to just.

Diana:

You didn't want to suck that bottle light down?

Liz:

No.

Liz:

We're moving on.

Liz:

Okay.

Diana:

All right.

Liz:

So the other souls are come flying into the cell.

Diana:

Back at the.

Diana:

In the parking lot of the sheriff's office, Sam goes up to Julia, or I guess wherever.

Diana:

Is that.

Diana:

Wherever they are.

Diana:

I kind of miss where they are.

Diana:

She's in a parking lot, and she's real cute.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

They're outside the sheriff's office, and she.

Diana:

He wants to ask her a question.

Diana:

She's real cute and acts like he's gonna ask her on a date, but really.

Diana:

Because she's awesome.

Diana:

But really, she just want.

Diana:

He wants to know from her, why didn't she warn Henry about Abaddon?

Diana:

And she says that she became a nun to help people, but she was not prepared or trained in her to act in the face of real evil and did not know what to do.

Diana:

So we get a flashback to when Josie is already possessed by Abaddon and Henry leave the convent.

Diana:

And she basically said, tells all of the nuns that they need to keep whatever happened there a secret, but really does, like, eyes on you.

Diana:

To Julia.

Diana:

So Julia, because of this, was so ashamed and upset.

Diana:

She left the convent because she felt like she betrayed the flock, God, and herself.

Diana:

And that is her greatest shame of her life.

Diana:

That's sad.

Liz:

That's sad.

Diana:

Poor Julia.

Diana:

And Sam's like, well, now you know, you've saved.

Diana:

You've saved lives.

Diana:

And so she leaves, or Sam leaves, and she's just looks.

Diana:

Watches him leave, looking very serious.

Diana:

d Josie are driving away in a:

Diana:

That is beautiful.

Liz:

And like that.

Liz:

Yeah, it's a good car.

Diana:

And she's asking Henry if he's okay, and he's like, you know what?

Diana:

I'm better.

Diana:

We saved lives.

Diana:

We made a difference.

Diana:

We have a.

Diana:

No, we've found a noble calling.

Diana:

There's risks, but it's foolish for Even doubting this.

Diana:

And this is.

Diana:

This is the right path.

Diana:

How about you?

Diana:

And she's like, I feel like a whole new person.

Liz:

I don't like it.

Liz:

I also don't like how high Henry is on this win.

Liz:

Like, because what the do you think you did, Henry?

Liz:

Like, you.

Liz:

You said a few words and you got knocked out.

Liz:

Like, it kind of looks like Josie did everything.

Diana:

I mean, he doesn't sounds like that, though.

Diana:

But she let him think that that was a Josie call, not an Abaddon call.

Liz:

Well, he still, like, was passed out when, like, most things were, like, happening.

Liz:

Like, tada.

Liz:

I woke up.

Liz:

And.

Diana:

And she's like, we did it.

Liz:

Okay.

Diana:

Yeah.

Diana:

Well, back in the bunker, Sam's grabbing a beer and Dean is researching still.

Diana:

And Sam's just like, you're right.

Diana:

We got to find Abbot on asap.

Diana:

They're mining souls to create an army.

Diana:

Let's go.

Liz:

And that's how it ends.

Diana:

That's it.

Liz:

And they're both like.

Liz:

But apparently both of them, like, are researching drunk.

Liz:

Now Sam's like, I gotta get a beer.

Liz:

Yeah, I gotta hide my whiskey league.

Liz:

I.

Liz:

I get it.

Liz:

It was no fun to research over, but.

Diana:

Well, I mean, at least Dean.

Diana:

At least Sam's grabbing a beer and not like, drinking a whole bottle.

Liz:

Bottle of whiskey from the bottle himself.

Diana:

Right?

Liz:

Man, his stomach.

Liz:

Oh, yeah.

Liz:

His chips.

Diana:

Never mind.

Diana:

So not good.

Liz:

It's so not good.

Diana:

So not good.

Liz:

Oh, I don't want to think about the Winchester stomach.

Liz:

Okay, so tell me about, like, some.

Liz:

Some actors and citizens.

Diana:

Sure.

Diana:

Yeah.

Announcer:

Casting couch.

Liz:

It's the casting couch.

Announcer:

Liz:

Diana:

Sorry.

Diana:

Sister Agnes was played by Patricia Harris.

Diana:

She's been in episodes of:

Diana:

And then she was a zombie in Linea.

Diana:

Quigley's Horror workout.

Diana:

Because apparently Linnea Quigley had a horror workout video.

Diana:

Anyways.

Diana:

And then she was a.

Diana:

Had a small wife as a NASA wife in Mission to Mars and was the receptionist for the Fab Four in Fantastic Four, Rise of the Silver Surfer.

Diana:

Mother Superior was played by Marilyn Norrie.

Diana:

She's been in episodes of X Files, Tin Man, Battlestar Galactica a handful, a half dozen Times, Smallville Fringe, iZombie, Travelers, Altered Carbon a few times, Siren a handful of times, Big Sky, Nancy Drew and Resident Alien.

Diana:

She was also a.

Diana:

She had a part in Neverending Story 3.

Diana:

She was another NASA wife in Mission to Mars.

Diana:

Kind of interesting.

Diana:

She was Maria Rose in the Exorcism of Emily Rose, Jonah's mom in Jennifer's Body.

Diana:

She had a small role in that movie Horns and another small role in the movie bfg.

Diana:

Our sheriff was played by Kurt Max Runt, and he's been in episodes of X Files, Smallville Fringe, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as Mr.

Diana:

Kemper and I Zombie a couple times.

Diana:

He was a general or, I'm sorry, German delegate in Josie and the Pussycats.

Diana:

The chief of staff at X Men 2.

Diana:

Nicholas in Electra, he was in Aliens vs Predator Requiem, had a small role in the Day the Earth Stood still and in Underworld, Underworld Awakening.

Diana:

And then Billy was played by Kurt Austland and he was an episode of 100.

Diana:

But also most recently a reoccurring character called Strong Boy in the Snowpiercer series.

Liz:

I have no idea.

Liz:

The Snowpiercer series is.

Diana:

Oh, it's a sci Fi thing.

Liz:

Okay.

Diana:

I don't think it's on Sci Fi Network, to be clear, but it's a science fiction series.

Diana:

Like they're all like on a train or something.

Diana:

Cool.

Diana:

But yeah, there we go.

Diana:

Some interesting ones.

Diana:

They're a big cast, but those are.

Diana:

Those are critical ones.

Diana:

So.

Liz:

So what'd you think?

Diana:

Other than I was irritated with some of the.

Diana:

The like the.

Diana:

Probably a better word, the canon flubs, I would say that seem like incon.

Diana:

Canon inconsistencies.

Diana:

How about that?

Diana:

Other than that, I thought it was a scary episode, but it was a fun one.

Diana:

But I also thought it was really important to give us that backstory of how the Josie ended up with Abaddon in her.

Diana:

Yeah, I mean, it's feels relevant kind of.

Liz:

I mean, I don't think it really matters in the long run.

Liz:

I mean, she was a woman in the 50s and, you know, that's just how she got her meat suit.

Diana:

Well, I just didn't know if it would Be more important later.

Diana:

I was like, oh, I bet this is critical.

Diana:

So now I'm like, never mind.

Liz:

No, but, like, some sort of relevance to it in the future.

Diana:

But I also know how much you love a.

Diana:

An ABADDON episode, and so I thought you would enjoy that.

Liz:

She looks really good as a nun.

Diana:

She does.

Diana:

She.

Diana:

She's just a very.

Diana:

It's a.

Diana:

She's such a beautiful woman.

Liz:

This is nice to like.

Liz:

Like, have a habit just around your face.

Liz:

Not have to worry about your hair.

Liz:

That would be so convenient just to be like.

Liz:

Must be the only thing you see.

Liz:

And she had full face on, too.

Liz:

Like, most nuns are not wearing full face.

Diana:

Full face.

Diana:

No, no, she's just.

Diana:

And she's also just a very, very pretty woman.

Diana:

But, yeah, no, I thought it was a fun.

Diana:

Fun's not the right word.

Diana:

I probably.

Diana:

I got a little, like.

Diana:

I found, like.

Diana:

I find, like, the.

Diana:

The Dean situation distressing, which I think is probably not shocking, and I'm sure it's supposed to be slightly distressing.

Diana:

Julia was a bad.

Diana:

So that was helpful.

Liz:

Yeah, no, I appreciated Julia and Sam.

Liz:

I thought, you know, I would watch the Julia and Sam show.

Diana:

That'd be fun.

Liz:

Yeah.

Liz:

They should go off and investigate together.

Diana:

I agree.

Liz:

That's our new spin off that you guys should have gone with.

Liz:

I don't know why you tried all these other ones, but.

Diana:

Hello.

Liz:

Julia going out investigating crimes.

Liz:

It's a new thing.

Diana:

And her just being snarky.

Diana:

It's greatness.

Liz:

But Sam, like, secretly falls in love with her, but she's like, no, Sam, not dating you.

Liz:

65 guys under 65 are dumb.

Liz:

And she's just calling her very little turds.

Liz:

The only woman I would.

Liz:

I would.

Liz:

I think it's okay for.

Liz:

To use that language.

Diana:

Yeah.

Liz:

All right.

Liz:

Anything else?

Diana:

No, that's all I got.

Liz:

All right.

Liz:

Cheers, church.

Diana:

Cheers, pitch.

Liz:
