Speaker A:

On this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast, we will observe the species douchebaggerous in the wild.

Speaker B:

And is this entire episode an illusion?

Speaker B:

Welcome to this week's episode of Devil's Trap podcast.

Speaker B:

I'm Diana.

Speaker A:

I'm Liz.

Speaker A:

Sorry, my nose is in a book.

Speaker A:

And that's not really that.

Speaker A:

That odd.

Speaker A:

And I was looking for something and I was like, oh, I have to say something now.

Speaker A:

Hey, what's up?

Speaker B:

We're gonna talk about season four, episode 12, Criss angel is a douchebag.

Speaker A:

It is.

Speaker A:

Well, yeah, that is the episode we're talking about, and he is.

Speaker A:

And yeah, that's a good episode.

Speaker A:

I'm excited about it.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Before we get into all of that, what have you been up to?

Speaker B:

Oh, we've, you know, we had a fun time with family last week.

Speaker B:

We took my mom for her first tattoo because she had a milestone birthday recently, and she said that's what she wanted, so that's what we did.

Speaker B:

And it was super fun experience.

Speaker B:

And yay.

Speaker B:

It was cool.

Speaker B:

And then saw our friends the 40 acre mule play.

Speaker B:

And other than that, got a nice little lot of work done around the house as we've been getting things put back together to get ready for summer, you know, yay, homeowner show.

Speaker B:

It's expensive and stupid, but, yeah, but.

Speaker A:

It's the American dream.

Speaker B:

Most of the time, I'm quite happy about it.

Speaker B:

It's just right now it's been a little stressful lately.

Speaker A:

Thanks.

Speaker B:

And then honestly, like, so, you know,.

Speaker A:

On Diana's HGTV show, which is like, airing after my haunted house Hunters, like, I kept trying to combine the two, but anyways, it's very smart that they did all their renovations at one time because it was a pain in the ass.

Speaker A:

But at least you got everything done, so at least, like, the summer is going to be here and you can just relax and enjoy your outdoor space, which looks amazing.

Speaker A:

And I'm very jealous and very angry that we live so far apart.

Speaker A:

So I can't just be at your pool every weekend.

Speaker A:

Very nice.

Speaker A:

But it's also pretty good for our livers that we.

Speaker A:

We live far apart because we would drink a lot.

Speaker A:

We.

Speaker A:

We would.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

It probably.

Speaker A:

There'd be a lot of bad decisions.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

But, well, you'll have to come visit and check it out soon anyways.

Speaker B:

But.

Speaker B:

But yeah, in person, at least.

Speaker B:

But yes.

Speaker B:

So that's that excitement.

Speaker B:

And I'm on the, you know, looking forward to activity field weekend coming up.

Speaker B:

I'll report Back.

Speaker B:

But I'm going to see Mean Girls Live, the Broadway play, this week, as well as going to Scarborough Fair, the Renaissance Fair.

Speaker A:

And yeah, to be fair, like, I quoted Mean Girls on a webinar about cybersecurity, so.

Speaker A:

And it actually wasn't mine.

Speaker A:

It was one of my friends.

Speaker A:

But I did use there.

Speaker A:

What was it?

Speaker A:

There is no limit that.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

The limit does not exist.

Speaker A:

The limit does not exist.

Speaker A:

The limit does not exist.

Speaker A:

So, I mean, yeah, I mean, Mean Girls is part of our everyday language and quotations, and it was honestly probably one of the best films of the 20, you know, of the past.

Speaker B:

Like, for sure.

Speaker A:

It was time.

Speaker B:

Yeah, definitely for sure.

Speaker B:

So it's super, super quotable.

Speaker B:

And it's one.

Speaker B:

It's a favorite.

Speaker B:

So I'm pretty excited.

Speaker B:

My sister and I are doing that and then, like I said, going to Scarborough Fair Renaissance Festival.

Speaker B:

So that'll be fun.

Speaker B:

It'll be hot.

Speaker B:

And then happy early Mother's Day to anybody.

Speaker B:

Or I guess it'll be Mother's Day soon.

Speaker A:

Yeah, Happy early Mother's Day.

Speaker A:

My mother, she does not know what a podcast is.

Speaker A:

I tried to explain to her a lot about what that.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it doesn't.

Speaker B:

I just.

Speaker B:

It's talk radio, but you listen to it whenever you want.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

You know, and it just, like, I can't explain to her or my father what I do for.

Speaker A:

For work.

Speaker A:

I mean, honestly, I can't even.

Speaker A:

I think I.

Speaker A:

That to somebody today.

Speaker A:

I'm like, I don't know what my job is.

Speaker A:

And, like, I'm just going to keep showing up and, like, doing whatever I want until somebody tells me not to or they fix the glitch.

Speaker A:

So whatever.

Speaker A:

Yeah, so I did absolutely nothing last weekend, except I did watch all three Pitch Perfects in a row.

Speaker B:

That was really.

Speaker B:

That gold star.

Speaker A:

Gold star.

Speaker A:

And then it was listening.

Speaker A:

They're comparing them, like, well, was Pitch Perfect one better than two or three?

Speaker B:

III cannot be in that list of which ones.

Speaker A:

No, but, like, two, I think, is where they got a little quirk and.

Speaker A:

But there was definitely, like, John Lithgow is in three.

Speaker A:

He's pretty great in that.

Speaker A:

And Rebel Wilson's, like, really shining.

Speaker A:

And, like, we are getting, like, the really absurd level in there.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

I think that's where last episode.

Speaker B:

Yeah, this is not a Pitch Perfect review show.

Speaker B:

We promise.

Speaker A:

Yeah, we promise.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, so I did that in some laundry and did really focus on not speaking to anybody because I needed some quiet downtime.

Speaker A:

And now this week is on, off and running.

Speaker A:

I Can't believe it's like only Tuesday.

Speaker A:

It feels like it's Friday.

Speaker A:

I'm like, how.

Speaker A:

How is this only.

Speaker B:

What day is it?

Speaker A:

What day of this?

Speaker A:

What's going on?

Speaker A:

But tomorrow we have a focus day at work, which is great.

Speaker A:

This is when companies decide to have their.

Speaker A:

Their.

Speaker A:

Their employees not have meetings.

Speaker B:

Right, Right.

Speaker B:

Yeah, they do that with somebody else.

Speaker B:

My babe's babe's office does that.

Speaker B:

But then they always book meetings.

Speaker A:

Exactly.

Speaker A:

Because everybody knows your is free because you're not supposed to have any meetings.

Speaker A:

So they're like, oh, we can leverage this time to.

Speaker A:

I'm like, that's still a meeting.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, I've got that tomorrow.

Speaker A:

But I do have some extra time, so I may, like, go focus some self care somewhere or something.

Speaker A:

And then Thursday, I start trapeze, and I am looking forward to falling as comically as I can.

Speaker A:

Like, that's just my.

Speaker A:

Like, if I could just make each time I hit the mat funnier than the last time, I feel like I will.

Speaker A:

Have you got my money's worth Out.

Speaker A:

Out of it.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, so this episode kind of runs along.

Speaker A:

I could see trapeze coming to this episode a bit maybe.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

So what are you drinking?

Speaker A:

Oh, what am I drinking?

Speaker A:

I am drinking a Dark and Stormy.

Speaker A:

I opened the Chupacabra rum from high and then mix that with some ginger beer and some lime.

Speaker B:

Nice, Nice.

Speaker B:

I've got a Coleman aluve wine this evening.

Speaker B:

Aloove.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Wow.

Speaker A:

I get the weirdest triple chen when I do that French thing like that.

Speaker A:

I'm no longer doing a French voice, so that is just unattractive.

Speaker A:

All right, so Chris angel is a douchebag.

Speaker A:

I literally will be talking with my hand, like, right here, and I just have your hand on your chin, so I don't.

Speaker A:

I can't look at it.

Speaker A:

All right, so obviously we all know.

Speaker A:

I hopefully all know who Criss angel is.

Speaker A:

This episode, I want to start off talking about the title.

Speaker A:

So executive story editor Julie Siege said that she was surprised we didn't get hassled by Standards and Practices or clearances over the title.

Speaker A:

I did get a memo from Standards and Practices on that episode, but it said something to the effect of.

Speaker A:

We understand that for the purposes of this episode, the use of the phrase douchebag is necessary.

Speaker A:

We just ask that in future episodes, you refrain from ever using it again.

Speaker A:

So, yeah, I just thought that was an interesting thing.

Speaker B:

Ever again.

Speaker B:

It's a bold request.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I don't think they adhere to that, I'm pretty sure Douchebag comes up and at least we're.

Speaker A:

Doucha is pretty sure, maybe just not in a title.

Speaker A:

And also, Criss angel has sadly never commented on the title of this because he's a douchebag.

Speaker A:

So this was season four, episode 12.

Speaker A:

,:

Speaker A:

It's the Great Pumpkin Sandwichester.

Speaker A:

So we could see some of that style kind of, like, come through here.

Speaker A:

I like it when you can kind of like, pick out, like, the Right.

Speaker A:

The author's, like, kind of like, oh, their vibe.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

All right, well, we kick off at Iowa Magic Week watching a street magician outside, and we cut quickly inside to a hotel bar, and there's.

Speaker A:

I'm sorry, you're just skipping past all the good things.

Speaker A:

There's a lot of good stuff that's happening outside.

Speaker A:

First off, the sign said that Iowa celebrates Magic Week.

Speaker A:

Welcome the International association of Magicians.

Speaker A:

So that's not real, but there is the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and it is their 100th anniversary this year, and the convention is going to be in Atlanta in July, and David Copperfield is headlining.

Speaker A:

So at some point today, I went down, like, a very long, long rabbit hole of looking to see what they're.

Speaker A:

They're like.

Speaker A:

I was like, what the fuck happens?

Speaker A:

At, like, a magic conference?

Speaker A:

And it actually did not look that interesting, but some of the magicians attending did.

Speaker A:

But apparently Copperfield sold out.

Speaker A:

So if you wanted to go, you can't see David Copperfield anyways.

Speaker A:

All right, so in Sioux City, Iowa, which is very important part of Iowa.

Speaker A:

Sorry, if you live in Sioux City, it's really boring, which is probably why these guys are drinking in a bar.

Speaker A:

All right, so now we're at the bar.

Speaker B:

All right, so now we're in the hotel bar, and there is an older gentleman kind of fumbling a tiny bit, but doing card tricks for the bartender.

Speaker B:

And it's referenced.

Speaker B:

His name is the Incredible J.

Speaker B:

There's another magician who's just, like, mocking him.

Speaker B:

This guy's just, like, a drunk fucking asshole.

Speaker B:

Like, I.

Speaker B:

So obnoxious.

Speaker B:

And the woman with him tells him to not be a jerk, and he's all like, just tell it.

Speaker B:

Trying to give away the trick.

Speaker B:

Like, check his pockets and just comes out, decides to come around to hit this guy's side of the bar, sit by him, and ruin the fucking trick like an asshole.

Speaker A:

What's the Diana?

Speaker A:

It's a rule, man.

Speaker B:

Don't be a dick.

Speaker A:

Don't be a dick.

Speaker B:

Don't be a dick.

Speaker A:

Don't be a dick.

Speaker B:

And so then the bartender adds a little bit of insult here when she says, what do you think she's gonna be defending him?

Speaker B:

The poor, incredible Jay saying, why are you so mean?

Speaker B:

But then follows up with, can't you just leave the old guy alone?

Speaker A:

Ouch.

Speaker A:

I don't think she did like.

Speaker A:

That was definitely just like a foot and mouth type thing.

Speaker A:

But it was like, oh, poor Jay, man.

Speaker A:

And who is Jay?

Speaker A:

Because he looks really familiar.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker B:

Would you like to know who is playing the incredible Jay?

Speaker B:

I do.

Speaker B:

This is Barry Bostwick.

Speaker B:

One of his best known roles is Brad Majors in the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Speaker A:

That's right, It's Brad.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

He's also been in, like, a million fucking TV shows.

Speaker B:

Like, I don't even.

Speaker B:

Like the list was too long.

Speaker B:

He was the narrator of Three From Hell by Rob Zombie, the Rob Zombie film.

Speaker B:

And he also is in a film that I stumbled upon that I sent Liz the trailer to that neither of us have seen or heard of, called fdr.

Speaker B:

American Badass.

Speaker B:

And he does play FDR in it.

Speaker B:

And it looks fucking terrible.

Speaker B:

And I still kind of want to watch it.

Speaker B:

That's what I.

Speaker A:

We, like, we literally, both of us kind of went back and forth like, would you watch this?

Speaker A:

Like, I don't know.

Speaker A:

And I'm like, can I smoke that much weed to make this palatable?

Speaker A:

I'm like, I don't know if that is actually possible.

Speaker A:

Everyone go look at the trailer for that.

Speaker A:

I'll drop it in the show notes and make your own decision.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Would you watch that because.

Speaker B:

Oh, it looks.

Speaker B:

It looks bad.

Speaker B:

It looks kind of entertaining.

Speaker B:

Bad, though, right?

Speaker A:

Yeah, I know.

Speaker A:

I love bad.

Speaker A:

Like, I look bad bad, but I don't know.

Speaker A:

But I just.

Speaker A:

I love Barry Boss.

Speaker A:

Like, he's.

Speaker A:

I adore him.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

All right, so here we go.

Speaker B:

We cut to a theater magic show rehearsal because it's not actually the show happening.

Speaker B:

There's not any spectators there.

Speaker B:

And we see a guy that looks a lot like a knockoff Criss angel get lowered down onto the stage.

Speaker B:

He's got no shirt, and there's fire and blah, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker B:

And we see these older guys in the audience.

Speaker B:

There's two that we hadn't seen before as we find their names are Vernon and Charlie.

Speaker B:

I went ahead and put them because it's just real fucking confusing to describe if you don't know who the hell.

Speaker A:

These guys are the old guy with the glasses?

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And did you notice something playing in the background?

Speaker B:

No.

Speaker A:

Okay, so this, like, what's playing in the background, like, basically think of it as Jeb's theme music, is actually a song that is.

Speaker A:

Shit.

Speaker A:

I just lost the name of it.

Speaker A:

Crap.

Speaker A:

But basically, I think the name of the song is, like, Criss angel is a douchebag or something like that.

Speaker A:

But it's written by.

Speaker A:

No, no, it is I am the douchebag.

Speaker A:

I have it.

Speaker A:

The title of the song is I am the Douchebag, and it was written by Christopher Lernertz and Steve Frank.

Speaker A:

Whoa, man.

Speaker A:

You've got a name.

Speaker A:

Frank Adakis.

Speaker A:

Good on you, man.

Speaker A:

Good on you for Steve.

Speaker A:

And so Christopher Leonard, the composer, said, you know, talking about how much fun they had recording it, and he was like, it was so cheesy, and it was fantastic.

Speaker A:

Just to be silly, really low and deep in the background, which you can hear if you listen closely.

Speaker A:

We're going douche back, douche, douchebag, douchebag.

Speaker A:

Which is just fucking hilarious.

Speaker B:

It is.

Speaker A:

And, yeah, so.

Speaker A:

And you'll hear that song go through, and you look it up on YouTube.

Speaker A:

Diana.

Speaker A:

And they, like.

Speaker A:

Like everyone from the Supernatural family, the fan club has just made some fun things for it, but it really is fitting.

Speaker A:

And it's like, yeah, you know, it kind of sounds like what Criss Angel's theme song would be.

Speaker A:

All right, so.

Speaker B:

So we've got Vernon, Charlie, and Incredible Jay all watching this rehearsal, right?

Speaker B:

And they seem fairly unimpressed.

Speaker B:

They're talking shit.

Speaker B:

They're like.

Speaker B:

It's kind of wearing eyeliner, and, hey,.

Speaker A:

Man, eyeliner is fucking hot.

Speaker A:

And, like, it was like, sometimes.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

No, sometimes it's hilarious.

Speaker A:

But, like, some guys can pull it off.

Speaker A:

Like, Neck Nest can pull it off.

Speaker A:

Robert Smith.

Speaker A:

Like, there's a number of guys that look really hot at.

Speaker A:

At times with their guyliner, but I think that of these guys is, like, Statler and Waldorf very much.

Speaker B:

And so, like, and they got that timing a bit.

Speaker B:

Little bit too.

Speaker B:

Kind of just back and forth.

Speaker B:

And that's actually really good comparison.

Speaker B:

So they kind of do that throughout the episode, but the guy on stage is just being a fucking dick, like, prima donna douchebag.

Speaker B:

Fitting.

Speaker B:

And they all start calling him a douchebag, which is funny.

Speaker B:

And then they're like, you know, they're talking about how, you know, misdirection versus skill.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

And j.

Speaker B:

Just like, you know what?

Speaker A:

Let's.

Speaker B:

Let's.

Speaker B:

We're all just Being bitter old men, talking about the glory days, and we're all just a joke.

Speaker B:

Now, that guy might be a douchebag, but he's on the main stage.

Speaker A:

And you know, he's not wrong.

Speaker A:

You know, is there's something to be said that.

Speaker A:

And granted, yes, douchebag.

Speaker A:

But also, like, are you just making fun of this guy to make yourself feel better?

Speaker A:

But also, he is highly mockable.

Speaker A:

So I.

Speaker A:

If Diane and I were sitting in the theater, we'd be talking shit.

Speaker A:

We would be mocking him.

Speaker B:

We might enjoy the show still.

Speaker B:

But we would be talking shit.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And we would probably be talking shit during the show while having a blast.

Speaker A:

And talking shit would be half of it.

Speaker A:

So I kind of see both sides of the stories here.

Speaker B:

Yep.

Speaker B:

And Jay announces, though, as he is departing, that he's going to do the Table of Death, even though he almost died last time.

Speaker A:

Dun, dun, dun.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

So this is actually a real magic trick.

Speaker A:

So according to Illusionpedia, which is.

Speaker A:

Isn't that a great name for a.

Speaker A:

Just like, there wasn't as much illusions I wanted was like, ooh, illusion.

Speaker A:

PD The Table of Death is a predicament.

Speaker A:

I just like their terminology is a predicament escape.

Speaker A:

That is alternately considered as falling into the categories as a magic trick or an act of escape.

Speaker A:

Ology.

Speaker A:

Isn't that a good word?

Speaker A:

Escapology.

Speaker A:

And so the basic.

Speaker A:

Yeah, the basic premise is you're going to.

Speaker A:

You're going to be on the table and then something either like spikes or swords are going to fall down on you.

Speaker A:

And interestingly enough, like, it is one people they thought created it was Andrew Andre Coley or Cole, I guess, and he sued the Mass Magician series.

Speaker A:

Remember that?

Speaker A:

And there is a series on Fox like it had this where they're like, we're going to show you all the magic tricks.

Speaker A:

And like the guy remember that out of like the IBM booted him out, probably, but he actually sued them for that and saying that they were giving away his tricks.

Speaker A:

back to as early as like the:

Speaker A:

But so, yeah, at least the:

Speaker A:

But I just think it's neat that they used a real trick.

Speaker A:

And we're going to see that a lot throughout this episode.

Speaker A:

A lot of the things we're going to see, like the posters and all of that, those are actually real magic posters like, that were like, available in public domain and they just like put different people's Pictures.

Speaker B:

Cool.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I like that.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So we see we're now cutting to a much smaller performance space than the douchebag was on, where the incredible J is going to do his performance, which is not an illusion, where we see him being clamped to his table of death by Charlie.

Speaker B:

And they close the certain curtains all around him.

Speaker B:

There's swords dangling above him on this table.

Speaker B:

And Vernon and Charlie are just kind of shaking their heads, watching.

Speaker B:

And the lights counts down.

Speaker B:

He's got a minute to do this escape as before.

Speaker B:

The rope burns through and drops the swords through his body.

Speaker B:

And we see a cut right now where we cut away to the guy who is a dick at the bar.

Speaker B:

We find out his name is Vance.

Speaker B:

Is.

Speaker B:

What he.

Speaker A:

Of course his name is Vance.

Speaker B:

Like, he's.

Speaker A:

No, he's a fucking Vance.

Speaker A:

Like, ugh.

Speaker B:

And you can tell he's had a few beverages and the girl that was with him earlier is still there, and she tells him that his show is in an hour and he better be there.

Speaker B:

Basically, we cut back to Jay.

Speaker B:

Jay is struggling a bit on the table of death, but we've got a cool shot of his silhouette struggling on the table.

Speaker B:

And the rope burns through and the swords fall.

Speaker B:

And this, they do a really good job on, like, kind of making you jump here, which I know, obviously, tv, blah, blah, blah, but you kind of jump.

Speaker B:

And I've literally got oh, no.

Speaker B:

Written down on my paper.

Speaker B:

Oh, no.

Speaker A:

But also, like, right before this, like, his friends don't believe he can do this.

Speaker A:

Like, they're just, like, Vernon's, like, crossing himself and, you know, like.

Speaker A:

And Charlie's just like, I don't know.

Speaker A:

Like, I don't want to watch this.

Speaker A:

Like, yeah, that's not a good sign.

Speaker B:

No, no, no, no.

Speaker B:

And they're not.

Speaker B:

They're letting him do it.

Speaker B:

And they're not, like, walking out on him.

Speaker B:

But they're also, like.

Speaker B:

Not exactly.

Speaker B:

Like,.

Speaker A:

They're holding his beer, but, like,.

Speaker B:

Not in a good way.

Speaker B:

So we cut back to Vance, and Vance is standing on the street and grabs his chest real hard.

Speaker B:

Like, real.

Speaker B:

Like, intensely.

Speaker B:

Like something's wrong.

Speaker B:

We cut back to Jay's performance.

Speaker B:

The curtain's open, and Jay is all right.

Speaker B:

He's standing up.

Speaker B:

Not a wound on him.

Speaker B:

Ooh.

Speaker B:

The crowd is very impressed.

Speaker B:

And funny enough, both Jay and even Charlie look surprised.

Speaker A:

Yeah, Jay looks confused.

Speaker A:

Charlie looks stressed, Right?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

But then we get another shot.

Speaker B:

We cut back to Vance, who is laying on the ground bleeding in the array of slices on his body that are arranged just like the swords were what?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So was this me or was this a very long cold opener?

Speaker B:

Extremely long.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And I was like.

Speaker A:

And like it was five and a half minutes long.

Speaker A:

Which I guess, you know, I guess they're probably typically like two to three maybe.

Speaker A:

And then I thought maybe it was just because they were also cutting between so many places that made it seem longer.

Speaker A:

I was.

Speaker A:

But I was just like, wow, that's a.

Speaker B:

Felt like a long time to work.

Speaker A:

Without Sam and Dean.

Speaker A:

It was.

Speaker A:

It was a long time without Sam and D is what I thought.

Speaker B:

It was a long.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Without them and just a lot of time for groundwork.

Speaker B:

Like, I know they have to do that, but like.

Speaker B:

Dang.

Speaker B:

It was a lot.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So we cut to our.

Speaker B:

The douchey fake Criss Angel.

Speaker B:

At this point, we still haven't learned his name, but we will in just a second.

Speaker B:

That is Jeb.

Speaker B:

And he's doing a David Blaine card trick.

Speaker B:

Because that's what it makes me think of.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I will take that analogy.

Speaker B:

I've seen David Blaine do that where he like, has the cards, but.

Speaker B:

Except he gives this guy, like.

Speaker B:

And Blaine doesn't do this.

Speaker B:

I like David Blaine.

Speaker B:

Sorry.

Speaker B:

I know people have feelings about him.

Speaker B:

Whatever.

Speaker B:

He's like doing some like, lame speech about how I don't do tricks.

Speaker B:

It's about angels and demons.

Speaker B:

Anyways, and so.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So he throws his deck of cards.

Speaker B:

And the brothers are walking up.

Speaker B:

Now we finally have Sam and Dean.

Speaker B:

Yay.

Speaker B:

And Dean says, what a douchebag.

Speaker B:

Which is just.

Speaker B:

It is comical.

Speaker B:

Like the way that everybody just react.

Speaker B:

Everybody that sees this guy, this reaction goes.

Speaker B:

Douchebag.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

My.

Speaker A:

My note says Dean correctly identifies the species Douchebaggerus in the wild.

Speaker B:

Ah, yes.

Speaker B:

And anyways.

Speaker B:

And so there's obviously Jeb Dexter, who.

Speaker B:

Sam recognizes him and Dean, like, what is he famous for?

Speaker B:

Douchebagger.

Speaker B:

It's like just.

Speaker B:

It's just non stop.

Speaker A:

Which is someone should do a count.

Speaker A:

I'm sure somebody has.

Speaker A:

How many times?

Speaker A:

Douchebag with seven.

Speaker B:

So anyways, good old Jeb does some weird, like, I don't know, growling kind of noises.

Speaker B:

And they throw.

Speaker A:

He fakes the seizure.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Convulsing.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And he throws the cards.

Speaker B:

Talking about a demon sending a demon back to hell.

Speaker B:

The car.

Speaker B:

One card sticks to the glass, but it's not stuck to the glass on the side he's on.

Speaker B:

It's on the other side.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So it's a David Wayne trick.

Speaker B:

Seen it anyways.

Speaker B:

And Dean Calls up this fake demon possession.

Speaker B:

And they're like, brother's just totally unimpressed.

Speaker B:

But Sam defends him because Dean remembers that Sam was pretty into magician stuff when he was a kid.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And Sam's like, I was 13, man.

Speaker A:

Like, come on.

Speaker B:

Although he.

Speaker A:

I do.

Speaker A:

And also, just like that, the character who plays young Sam.

Speaker A:

I just picture him with, like, the little top hat and, like, the wand.

Speaker A:

Just like that nerdy child being like, watch me do my terrible card trick.

Speaker B:

In our motel room.

Speaker B:

Well, yeah.

Speaker A:

What else are you doing in that motel room?

Speaker B:

I know.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Hey, hey.

Speaker B:

At least you had a hobby, man.

Speaker A:

Come on.

Speaker A:

Right?

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

And they're like, yeah, we're not here.

Speaker B:

We're here to, you know, the guy who was.

Speaker B:

You know, solved the death of a man with 12 stab wounds but not a tear in his shirt.

Speaker B:

So now we know they're here for this, which makes sense.

Speaker B:

It's some weird shit.

Speaker B:

So they're meeting up with what is Vance's assistant.

Speaker B:

The woman that was with him at the bar.

Speaker B:

And she's packing up her mag.

Speaker B:

The magic stuff.

Speaker A:

It was highly entertaining.

Speaker B:

It was like when she's put scarf.

Speaker B:

And, like, she's, like, pulling a scarf to pack it, and it just keeps coming.

Speaker A:

It's the comically long.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

And Dean's, like, looking at it and, like, just like, like.

Speaker B:

But doesn't say anything.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

He's just perturbed at it.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And then she's, like.

Speaker A:

The only thing.

Speaker A:

She's like.

Speaker A:

Opens the angel.

Speaker A:

There's a bunny.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Just a rabbit.

Speaker B:

Just hanging.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So she's like, yeah.

Speaker B:

Of course Vance had enemies.

Speaker B:

He was known for stealing techniques and tricks from other magicians.

Speaker B:

Douchebag.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

He was an asshole.

Speaker B:

And very, very, very floofy.

Speaker B:

Bunny, though.

Speaker A:

There's the poofiest of bunnies.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I want to pet that bunny.

Speaker B:

Me too.

Speaker B:

I bet he's soft.

Speaker B:

Anyways, and Dean.

Speaker B:

Dean asks if she found anything weird in Vance's stuff.

Speaker B:

Which is a dumb question, but she did.

Speaker B:

She finds a tarot card in his things.

Speaker B:

And she's like, it's weird because he hated card tricks.

Speaker A:

So she hands Dean the tarot card.

Speaker A:

And this is a pretty typical Rider Waite card.

Speaker A:

And it's a Ten of Swords.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker A:

And the image on that is consistent with just that.

Speaker A:

With that Dex version of it.

Speaker A:

So it's pretty much just like a guy, like, on his back and stabbed.

Speaker B:

A bunch of swords.

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker A:

Source.

Speaker A:

And according to tarot.com, it represents betrayal.

Speaker A:

Or feeling.

Speaker A:

Or feeling betrayal.

Speaker A:

Like either as the victims or like you are self sabotaging, but basically like you're hitting rock bottom.

Speaker A:

But I do love the reverse meaning.

Speaker A:

And that is in reverse.

Speaker A:

It suggests that you may have been over dramatizing your predicament in an attempt to get sympathy and understanding from others.

Speaker A:

You have beg to believe your own excuses.

Speaker B:

Is that great?

Speaker B:

That is great.

Speaker B:

I feel like that's also what my dog is doing right now, but it's.

Speaker A:

Definitely what Kevin is doing.

Speaker A:

Her dog's feet are in bandages.

Speaker A:

And it is hilarious.

Speaker B:

It is.

Speaker B:

It's really.

Speaker A:

It looks like he has little white socks.

Speaker B:

Sad, cute.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

And he's.

Speaker B:

He knows that he can ham it up a little bit.

Speaker B:

Like, if you're not watching, he's walking okay in him, but if he sees that you're watching, he'll suddenly, like, limp a little bit.

Speaker B:

It's like, you were fine, you Dr.

Speaker B:

Dramatic.

Speaker B:

Even the vet tech called him out for being dramatic.

Speaker B:

I'm just saying, it's not me alone.

Speaker B:

Like, yeah, he's a little dramatic.

Speaker B:

He's fine.

Speaker B:

But then all of a sudden he's like, he can't walk.

Speaker B:

And then he's fine.

Speaker B:

Like, anyways.

Speaker A:

Overdramatic.

Speaker A:

He's like, he's a dog and a man.

Speaker A:

He's just gonna be so overdramatic.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he's a big baby, too.

Speaker B:

All right, all right, here we go.

Speaker B:

So we cut back to the incredible Jay.

Speaker B:

He's playing with cards in his hotel room, and there's a knock on the do.

Speaker B:

It's Charlie who's come to visit and wants to know how.

Speaker B:

How did you do it?

Speaker B:

How did you not die on the table, basically?

Speaker B:

And he's like, not gonna tell, really, because he doesn't know either, but, you know, and that basically he's like, look, I went.

Speaker B:

You know, I'm gonna go from sad old and dying to one of the good ones.

Speaker B:

And anyways, J, you know, they all.

Speaker B:

He knows that nobody thought that he could do it it, but that Charlie is his best friend.

Speaker B:

And there we go.

Speaker B:

So now he's wanting to demonstrate.

Speaker B:

He's like, look, look at this.

Speaker B:

I used to not be able to pull one ace from middle of the deck.

Speaker B:

Now I'm pulling four.

Speaker B:

And so now tonight I can.

Speaker B:

I'm going to do the executioner.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker A:

Yeah, and the executioner.

Speaker A:

Like, I look at that one up and I don't think it's real.

Speaker A:

Like, I want to say, like, it isn't real.

Speaker A:

I think it's another name for cheating the gallows.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

That sounds right.

Speaker A:

Which was an illusion made popular by Charles Joseph Carter, aka Carter the Great, in the, like, 19.

Speaker A:

Like, early:

Speaker A:

He was America's stage magician.

Speaker A:

And honestly, like.

Speaker A:

And as you'll see through there, like, I love these posters.

Speaker A:

Yeah, the posters for, like, are so good.

Speaker A:

And Carter the Great had a. I think that was actually one of the ones used in here anyways, so.

Speaker A:

But Charlie's like, even Houdini wouldn't do that.

Speaker B:

Oh, no.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

And he's just pushing his luck.

Speaker B:

And Jay's like, I don't think it's luck, but it's better than doing birthdays and bar mitzvahs.

Speaker B:

And Charlie's like, oh, it's better than.

Speaker B:

You know, those are better than dying.

Speaker B:

But Charlie just doesn't.

Speaker B:

Charlie's like, I just don't want to watch you die.

Speaker B:

And Jay's like, look, you know, I need you to be there, and I can do this.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And he is like, I am awesome.

Speaker A:

Look at your pocket.

Speaker A:

And he's like, oh, look over there.

Speaker A:

And he's like, there's that fourth ace.

Speaker A:

It was in your pocket the whole time.

Speaker B:

Yep.

Speaker B:

All along.

Speaker B:

Magic.

Speaker B:

I'm not.

Speaker B:

I love this shit, so that's okay.

Speaker B:

But, yeah, not, like the level.

Speaker B:

Not to, like, a weird level, but I love it.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker B:

The incredible J is on stage again.

Speaker B:

Now we're at his show.

Speaker B:

Jeb.

Speaker B:

Jeb shows up and is on his phone and acting like a fucking asshole and talking bad about this showroom that he's in and is pissed that Angel, AKA Chris angel, is doing Vegas.

Speaker B:

Doing a Cirque show in Vegas.

Speaker A:

Should have been me.

Speaker B:

It's a really funny crossover.

Speaker A:

Iowa.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker B:

So Vernon and Charlie are just, like, watching this go down, and they're like, oh, God.

Speaker B:

And Dean walks in and is sitting by Vernon and is pretending to be a federal agent again and asks Vernon about.

Speaker B:

About Patrick Vance.

Speaker B:

Vance's death.

Speaker B:

We get kind of a little break there, and Jeb's, you know, trying to shoot, like, an interview kind of thing for his.

Speaker B:

Whatever show he has with Jay, but he's just a fucking asshole.

Speaker B:

Like the douche to the cameraman, and he talking about the tip of his hat, the cats that came before me.

Speaker B:

It's just, like, super condescending shit.

Speaker B:

And he calls Jim and does not want to be corrected and doesn't care, which is just fucking rude.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

Which is why what a douchebag is said.

Speaker A:

And everybody agrees.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Vernon.

Speaker B:

Vernon, Charlie and Dean agree.

Speaker B:

So Dean has the Tarot card that he'd gotten from Vance Assistant.

Speaker B:

He shows it to Vernon because apparently Vernon had a history of being a card guy.

Speaker B:

Used a tarot deck in his act back when he did Matthew Magic.

Speaker B:

And so he's asking if this was familiar.

Speaker B:

And Vernon and Charlie kind of look at each other and they like, rapid fire.

Speaker B:

Like, I say rapid fire, not in an awkward way, but, like, just super smooth.

Speaker B:

They're like, yeah, this guy on Bleecker street, you know, that you had to use them now.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that guy definitely, you know, had to have cross brand advance with, you know, royalties and blah, blah.

Speaker B:

Here's the address.

Speaker B:

Ask for Chief.

Speaker B:

And my note immediately was, I don't trust this.

Speaker A:

Ah, this sounds fun.

Speaker A:

This is fun.

Speaker A:

All right, Dean.

Speaker A:

So Dean's just like, I'm gonna go to 426Bleecker, and by myself, it's fine.

Speaker A:

And, you know, the old men told me, old men don't lie.

Speaker A:

Cool.

Speaker A:

And then we cut to the scene, and I love the neon Light at 4:26.

Speaker A:

It was so good.

Speaker B:

The street marker.

Speaker B:

The street marker with neon.

Speaker B:

That street.

Speaker A:

So cool.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I thought that was really neat.

Speaker A:

And I think if I had ever had a bar or a speakeasy like this or whatever you want to call what it's happening below 426, then.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So we go inside and Dean.

Speaker A:

And Dean basically asked the door.

Speaker A:

He was like, I'm here for Chief.

Speaker A:

And the guy's like, come on.

Speaker A:

Come on in.

Speaker B:

Leads him into a dark room with graffiti, and there's bass coming through somewhere and says, stay here and don't touch anything thing.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

And then all of a sudden, the basement, like, the cellar door opens, and there's this light and this loud, just.

Speaker B:

Like EDM rave music.

Speaker B:

And then flash of lights.

Speaker A:

Chief, the best leather daddy I've seen in a long time.

Speaker A:

I'm like, yes, Leather daddy.

Speaker A:

He's got a flogger.

Speaker A:

And he.

Speaker A:

He tells Dean, dean, you're really gonna get it tonight, big boy.

Speaker B:

But then Dean says, there's.

Speaker B:

There's been a misunderstanding.

Speaker B:

I think I've been had.

Speaker B:

And Chief replies, you ain't been had till you've been had by the Chief.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

And jeans are like, shit.

Speaker B:

Shit.

Speaker B:

He's freaking out.

Speaker B:

And then at least Chief does pause for a minute and ask for a safe word.

Speaker A:

He's a good leather daddy.

Speaker A:

He's a good daddy.

Speaker A:

He knows that you have to establish the safe word before you get going.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker A:

And then teen, just like, I wish they had.

Speaker A:

Like that.

Speaker A:

The Cartoon sound of someone gulping, like, doing.

Speaker A:

Because that is exactly what he did.

Speaker A:

All right, so now we're gonna go to something disturbing.

Speaker A:

And I don't like.

Speaker A:

I don't actually don't like this part of the episode.

Speaker B:

Hmm.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker A:

I don't like it because I think it's incongruous, which is fine.

Speaker A:

Like, I guess it has to be.

Speaker A:

And we're carrying on a different storyline, but it just seems really out of place for what's going on.

Speaker B:

I'm gonna say it's also annoying as someone that doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about and still hasn't been.

Speaker A:

Clued in about what they're talking about and they're doing.

Speaker A:

Yeah, they're definitely doing the waving the carrot of.

Speaker A:

There's something we're not telling you.

Speaker A:

There's something we're.

Speaker A:

And we've been doing this for like three episodes now, actually.

Speaker A:

Probably doing most of the season.

Speaker A:

Episode 12.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So, yeah, Sam's doing research.

Speaker B:

Ruby's at the door.

Speaker B:

And he's like, what are you doing here?

Speaker B:

And she's like, the whole world's about to be engulfed in hellfire.

Speaker B:

And you're in Magic Town, USA.

Speaker B:

There's 34 seals broken.

Speaker B:

That's over halfway.

Speaker B:

And Angels are going to lose the war.

Speaker A:

Because Sam is like, I don't know where the seals are.

Speaker A:

And then.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker A:

And Ruby's just like, go after Lilith.

Speaker A:

And it's just like, what the fuck, man?

Speaker B:

He says, I think the quote was, step up and kill the little bitch.

Speaker B:

I think.

Speaker B:

But you know.

Speaker B:

But basically, apparently his psychic powers aren't the problem.

Speaker B:

There's something else he needs to do.

Speaker B:

But he knows what the problem is.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

But it's the only way.

Speaker B:

And he says no.

Speaker B:

So I just have no idea what he's talking about.

Speaker B:

And it's good.

Speaker B:

And what you hear him talking about, it's getting annoying.

Speaker A:

Yep.

Speaker A:

And then she just gets weird and she's like, just admit you like it, Sam.

Speaker A:

And people are going to die.

Speaker A:

Sam.

Speaker A:

Oceans of people, Sam.

Speaker A:

And I'm just like, you're so over dramatic, Ruby.

Speaker A:

Just like, stop.

Speaker A:

Like you'll all talk it in metaphors.

Speaker A:

And I know there's a reason why you're talking in metaphors, blah, blah, blah.

Speaker A:

But stop it.

Speaker B:

Just stop it.

Speaker B:

Anyways, so, yeah, anyway, so let's go to the magic show.

Speaker A:

So this is like, okay, fine.

Speaker A:

Now apparently this is just done, right?

Speaker A:

Ruby leaves.

Speaker B:

People are gonna die.

Speaker B:

Bye.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So they're at a magic show and Dean asks If Sam found anything interesting, he's like, no.

Speaker B:

And Sam asked Dean found anything interesting, and nothing I want to talk about or think about ever again.

Speaker A:

So, I mean, Sam's not telling Dean about Ruby, and then Dean's just like, maybe I don't need to talk about the Chief.

Speaker A:

Maybe I'll just keep the Chief to myself.

Speaker A:

And we don't know what happened.

Speaker A:

I mean, Dean could have been like, hey, you know, he got out.

Speaker A:

We.

Speaker A:

We know that he liked hitting people.

Speaker A:

Like, we learned that after his stint in hell.

Speaker A:

So maybe he wanted.

Speaker A:

Maybe he wanted, you know, like, to have some relief and get some of his skills.

Speaker A:

Relieved by Chief.

Speaker A:

We don't know.

Speaker A:

They didn't.

Speaker A:

They didn't stay.

Speaker A:

We didn't see him leave.

Speaker A:

No judgment, Dean.

Speaker A:

Sometimes we have to work out our problems in whatever way we can.

Speaker A:

All right, so Vernon and Charlie are just like, what the fuck is up with Jay?

Speaker B:

Yeah, Jay's crazy.

Speaker B:

There's his.

Speaker B:

He's off the rocker, and they make a crack about how Chief's not his type and y' all are no feds.

Speaker B:

Like, they're like, yeah, we con people for a living.

Speaker B:

It takes more than a fake batch.

Speaker B:

So they know that Sam and Dean are not federal agents.

Speaker B:

So the brothers just laugh real awkwardly and claim to be aspiring magicians and working on ideas for Brother.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Which is not much.

Speaker B:

Not any.

Speaker B:

Like, that's actually probably less believable.

Speaker B:

It was weird, but, yeah, I don't know.

Speaker A:

Whatever.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

But now on the stage, Jay is doing the Executioner.

Speaker B:

He's gonna fucking hang himself.

Speaker B:

Himself.

Speaker B:

This is ridiculous.

Speaker B:

So we see Cut while he's getting ready to put the noose on.

Speaker B:

We cut to Jeb checking himself out in his mirror in his room.

Speaker B:

And then we cut back to Jeb.

Speaker A:

His theme song is playing, by the way.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker A:

Every time they flash to him, it's like sex.

Speaker A:

I know the word.

Speaker A:

So it sounded like, I am the spirit.

Speaker A:

I am the but.

Speaker B:

So we have Jay putting on a straight jacket as Charlie close closes a curtain around him, and they put the news around his neck.

Speaker B:

This is really weird.

Speaker B:

He's got a minute to escape certain death.

Speaker B:

There's a timer going before the.

Speaker B:

The panel drops out so he would hang and die.

Speaker B:

And you can see him struggling in his silhouette.

Speaker B:

We cut back to Jeb, and apparently he just sounds like a noose chilling on a mannequin in his hotel room in Iowa.

Speaker A:

Man, no judgment, you know, like, whatever play you want to have.

Speaker A:

Get off again.

Speaker A:

We already did.

Speaker A:

We already talked about cheese.

Speaker A:

This is a very fetish heavy episode.

Speaker A:

And, you know, if anyone's gonna have like, on your leather vest.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it makes sense.

Speaker B:

All right.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

But now the noose is moving on its own like a snake uncoiling, and it is slithering across the ceiling and wrapping itself around the fan.

Speaker B:

So we cut back to Jay struggling still, and he's about to be out of time on this hanging thing.

Speaker A:

And this is not this amazing timer, by the way.

Speaker A:

That clock is awesome.

Speaker A:

I.

Speaker A:

They want that clock.

Speaker B:

The light bulbs.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker A:

It was so good.

Speaker B:

And then his feet drop out because the buzzer goes off, and it looks like he's gonna hang.

Speaker B:

But right when that's happening, we also cut back to Jeb's room where the noose has come down from the fan, wrapped around his neck.

Speaker B:

And as the fan blades turn, it tightens the rope and hangs him.

Speaker A:

Dun, dun, dun.

Speaker A:

The douchebag is no more.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

So I will never have a noose in my house.

Speaker B:

Not that I would anyways, but that.

Speaker A:

Just because I can't say that because I don't want.

Speaker B:

I don't want it to come to life and hang me on accident.

Speaker B:

I know.

Speaker A:

I just can't say that I will never have a noose in my house.

Speaker A:

Like, it just seems illogical for me to say that.

Speaker A:

That seems highly probable.

Speaker A:

Somewhere in some point in time, there'll be a noose in this house anyways, so.

Speaker A:

But Jay is fine.

Speaker B:

Yeah, Jay is fine.

Speaker B:

And his jacket, the straight jacket's off.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

And now Dean's all excited.

Speaker B:

He's beaming.

Speaker B:

He's like, that was freaking amazing.

Speaker B:

But what's interesting is now Sam's reaction, which is like, that's not humanly possible.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And so while he says that, we just cut back to Jeb, who spends from the fan, because it seems like, you know, the trick could have gone wrong.

Speaker A:

It didn't.

Speaker A:

But.

Speaker A:

So let's talk about some tricks that did go wrong.

Speaker B:

Oh, God,.

Speaker A:

Minnie.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So as I was going through trying to figure out what we're going to talk about this episode, one of the things.

Speaker A:

And this was the second thing that I decided to search for.

Speaker A:

And we'll get to the first one at the end, but this one was magician accident because I was just like, what happens if, like, you know, there's got to be some good stories there, right?

Speaker A:

Like, and funny things and people hurting themselves.

Speaker A:

And who doesn't like America's Funniest Home Videos or Snoop Dogg's Dumbest Criminals, which you have not watched yet.

Speaker A:

I high Recommend watching it.

Speaker A:

It's very entertaining and satisfying to watch.

Speaker A:

Like port pirates get like their what up is like, very good.

Speaker A:

All right, so our first.

Speaker A:

We have a couple examples of these.

Speaker A:

So our first example was a.

Speaker A:

In Poland, there was a.

Speaker A:

Like a morning like the talk show.

Speaker A:

So like, you know, Good Morning America, but like in Poland, right?

Speaker A:

And so they have this magician comes on and she's like, yeah, of course.

Speaker A:

The host is like, I'll do this magic trick with you.

Speaker A:

And he is like, okay, you're supposed to like slam your hand down on like this paperb bag.

Speaker A:

And basil, it's kind of three card Monty thing where there's like sharp nails and all the bags.

Speaker A:

But one of them wasn't supposed to have the nail in the bag, but he fucked up and it had the nail in the bag and he slammed her hand into the nail.

Speaker A:

And the video of it is quite.

Speaker A:

Just hilarious.

Speaker A:

I gotta.

Speaker A:

I can't lie, it was kind of funny.

Speaker A:

But because.

Speaker A:

Because I know she was fine, basically she said it was.

Speaker A:

It was minor, but I mean, Polish women were kind of badasses.

Speaker A:

And so she was like, it was fine, it was just superficial.

Speaker A:

So that was one of them.

Speaker A:

The next headline was Magician accidentally kills assistant with chainsaw.

Speaker B:

And that's a little more dramatic.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

This one, he was doing the sawing in half illusion and his wife was his magician's assistant and he put her in a box and he was like, yo, instead of doing this like hand saw, I'm going to use this chainsaw.

Speaker A:

And he saw her in half.

Speaker A:

Now there are people like, there's video of this.

Speaker A:

It's generally been taken down everywhere.

Speaker A:

There are those who say that video is a hoax.

Speaker A:

But I like this person, whoever website I got this from, she was like, but I didn't see it on Snope, so it must be true.

Speaker A:

And I'm like, sure, I'll go with that.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

The next headline is the Japanese princess impaled in a Tin sword trick, which is similar to this one.

Speaker A:

And this was Princess TENKO.

Speaker A:

And in:

Speaker A:

And she lived.

Speaker A:

But she was penned inside where it got her in the cheek and in her ribs.

Speaker A:

And if it had been a centimeter higher, it would have gotten her in the eye.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker A:

Oh, out.

Speaker A:

sically do Houdini's trick in:

Speaker A:

The buried alive.

Speaker A:

This was escape artist Joseph Burris.

Speaker A:

And he was like, put me in the see through casket, lower me into the ground, and then have cement poured on me.

Speaker A:

But the cement was too heavy and it broke the coffin.

Speaker A:

I remember hearing about that.

Speaker A:

And it killed him.

Speaker B:

I remember hearing about that.

Speaker A:

I was in California in:

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker B:

Magicians tried to do something.

Speaker B:

Somebody tried to do after that because they talked about it later on.

Speaker B:

That was what.

Speaker B:

That's not like.

Speaker B:

Yeah, I mean, it's.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it's not an illusion if that one gives me like heebie jeebies, like, freak me out.

Speaker A:

But also like, math, man.

Speaker A:

Do some.

Speaker B:

Like, there is a.

Speaker B:

There is an equation for this.

Speaker A:

Submit heavy.

Speaker A:

How the fuck did you not figure out that?

Speaker A:

I understand if it was like a fuck up in the math, but God do Smith.

Speaker B:

Can somebody do the math first is the biggest question.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Measure twice, cut once.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

All right, so we're going to cut to Dean reading books and Sam researching Jay.

Speaker B:

Yes.

Speaker B:

So basically Jay was like a big deal in the 70s.

Speaker B:

Played Radio City Music Hall.

Speaker B:

But then, you know, basically, like, what happened?

Speaker B:

He's like, he just got old.

Speaker B:

Like, it is what it is.

Speaker B:

Like.

Speaker B:

And so.

Speaker B:

So Dean's like, yeah, but you think he's using real magic to stage a comeback.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, yeah, some kind of like death transference or something like that maybe.

Speaker B:

And this kind of spurs a sad, interesting conversation.

Speaker B:

Dean's like, I hope I die before I get old.

Speaker B:

And that makes Sam really fucking sad.

Speaker B:

Like, Sam is bummed by this.

Speaker B:

Dean's like, yeah, I think we're gonna be dead before, you know, for, you know, some of these days we'll be dead for good and it'll be before we get older, old.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, yeah, but what about Bobby?

Speaker B:

Like, you know, he's a hunter and he's older.

Speaker B:

I was like, bobby doesn't seem that old.

Speaker B:

I feel old now anyways.

Speaker B:

But Sam just really hopes they'll be different.

Speaker B:

And he's like, yeah, this ends up bloody or sad for us.

Speaker B:

That's it.

Speaker B:

So whatever.

Speaker B:

Resigned.

Speaker B:

Yeah, like a very matter of fact about it.

Speaker B:

And Sam's just like, what if we could win?

Speaker B:

What if we put an end to all of it?

Speaker B:

He's just trying to talk.

Speaker B:

To talk Dean into, you know, at this point, saying maybe we should just, you know, cut off the head of the snake, maybe go after Lilith and then we can end this all.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

And so Dean is just also just kind of like, this is sus man, like, I don't understand.

Speaker A:

Like, you're talking weird.

Speaker A:

And then we get like a very good line about, you know, Sam just like you when he's like, can we just like, you know, cut off the head of the snake?

Speaker A:

And Dean's like, the problem with the snake is.

Speaker A:

Is that it has a thousand heads.

Speaker A:

And evil bitches just keep piling out the Volkswagen.

Speaker A:

And I'm like, you're not wrong.

Speaker A:

Like, evil bitches just keep piling out every Volkswagen or Impala.

Speaker B:

I don't want you.

Speaker A:

Okay, so we're cutting again.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So now Sam is supposed to go track down.

Speaker B:

Track down Jay.

Speaker B:

So we cut to the lobby and.

Speaker B:

And Dean is telling Sam that he's, you know, that they.

Speaker B:

Look, it's not a suicide.

Speaker B:

Jeb's dead too.

Speaker B:

So we gotta.

Speaker A:

Dead.

Speaker B:

Jeb's dead.

Speaker B:

And that they're, you know, they found the tarot card of the hanged man.

Speaker B:

And so they are talking like they call these like black magic targets maybe at this point.

Speaker B:

So they're piecing together that both Vance and Jeb have insulted Jay at some point in time.

Speaker B:

Time.

Speaker B:

And so.

Speaker B:

And they have now lost Jay because he slipped Sam's tail.

Speaker B:

Six year old magician able to do that.

Speaker B:

So anyways, they tell him to his hotel room and they kick open his door violently with guns drawn and say they know what he's been up to.

Speaker B:

Accuse.

Speaker A:

What's even worse though is like while they're in the hall, like their guns are out.

Speaker A:

I'm like, why are you just hanging out in this hallway of this hotel with your dad?

Speaker A:

Like guys like, come on.

Speaker A:

But I did appreciate like their.

Speaker A:

Their faces like appearing behind the wall.

Speaker B:

I thought that was a little peek out.

Speaker B:

A little.

Speaker B:

Very, very sleuth, Sleuth, detective peek out thing.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And then Jay's like, I don't know what the y' all are talking about.

Speaker B:

This is all fake.

Speaker B:

Y' all are crazy.

Speaker B:

And Sam and Dean are like, oh, what the.

Speaker B:

Okay, so they tie him up and they're like, well, if he forgetting who Jay is, right?

Speaker B:

And they're like, well.

Speaker B:

And then they turn around to have a conversation about.

Speaker B:

Well, even if he's not the one doing it, he gets the reward with out shows.

Speaker B:

So maybe it's one of his friends about Fernandez Charlie.

Speaker A:

Did they turn into old timey newcasts?

Speaker B:

I went there.

Speaker A:

That's.

Speaker B:

And so.

Speaker B:

But as they're talking, of course Jay slipped his ropes.

Speaker B:

So the brothers.

Speaker A:

He's a magician.

Speaker B:

Yeah, duh.

Speaker B:

And then honestly too, I was like, it's so dumb.

Speaker B:

The brothers are like, well, fuck, he got away.

Speaker B:

So they just leave.

Speaker B:

And being the good magician that he is, that uses misdirection, he didn't leave the fucking room.

Speaker B:

He just went to the closet right there, which is the easiest path for him.

Speaker B:

So he was in illusion.

Speaker B:

It's illusion that he escaped.

Speaker B:

So as the brothers get downstairs, cops pull up quickly, and right then Jay is running down the stairs, said, those are the two nut jobs that broke into my room.

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker A:

So now we're getting into the thing that I searched for first.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

And so this also has to do with the rest because I was.

Speaker A:

Because I was looking into, like, the old timey magicians that they talk about in here, like the ones from the 30s and 40s, like Keller and things, and they weren't that scandalous, and I kind of want scandal.

Speaker A:

So I just typed in magician arrested.

Speaker B:

Oh, God.

Speaker A:

Y', all, there's a lot of magicians that do bad things with kids.

Speaker A:

A lot.

Speaker A:

Yeah, it was.

Speaker A:

It was not good.

Speaker A:

And I kind of got disturbed, which is how we did end up going to the magician's accidents.

Speaker B:

They just made their innocence disappear.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So we're gonna talk about two quick things.

Speaker B:

Oh, God.

Speaker A:

The first one, I just.

Speaker A:

Because the story is very sad, but also kind of hilarious just because of what ends up happening.

Speaker A:

All right, so in:

Speaker A:

And really sad.

Speaker A:

Like, these are little kids.

Speaker A:

They're like 8 or 9 years old, and so somebody shot them.

Speaker A:

They ended up arresting the sometime magician, Herbert Dennison, for this.

Speaker A:

And according to his mom, you know, he worked in vaudeville as a magician while he was a teenager, but his brain took a wrong turn at 20 and got lost.

Speaker A:

And she said he became delusional, imagining that he was a target of assassins.

Speaker A:

And he began collecting guns for kids, including one of the kinds they found with that actually was used guns for protection, not guns for kids.

Speaker A:

That's a weird thing.

Speaker A:

Anyhow, ignore that.

Speaker A:

Look over there.

Speaker A:

So when he was arrested, they asked him if he had done anything like that, and he responded by saying, saying, I hate all children and Yankees.

Speaker A:

And then he opened up his shirt, and he had a tattoo of a Spanish flag on his heart.

Speaker A:

And on his arm he had another flag, but they didn't say what that flag was like, what country that was of.

Speaker A:

And that one said, scientists, alchemist, priest, atheist.

Speaker A:

Huh, Boy.

Speaker B:

Hold on.

Speaker B:

So he hates.

Speaker B:

He hates children and Yankees.

Speaker A:

He hates children and Yankees.

Speaker B:

There are times in My life.

Speaker B:

I may have said that myself, possibly.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So.

Speaker A:

And his mother was like, these tattoos, like, show how crazy he is.

Speaker A:

Like, he's American.

Speaker A:

He doesn't have, like, with.

Speaker A:

But they don't have any Spanish blood in them.

Speaker A:

Eventually, he gets confined indefinitely at Matawan, which was this amazing asylum up in New York.

Speaker A:

And someday we'll talk about that place because, yeah, that place is creepy.

Speaker A:

Like, basically they have shuttered down part of the asylum, but, like, so many of the other ones, like, have just let a prison go around it.

Speaker A:

Like, I don't know why they do that a lot in this country that they close down a mental asylum and just keep building prisons around it.

Speaker A:

So they be haunted.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

All right, and the second one, and this is the one that I told Diana.

Speaker A:

I was like, I got really disturbed looking, looking at the things around it.

Speaker A:

illers from California in the:

Speaker A:

And that was Vernon Butts.

Speaker A:

He was William bonin's accomplice for nine murders.

Speaker A:

Bonnen did, like, like, at least 14 that were known.

Speaker A:

And he was charged in court for three murders on top of additional charges, including sodomy and robbery.

Speaker A:

They basically would just hunt down and kill the boys.

Speaker A:

It was really awful.

Speaker A:

Awful.

Speaker A:

He attempted suicide four times while he was in prison, and he was successful in his fifth time.

Speaker A:

And he died before he could go to court for his own trial.

Speaker A:

But funny, May 4th fact, because this is happening in May and the 5th or whatever crappy Star wars nerds are going to be talking about in a couple of days when this weird magician, pedophile murder douchebag was arrested, he was dressed as Darth Vader.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

But that was.

Speaker A:

I'm not going to get into, like, I watched, like, I, like, watch one, like one of my murder shows on this, and I was like, this is.

Speaker A:

I couldn't do it.

Speaker A:

Like, it's just.

Speaker A:

It's too bad.

Speaker A:

And the reenactments of it, like, oh, man.

Speaker A:

Guys don't reenact child's children getting assaulted, insulted.

Speaker A:

Just don't do that.

Speaker B:

That's uncomfortable.

Speaker A:

It was.

Speaker A:

Okay, so now that we're out of that.

Speaker A:

So just.

Speaker A:

Magicians are gross.

Speaker A:

Sorry.

Speaker B:

If you're magicians, don't say that.

Speaker A:

If you saw the number of magician arrested that came up.

Speaker A:

It was a lot.

Speaker A:

Diana.

Speaker A:

There is a lot of them setting.

Speaker A:

It was very upsetting, the whole thing.

Speaker A:

Very upsetting.

Speaker A:

So upsetting.

Speaker A:

All right, so we're gonna cut to.

Speaker A:

Charlie is polishing his fancy shoes.

Speaker B:

Yeah, because.

Speaker B:

And Jay's talking to him.

Speaker B:

They're backstage, and Jay's telling him what our Winchester brothers were telling him.

Speaker B:

It's.

Speaker B:

It's like they're saying that my act is killing people.

Speaker B:

And he's just really incredulous about the whole thing.

Speaker B:

But also, he kind of starts to ask Charlie, like, do you.

Speaker B:

But also, do you think this is possible?

Speaker B:

Like, the cards, the escape.

Speaker B:

So suddenly, like, what, an advance and job dying, like.

Speaker B:

And then Charlie's kind of like, wait, you actually believe these guys?

Speaker B:

Hold up.

Speaker B:

And he's like, look, I don't think I want to go on to sold out house.

Speaker B:

And he's like, look, I honestly.

Speaker B:

Jay admits to Charlie that he actually planned to kill himself.

Speaker B:

So the.

Speaker B:

He didn't.

Speaker B:

He did not plan for the Table of Death to be a success.

Speaker B:

He wanted to go out like that.

Speaker A:

And that is dark.

Speaker A:

Dark, but also kind of.

Speaker A:

Kind of epic.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

If I was a magician, it was like, that was the way I was gonna go.

Speaker A:

Like, it would certainly.

Speaker A:

He would show up when I Googled accident.

Speaker A:

New magician accident, you know?

Speaker B:

Oh.

Speaker B:

But, yeah.

Speaker A:

And honestly, guys, there are a lot of ones that I left out.

Speaker A:

Like, have fun looking at that.

Speaker A:

And also, I'm so, like, so glad there's a lot of.

Speaker A:

This video has been taken down.

Speaker A:

This video has been taken down.

Speaker A:

There is.

Speaker A:

Because they were performers.

Speaker A:

There's a lot of people that were recording when accidents happen.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So the lady slamming her hand into the nail, that was funny.

Speaker A:

But why would you watch somebody.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Like, it's just.

Speaker A:

That's too much.

Speaker A:

Anyway.

Speaker B:

It's like, I heard a reference to this.

Speaker B:

That show.

Speaker B:

The show, or those videos earlier today, actually.

Speaker A:

What?

Speaker A:

Faces of Death.

Speaker B:

Face of Death.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And, like, they were those still.

Speaker A:

I mean, I'm assuming they're still around,.

Speaker B:

Like, go, like, find the vhs.

Speaker A:

It was like the ring.

Speaker A:

Like, yeah.

Speaker A:

You had to go, like, find the vhs.

Speaker A:

Only, like, certain stores.

Speaker A:

Only independent stores had them.

Speaker A:

They were always checked out because I think they just permanently check them out and just be like, no, you can't have this, because y' all are gross.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And everybody.

Speaker B:

The monkey brain eating one is the one that everybody remembers from that.

Speaker B:

It's one of the things, like, I've.

Speaker A:

Ever wondered about, like, an alligator.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

I couldn't.

Speaker A:

I couldn't even make it through that.

Speaker B:

So anyways, I think they tried to quarter somebody in one of them.

Speaker B:

Like, I don't know.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

Like, it's bad enough we have that shit happening.

Speaker A:

I'm like, now we get tick tock for that.

Speaker B:

So, like, I don't know, like, I.

Speaker A:

Hate this timeline anyway, so.

Speaker A:

But I guess, you know, that also happened in the old time.

Speaker A:

I mean, we're still watching that shit in the 80s and 90s on VHS.

Speaker B:

So, I mean, yeah, like, people used to go to public executions.

Speaker B:

I mean, like, come on now.

Speaker A:

Yeah, people still do and people are gross anyways.

Speaker A:

But yes, now we're like, oh, man, Jay, that's sad.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that's real sad.

Speaker B:

Wait a minute.

Speaker B:

He's like, wait a minute, you were the best in your day.

Speaker B:

You need to get back out there.

Speaker B:

It doesn't matter how you got this shit back.

Speaker B:

You fucking go do it.

Speaker B:

Don't throw it away.

Speaker A:

So at this point, we start questioning Charlie's.

Speaker A:

At least I start questioning Charlie's affection for Jay.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he's very.

Speaker B:

He has a lot of very.

Speaker B:

Now, I've got friends that I, you know, obviously are like family that I care deeply about.

Speaker B:

Liz is one of them.

Speaker B:

Aw.

Speaker B:

But we.

Speaker B:

But, like, also, like, I don't know, the level of affection in his tone insinuated that it may have been more than just.

Speaker A:

I'm starting.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

I'm starting to think that someone has maybe deeper feelings for Jay than friendship.

Speaker A:

But he's.

Speaker A:

But Charlie's just like, man, be grateful for this chance.

Speaker A:

Don't throw it away, right?

Speaker A:

And so show must go on.

Speaker B:

Jay goes out to do a show.

Speaker B:

He's going to do the Table of Death again.

Speaker B:

And we see kind of like this weird exchange.

Speaker B:

Like, Vernon's backstage also, and they kind of a weird nod between him and Charlie.

Speaker B:

It just struck me as odd.

Speaker B:

I'm just saying.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

If Vernon's watching from the side, like, he's kind of uncomfortable.

Speaker A:

That was kind of what the nod said to me.

Speaker A:

Like, both of them were like, I can't believe he's doing this.

Speaker A:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

And then Charlie kind of runs off somewhere, which is weird too.

Speaker B:

But anyways, misdirection, illusion.

Speaker B:

And the knives drop.

Speaker A:

And, yeah, we see behind the scrim, we see the same thing happening again.

Speaker B:

And the curtains go back open and Jay is fine again.

Speaker B:

Jay fun.

Speaker A:

Jay fun.

Speaker B:

And then we hear backstage and who has the stab wounds now?

Speaker B:

Oh, no, it's Charlie.

Speaker A:

Well, Charlie did all right.

Speaker A:

Charlie's dead.

Speaker A:

All right, this is interesting.

Speaker B:

Now we've got.

Speaker B:

We cut to Jack, Jay and Jay, our Winchester brothers, are meeting Jay because Jay has managed to drop the charges against them.

Speaker B:

Because he's like, y' all motherfuckers might be onto something.

Speaker B:

Something is not right here.

Speaker B:

And they're like, you know, we gotta talk.

Speaker B:

This is what happened.

Speaker B:

And that they were friends, like brothers, since they were teenagers.

Speaker B:

And he's just really upset that he didn't listen to Sam.

Speaker B:

And Dean wants to know who's doing this.

Speaker B:

So they're like, did Charlie and Vernon get along?

Speaker B:

Because now obviously there's first suspect is Vernon.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Sam is like, is it Vernon?

Speaker A:

And Jay's like, no.

Speaker A:

And Sam's like, but Vernon just like, yeah.

Speaker A:

Like, well, that kind of makes sense.

Speaker A:

And then like Dean makes like the worst dragon analogy ever and says the thing about real magic is it's a whole lot like crack.

Speaker A:

People do surprising things once they get a taste of.

Speaker A:

Of it.

Speaker B:

So bizarre.

Speaker B:

So bizarre.

Speaker A:

That was a very random line.

Speaker A:

I was like.

Speaker A:

It was okay.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker B:

Magic is like crack.

Speaker B:

Crack is whack.

Speaker A:

Crack is whack.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So Vernon meets up with Jay and it's kind of like, I'm sorry, Vernon's in his hotel room first and he's like clothed, laying on his bed, watching TV with his shoes on in the bed.

Speaker B:

And that was upsetting to me.

Speaker A:

Me, hotel bud.

Speaker A:

Whatever.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker A:

That blanket is disgusting anyways.

Speaker A:

Like it's covered in coming probably Diana let the shoes.

Speaker A:

The shoes not gonna be that matter that much.

Speaker B:

So his phone rings and obviously it's Jay.

Speaker B:

It implies it's Jay.

Speaker B:

So he goes to meet him and he leaves his room.

Speaker B:

And so they, they break in.

Speaker B:

The brothers break into to go search the space.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, this like a magic museum.

Speaker B:

He must be on the road.

Speaker B:

Soul life.

Speaker B:

And it is, it's full of like.

Speaker B:

Like this motherfucker has moved into this hotel room.

Speaker B:

This is not just like, oh, here's my suitcase, and like a couple accoutrements.

Speaker B:

This is like a full on magic display.

Speaker A:

And it's also really cool.

Speaker A:

Like, I would like.

Speaker A:

And Dean's like, yeah, it's like, you must be in heaven.

Speaker A:

I'm like, yeah, I would be in heaven.

Speaker A:

I'd be like, fuck yeah.

Speaker A:

I want to go through all this shit.

Speaker A:

Like, this is like, looks great.

Speaker B:

And Vernon and Jay meet up and Vernon tells Jay that he's got the headlining gig now.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

But Jay's sad about it.

Speaker B:

He's like, I can't do it with Charlie gone.

Speaker B:

And Vernon's like, wait, no, this is our shot.

Speaker B:

This is what Charlie would have wanted.

Speaker B:

And Jay's like, maybe not maybe you're the one that killed him so that we could be back on top.

Speaker B:

And Vernon's like, no, you're fucking crazy.

Speaker B:

That's not what happened happened.

Speaker B:

And then we hear a weird voice that we haven't heard from the side say, I wouldn't be so hard on him, Jay.

Speaker B:

He didn't do it.

Speaker B:

Who is this?

Speaker B:

Who is this young man with a mark on his face?

Speaker B:

A distinctive mark on his face.

Speaker B:

We cut back to.

Speaker B:

The brothers are up in this hotel room and they're like, no, this is just old timey magic stuff.

Speaker B:

There's no, like, no herbs, candles or magic cards here, but they do find a poster for the great desert Tini.

Speaker A:

So desert Teeny or dessert tiny.

Speaker A:

Like, I couldn't like, decide because it's two S's.

Speaker A:

Isn't that dessert tiny?

Speaker B:

I guess the name annoyed me.

Speaker B:

Ricardo.

Speaker B:

The name was annoying.

Speaker B:

The name's annoying.

Speaker A:

But that sounds like, you know, like an appletini with slime that you eat.

Speaker A:

Like something you would get at Applebee's.

Speaker A:

Applebee's, Applebee's.

Speaker A:

Come in for a great dessert Teeny.

Speaker A:

Oh, I bet that's been on their menu.

Speaker B:

You know that it's like a crappy brownie.

Speaker B:

It's a crappy brownie with like some Bailey's poured on it.

Speaker B:

A scoop of ice cream.

Speaker B:

A microwave brownie or.

Speaker A:

Yeah, and there's some like, like some college kid, like getting drunk off of it and just getting diabetes.

Speaker B:

But anyways, headache just thinking about it.

Speaker B:

But now I want a brownie anyways.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So in the I'll be damn poster, we can tell it's Charlie because they had the same birthmark.

Speaker B:

Yeah, that's what it is.

Speaker B:

That's the giveaway.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

So it's young Charlie and that's who's on the stage also with Vernon and Jay now.

Speaker B:

So young Charlie is like, yeah, it's really me.

Speaker B:

You know, you forget what it feels like to be young.

Speaker B:

Basically, he's about 28 years old and.

Speaker B:

And once upon a time he was working for Barnum and got a hold of real magic and he says Barnum.

Speaker A:

Gave him a grimoire.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

Which is like, to be fair, like, as far as I know, Barnum was not an occultist, just a terrible person.

Speaker A:

And I like, because I kind of looked, I was like, yeah, you know, he should be both, Liz.

Speaker A:

You can be both.

Speaker A:

As many occultists have shown us.

Speaker A:

Hello, Mr. Crowley.

Speaker A:

But you know, kind of looking, it's like he would have been the right era to be into Spiritualism.

Speaker A:

So I don't know if it was like, he just wasn't interested.

Speaker A:

He was just, like, more interested in buying.

Speaker A:

Selling human beings.

Speaker A:

But, yeah, as far as I know, he did not have a grimoire.

Speaker A:

But Charlie's like, I did all the spells, and, like, it worked.

Speaker A:

I'm like, that's not how grimoires work, but whatever.

Speaker A:

Okay, so all smells just.

Speaker A:

Weren't he magic?

Speaker B:

And one was for immortality, but he used a different spell for Jay to help him do magic.

Speaker B:

And it was just a taste.

Speaker B:

And, you know, he's got a whole tarot deck and that those cards in his hand are still radioactive.

Speaker B:

And I guess that.

Speaker B:

I don't know.

Speaker B:

So Jay calls him out for killing people, and he's like, yeah, this isn't like a parlor game.

Speaker B:

These people have humiliated you and.

Speaker B:

And Charlie.

Speaker B:

And he's just mad.

Speaker B:

He's like, you, Charlie used me?

Speaker B:

And he's like, yeah, no, you wanted it in that.

Speaker B:

You know, it saved your life from killing yourself.

Speaker B:

So why don't you come with me?

Speaker B:

Why don't both Vernon and Jay?

Speaker B:

Why don't you come be immortal with me?

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

So Jay is basically going to.

Speaker A:

You know, we've got Charlie being like, it's great being young.

Speaker A:

And Vernon's like, I want a piece of that.

Speaker A:

And then Jay is like, here's my ethics space.

Speaker A:

This is not ethical.

Speaker A:

And you are correct.

Speaker A:

You are correct, Jay.

Speaker A:

This is.

Speaker B:

This is poor Jay with his.

Speaker A:

However, you're also really old.

Speaker A:

And.

Speaker A:

Yeah, I think Vernon is just like, yeah, fuck it.

Speaker A:

Like, I look at.

Speaker A:

Look at young Charlie over here.

Speaker A:

He looks shipper.

Speaker A:

How come he still wants to fuck the old man?

Speaker A:

I don't know, but he does.

Speaker A:

All right, so Vernon's on board.

Speaker A:

And then we get a very Scooby moment of Dean bursting in.

Speaker A:

Not so fast.

Speaker B:

Salmon dinner in.

Speaker B:

And then Dean makes a cocoon joke.

Speaker B:

And Dean, he's like, yeah.

Speaker A:

Are you just throwing out the cocoon joke?

Speaker B:

Yeah, I'm just throwing it in there.

Speaker A:

You're just like, I don't want to talk about it.

Speaker A:

I was embarrassed by the cocoon joke and the reference of Steve Guttenberg.

Speaker B:

So Dean's like, immortality, That's a.

Speaker B:

That's a neat trick.

Speaker B:

And he's like, it's not a trick.

Speaker B:

It's magic.

Speaker B:

And then.

Speaker B:

But a noose drops right then and gets Dean by the throat and starts pulling him up.

Speaker B:

So now Dean's getting choked out.

Speaker B:

This is bad.

Speaker B:

So Sam shoots a young Charlie, and it doesn't work because he spits the bullet out.

Speaker A:

He's like, oh, it's the bullet catch.

Speaker B:

I've been working on that.

Speaker B:

And then he disappears and reappears.

Speaker B:

And Sam threatens him with a gun again for him to let Dean go.

Speaker B:

But young Charlie's like, no, I'll give it all up, the hex, the spells, just to have you leave me and my friends alone.

Speaker B:

And Sam's like, no, I'm gonna hit you.

Speaker B:

And can't, because you did a ghosty thing where he disappears and reappears.

Speaker B:

Face stressful, this person.

Speaker B:

Because all the time I'm like, oh, my God.

Speaker B:

Is trying to fight this guy who's immortal, and he doesn't get what he can and can't do.

Speaker B:

And then Dean's choking out.

Speaker B:

And I was very stressed about it.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

Okay.

Speaker A:

But we know it's gonna be fine.

Speaker A:

And the boys will be all right.

Speaker A:

And so Charlie is invisibly stabbed.

Speaker A:

It's fine.

Speaker A:

So Sam is not.

Speaker A:

He's on the table of death.

Speaker A:

He's fine.

Speaker A:

Dean is not.

Speaker A:

Is not fine, you know, Is not hanging.

Speaker A:

Everything is gonna be fine.

Speaker A:

Fine.

Speaker A:

Because Jay has stabbed himself.

Speaker A:

And because he is such a great sleight of hand, he has pocketed the tarot deck.

Speaker A:

And he has left the magician in Charlie's pockets.

Speaker A:

And so the boys free themselves and they don't die.

Speaker A:

Everything is fine.

Speaker A:

No need to be stressed.

Speaker A:

You're okay.

Speaker B:

There we go.

Speaker A:

Okay.

Speaker B:

But it was really sad that Jay had to do that anyways, so was.

Speaker A:

It because he's fine.

Speaker A:

Like, he just, you know, he's fine.

Speaker B:

And Vernon.

Speaker A:

Dick Charlie was a dick.

Speaker B:

Vernon.

Speaker B:

And Vernon's upset.

Speaker B:

Vernon's shaking his head, so.

Speaker A:

And young Charlie says, vernon's selfish, man.

Speaker B:

Vernon.

Speaker B:

Well, young Charlie says, like, you pick these strangers over me.

Speaker A:

Which is sad, too.

Speaker B:

Anyways.

Speaker B:

So.

Speaker B:

And Jay is crying while he's looking down at the dead young Charlie.

Speaker B:

So we cut to a bar.

Speaker B:

The bar.

Speaker B:

The hotel bar from earlier here.

Speaker B:

And Jay is there shuffling his deck as Sam and Dean walk in.

Speaker B:

And.

Speaker B:

And once again, Jay's kind of dropping cards.

Speaker B:

It's kind of.

Speaker B:

It's kind of a messy shuffle.

Speaker B:

And Dean thanks him, and he's like, I killed my best friend yesterday, and you want to thank me?

Speaker B:

Oh, yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

It's gross.

Speaker A:

And he's just like, vernon doesn't like me anymore.

Speaker A:

He doesn't want to speak to me.

Speaker A:

And then Dean does the thing that.

Speaker A:

No, nobody wants to hear in these types of situations.

Speaker A:

Like, you did the right thing.

Speaker A:

Yeah, fuck off, man.

Speaker A:

And it's just like, what?

Speaker A:

I'm going to die older alone now.

Speaker A:

Thanks.

Speaker A:

Fuck you.

Speaker A:

And so, yeah, pretty much is what he should have said is fuck you, and walked out.

Speaker A:

But he does.

Speaker A:

And so.

Speaker B:

Cards behind.

Speaker B:

And it's really sad, this.

Speaker B:

That really fucking bummed me out.

Speaker B:

It really did.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And so, like, the bartender is just like, yeah.

Speaker A:

And he's like, no, throw them out and leaves.

Speaker A:

And so we don't know what happens to Jay.

Speaker A:

He just wanders off.

Speaker A:

And I really hope he goes.

Speaker A:

He goes and finds the dark forces and cabours in the night now that he knows the magic is real.

Speaker A:

And Dean's like, you know, I want a beer.

Speaker B:

Which is a beer too.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

And so Sam's like, got me a food walk.

Speaker B:

But we all know he's going to walk to meet Ruby, who's just hanging.

Speaker A:

Out in her charger in the alley.

Speaker A:

She's just there and she.

Speaker A:

And he tells her he's in.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Like, whatever it is, I don't know what it is.

Speaker B:

And he's like, I don't want to be doing this when I'm an old man.

Speaker A:

And that's where we end.

Speaker A:

And like, the whole inserted Sam and Ruby thing in here also, I mean, it's just jarring.

Speaker A:

Like, it never, like.

Speaker A:

And they.

Speaker A:

They tried to tie it into the episode with this part of like, I don't want to die an old man.

Speaker A:

But it really has nothing to do with the storyline or any of the lessons or anything of this episode.

Speaker A:

And it just annoys me.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I'm going to give you some.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

Overall, but I've got some more IMDb notes on this.

Speaker B:

Jay, obviously was the most important one, so that's why we focus on those.

Speaker B:

But let's talk.

Speaker B:

Jeb is played by Luke Kim Camilleri.

Speaker B:

He played Gustav in A Series of Unfortunate Events, the new series Dionysus in the Percy Jackson movie series.

Speaker B:

And he was in two episodes as Bic Pickwick of the Magicians, which I also find funny.

Speaker B:

That's okay.

Speaker A:

Yes.

Speaker B:

Then Vernon was played by Richard Lippertini, who was the voice of Dijon in DuckTales.

Speaker A:

Nice.

Speaker B:

That's your fun fact for the day.

Speaker B:

He was in a bunch of TV shows, too.

Speaker B:

And then Charlie was played by John Rubenstein.

Speaker B:

He's in.

Speaker B:

He plays older Jess Oppenheimer in Being the Ricardos.

Speaker B:

He's in the TV show Claus and a bunch of episodes.

Speaker A:

He was an angel, right?

Speaker B:

He was in an episode of Angel.

Speaker B:

Yeah, he was Linwood Murrow in Angel.

Speaker B:

He was Daniel Webster in an episode of the new adventures.

Speaker A:

And also Daniel Webster when he went to court with Satan.

Speaker A:

Yes, nobody wants to go to court with Satan.

Speaker B:

He was in a lot of TV shows.

Speaker B:

He was in one of the trilogies of Atlas Shrugged that came out a few years ago.

Speaker B:

And then young Charlie was played by Michael Weston, who was one of a bigger character in Garden State.

Speaker B:

A guy named.

Speaker B:

The character named Kenny on Regular character.

Speaker B:

Regular character on Law and svu.

Speaker B:

Yes, yes, he has.

Speaker A:

Yeah, yeah, I know.

Speaker A:

He was Rollins's half brother.

Speaker A:

And then he died of what everyone thought was a heroin overdose, but it turned out to be a police conspiracy.

Speaker B:

Ooh.

Speaker B:

Funny enough as another, like, ironic role, not something I'm personally familiar with, is that he did play Houdini in a miniseries called Houdini and Doyle.

Speaker B:

Another magic tie in.

Speaker B:

He was a regular character on the series House called Lucas Douglas.

Speaker B:

I love that series so much.

Speaker B:

He was only a couple episodes, but it was memorable one on Scrubs.

Speaker B:

He was Private Brian Dancer in Scrubs.

Speaker B:

And then he also was Danny.

Speaker B:

He was Danny in Coyote Ugly, the movie.

Speaker A:

He was.

Speaker A:

There's.

Speaker A:

This was a. I think I mentioned this to you this week.

Speaker A:

I was like, oh, you'll have fun with IMDb and this one.

Speaker A:

Like there is going to be.

Speaker A:

And I forgot I had a point and I forgot what it was.

Speaker A:

I don't know, IMDb.

Speaker A:

There's a lot of.

Speaker A:

A lot of great character actors in here, for sure.

Speaker B:

Absolutely.

Speaker A:

I knew I was going to say.

Speaker A:

And you know, as I also.

Speaker A:

I enjoy.

Speaker A:

I enjoy this episode, but there are parts of it that I thought were annoying.

Speaker A:

And also, I think it was a lost opportunity.

Speaker A:

Just you speaking of spiritualists, as we mentioned earlier, you know, Harry Houdini, like, spent a lot of his life trying to disprove spiritualists and, like, going to seances and trying to debunk them.

Speaker A:

And I think, like, that would have been really cool, like, to have somehow incorporated like that story into here.

Speaker A:

Somehow.

Speaker A:

Like, like super.

Speaker B:

Like the super.

Speaker B:

Like, hey, I'm a magician, but.

Speaker B:

But I don't fucking buy them by the magic hype.

Speaker B:

I'm doing this.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker B:

I'm an illusionist.

Speaker B:

I'm a skilled person.

Speaker B:

Like, that attitude about it.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Or like somewhere along the way, like, he learned magic was real and that's how this got passed down.

Speaker A:

I think the Bardon thing was such a throwaway and it was just like.

Speaker A:

Like, I didn't really.

Speaker A:

I didn't like the origin story of the Eve, you know, of Charlie's.

Speaker A:

Charlie's Grimoire and stuff.

Speaker A:

I thought that was stupid.

Speaker B:

Yeah, it wasn't much of one.

Speaker B:

They spent a lot of time.

Speaker B:

I actually, I very much like this episode.

Speaker B:

I actually like that.

Speaker B:

I very much enjoyed this episode.

Speaker B:

I thought it was, I don't use the word fun.

Speaker B:

It was entertaining.

Speaker B:

It had fun elements to it, especially with a douchebaggery.

Speaker B:

But I do see what you're saying.

Speaker B:

I think that that was a cop out.

Speaker B:

They spent so much time on buildup, so much time on these characters, and then just to have a throwaway fucking origin is fucking lame.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

And I think part of the reason.

Speaker A:

And I didn't see.

Speaker A:

I'm sure if you dug further into it, there would be some commentary on this.

Speaker A:

But I'm sure they wanted to give these amazing.

Speaker A:

Because they brought.

Speaker A:

It had such amazing guest actors that they wanted to give them, you know, things to chew on.

Speaker B:

Right.

Speaker B:

And actually like, you know, actual, like the role.

Speaker A:

Yeah, actual roles within a show where they're not obviously the main characters.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker A:

So we have these two main characters, the boys.

Speaker A:

And so they're trying to like, you know, we're trying to think about them, but we're bringing in well known.

Speaker A:

This always going to happen when you bring in well known guest actors like this.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

It's just because they need to give them a role that's worthy of them taking the role.

Speaker A:

Yeah, they want to, you know, hey, you should come onto our show and do this.

Speaker A:

I mean, I'm sure a lot of them are like friends with singer Kripke at some point because they've been on everything in Hollywood.

Speaker B:

It's everything.

Speaker B:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

Which is why you'll see a lot of these directors and actors kind of jumping from show to show.

Speaker A:

Much like on this show that we're not talking about was this is a show about Supernatural, but our flag means death.

Speaker A:

They are bringing in.

Speaker B:

I watched the first episode.

Speaker A:

Yeah.

Speaker A:

They're bringing in a lot of the same, like character actors that we're seeing in like what we do in the shadows and.

Speaker A:

But that's also tends to be.

Speaker A:

They're the character actors right now.

Speaker A:

Right.

Speaker B:

They're the comedic character actors.

Speaker B:

That's who you call.

Speaker B:

Yeah, yeah.

Speaker A:

So anyways, yeah, I said I enjoyed this episode.

Speaker A:

I think like, you're right, entertaining is the right word for it.

Speaker A:

I love, I also just love, you know, I love old magic.

Speaker A:

I, you know, not surprisingly, I just don't like perverted magicians.

Speaker A:

And you know, it's also like as an industry, talk about a toxic industry.

Speaker A:

Like that is pretty much like that poor, like, assistance girl.

Speaker A:

Like, there is a reason why there was only one female character like, in this besides the bartender, and she was an assistant.

Speaker A:

Because y', all, y' all were good at that.

Speaker A:

Y' all are getting better.

Speaker A:

I saw some, like, I did get to see some cool, like, women magicians as I was looking through this.

Speaker A:

Like, there is, like, some really neat ones.

Speaker A:

And so I was like, huh, maybe I'll go look into those.

Speaker A:

Like this.

Speaker A:

This bitches seem cool.

Speaker A:

But anyway, speaking of bitches, I think it's time to go.

Speaker A:

All right.

Speaker A:

Cheers.

Speaker A:

Jerk.

Speaker B:

Cheers.
